View 7 RepliesI need a way to allow another form to load after my program display's an introduction cut-scene without loading the form in the middle of the cut-scene. Sort of like a delay.
View 2 RepliesLet's say I want to put a 10 second delay on my splash screen before loading the next form or app.I use a timer, but would it be a simple integer value or several different lines of code?
View 3 RepliesI have an app where there's an edit form and it loads a bunch of stuff into comboboxes which takes half a minute to load the first time. Once it's loaded I keep the instance of the form and just hide it instead of disposing it until the app exits. What I would like to do is in the Sub Main of the app (there is no startup form) I would like to launch a new thread and load that form into memory, but I don't want the form to be displayed at that time, what's the best way to do this?

I want to pre-load a number of images from the web, so that I can display them in a form, and scroll through them without delay. It can be a large number, but i only need to pre-load perhaps 20, and then remove/add in advance, as I scroll through. The images will typically be .GIF or .PNG, of quite small size, <50kb. The link for any single image will look something like this: [URL]..and I will keep a list of all the links I need to access.
What "type" shall I use to store these images? And how do I make web requests to put the data into this type? I guess it will be more convenient to keep this as in-code list of some memorystream type (?) instead of saving them to disk and having to deal with file names and stuff..? Also, what type of control shall I use to display such images? Do I use a PictureBox?And if a memorystream is indeed the best choice, how do I make this show in the picturebox?

I know that time delays have been covered before around almost everywhere. however a method that forgoes forcing the GUI to become temporarily non-responsive, is all but a myth, or at least to my findings. i have the need for a GUI program to delay before the next command, however using the current method, detailed following, it causes the desired effect however it dose make it much less polished as when you click anything else on the GUI it goes un-responsive for the directed time. [Code] make a sub called say Tdelay( milseconds as integer) and have it run a loop as many times as the milseconds variable indicates and each time making the thread delay for 1 milsecond and then update the GUI/form in some way, then re-loop.
View 7 RepliesI want a rich text box to display public variables like (pizza toppings links etc that have been selected in other forms) these variables have declare in a module. But I want the rich text box to display these variables as soon as the screen loads ( a on form load event) if you know what I mean.

View 9 RepliesIn trying to test some graphic features, I am trying to get them to display on load so button doesn't have to be pressed. I used the following code as suggested from forum. Message boxes run but ellipses aren't displayed until button is clicked which is what I am trying to avoid!
Private Sub Form3_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Button1.PerformClick()
Button1_Click(Nothing, Nothing)

The insertion part of the form works great. But my problem is in the form load part......If i leave a field blank(Null),then perform Save operation,close the form after successful insertion and then reopen the form,then it retains the previous values during the form load......This is only in case where i leave a field blank in the previous data entry in the database.......But if i enter values in all fields then form load is working great.
I am making a simulation of windows loading,Ive made it show the startup screen (startup.vb) and ive got the login screen (login.vb), how can I make it stay at the startup screen for a few seconds before using the startup.show() command.( if I can use that command?)
View 4 RepliesI've created a "Loading" borderless Form that's displayed when loading records etc. I'm using the following to keep the loading dialog centered within it's parent.Works great except fo when the form is minimised estore- The loading form appears instantly while the parent (Owner) maximises with the usual VistaWindows 7 animated maximise.
What would be the best method to prevent the loading form appearing before the main form?

I'm working on a Windows Forms application with a module, and I want to put a time delay in the module rather than a form.
View 3 RepliesI have created a game similar to plants vs. zombies or simply called a tower defense game. I have already completed it. but I have 1 big problem. and this is the game is very very lag / high delay. structures , explosions , enemies , projectiles are created using picturebox and declared it using an array and now to my question. Is there any way to minimize or to remove the lag or delay of the form?
View 3 RepliesIm trying make my application display my splash screen for 5secs before loading my main form. I have read lots of threads on this and they all seem to point to the following:Add the following code to the New() sub of the splashscreen.
My.Application.MinimumSplashScreenDisplayTime = 5000
I have also seen a suggestion to add the following code to the OnInitilalize event in the ApplicationsEvents file.
Me.MinimumSplashScreenDisplayTime = 5000
I've have tried both ways, and although it successfully makes my splashscreen wait 5 seconds before closing, it doesnt prevent the Main form from waiting for the splashscreen to close before loading. The mainform simply loads over the top of the splashscreen.This thread is exactly what im after but i cant seem to get mine to work.

