Displaying List Of Objects As Single Column In A Bound Gridview (Winforms)?
Mar 15, 2010I have a gridview that is bound to a datasource on a Windows Form (VB.NET). The grid displays a list of "certifications", and each "certification" can be associated with many languages. So in the grid, I'd like to display "languages" as a column, and display a comma delimited list of the language names for each "certification".
In the "certification" class, one of the properties is a list of "language" objects, and each "language" has an ID (guid), name (string), and value (integer).
So in the datasource, I have the list of "languages", but I can't figure out how to display them in a column on the grid. The gridview won't let me add the language list property as a column.
So is the ONLY way to add a new property on the "certification" class, which returns a string that contains the comma delimited list, and show THAT on the grid? Or is there a way to display that list of "languages"?

Jul 12, 2009I have started a new blank project for VB 2007. I have taken the old code (VB 2003) and added it to the project.The line marked below worked on the old VB, now it does not. I get the following error:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Troubleshooting tips:
Use the "new" keyword to create an object instance.
Check to determine if the object is null before calling the method.I have tried several forms of using the "New" keyword and still get the error.

MenuStrip.Items.Remove - Add Item To Dropdown Menu Upon Creation
Feb 8, 2011I have my program set up to read the contents of a Directory, and then populate a drop down menu with the names of the files in the directory. (I am using the MenuStrip). Inside my program, it is also set up to create a new file in that directory, and I wish to add this item to the dropdown menu upon creation. The list is entirely created and populated from the code, and the contents of the list depend entirely on what's in the directory.
I have tried using MenuStrip.Items.Remove(menuItem1). Now, when this command gets executed, it does remove the top level Menu, however when I go to repopulate the menu, I end up with duplicates of my files listed in the drop down. I am stuck with how to clear these out as well?
Menu Strip Has Disappeared But The Menu Items Are Still Showing In Properties List?
Oct 6, 2011I have combed these forums and the 'net and can't find an answer to my specific problem. My menu strip disappeared (after deleting a small secondary form within my project). I therefore created a new strip and while recreating the menu items realized that the original menu items are still present, showing in my properties list. I have checked my design file as well and the original menu strip is definitely gone but the original menu items are there. I don't have many items so I would have no problem just deleting the original ones but I can't see them to delete them! I have checked and they are all set to visible. I have also moved everything on my form to see if it is behind anything else.

Aug 29, 2011I have taken a project to write an adware (not spyware! this is ethical and legal) program for a company.Basically what this company wants is to give away free stuff in exchange for people downloading the adware which displays ads when a user browses the internet.What I have to do is create the program that will open a new instance of IE every time a certain URL is displayed in the address bar.So if the user goes to [URL] then a certain ad will pop up (this software is connected to the internet so