I have application framework enabled. I have my startup form set to my main form, and i have set my splashscreen in the application tab of my project properties. Im using VS2008.I also noticed that when i clicked on the "View Application Events" button in the application tab of my project properties, the file was blank. I have seen that some other people have had problems with this. I just cut and paste the following code into my ApplicationEvents file. Potentially an issue??? Any reason why the code was not auto-generated to begin with?
Namespace My
' The following events are availble for MyApplication:
'
' Startup: Raised when the application starts, before the startup form is created.

How can I load a form and allow it to run it's code in the form load but keep it not visible. I want it to do what it needs to but but not display.
View 3 RepliesOk a newbie question that I just can't find the answer to:I created a simple form with 3 textboxes and have a problem using a barcode scanner to read data in to the form. The scan gives me the correct data, but it appears in VB2008 express the CRLF get absorbed and doesn't go to the next text box. In fact hitting the enter doesn't do it either, while the tab key does.
If I scan to notepad, wordpad, etc. the CRLF causes the cursor to drop to the next line, so I know the barcode scanner is programmed correctly. What should I be looking for to have the scanned data cause focus to go tot the next textbox?
Uploaded with ImageShack.us how can i move the highlighted listbox on the right side to the empty row(the one that is highlighted on the left side) using a button.

Currently on an internship from my CS degree, we have some down time and I'd like to spend it working through a series of problems (although none too large) that would advance my programming skills and allow me to dip my toes in a large breadth of different topics and areas. Unfortunately, everything I do must be done in vb.net on .net 2.0, without downloading any particular libraries.I've already worked through many of the "code-golf" tagged problems on here and the programming praxis problems posed by dailywtf.
View 7 RepliesI have written a VB.net 2010 Powerpoint addin that needs to be able to advance the slide via a button on it's main form when running the presentation. The functionality I require is exactly as if you press the space bar while focus is on the slide show window.
I have tried-PowerPointApp.ActivePresentation.SlideShowWindow.View.Next
But this does not work in excatly the same way, namely when working with several animation sequences on the same slide.I am looking into using the API - FindWindow & SendMessage but I do not fully understand the steps to get this to work, or even if it can. Or is there another way?
I am using Visual Studio 2010 RC with Powerpoint 2010 Developer Beta.
I have a Datagrid with some records, this datagrid has a scroll bar. Also I have a Binding Navigator, with its buttons back, forward, insert, delete,The problem is that I dont know why I have disabled. I have looked into the Binding Navigator to enabled them, but I the property is enabled.In order to appear some records in the Datagrid, I want to appear one record and change to the following/back record with the following/back button of the Binding Navigator.

View 3 RepliesI'm working on a project where I need a timeline similar to what you would see within a video editing program. Picture of my timeline - [URL]
So far, I've designed the timeline using nested pictureboxes. The main area of the timeline is a picturebox, and each track (marker and test) are children pictureboxes contained within the first. The marker dots are custom controls that are children of the marker picturebox. The idea will be for the slider to control zooming of the information in the timeline and the scrollbar to control panning of the timeline. Live data will be added to the timeline. This live data will include the marker dots and painting on the bitmap contained within the test picturebox.
I've got portions of the timeline functioning, but I'm stuck on how I should go about panning and zooming. I would like the timeline to update every second and advance the blue bar by 1 pixel every second. The problem starts when the blue line reaches the end of the timeline. Once the blue line reaches the end, I want everything on the timeline to start scrolling off the left side. What would be the best way to go about doing this and still be able to maintain the data written to the timeline? This could be a lot of data if the program runs for several hours.

I am writing an industrial control front-end that has some "fancy" graphics to indicate the states of some machinery. For example, I indicate that some heaters are on by showing red wavy arrows emanating out from a picture of a heater. I accomplished this by creating a class that inherits from PictureBox and using a timer to advance the images:
Public Class AnimatedPictureBox
Inherits PictureBox
Private WithEvents Timer As New Timers.Timer
Public Property Interval As Double
[Code] .....
My question is "Is this an alright way to go about this or is there some obvious better way?" I'm not too good at programming and am worried that having several of these objects with their embedded timers taxing the CPU. I went with animated GIFs for some other animation stuff, but here, I wanted to be able to handle image formats that can handle a larger palette than a GIF (if that makes sense). In other words, when I tried to save some of my animations as GIFs, the image quality took an unacceptable hit.
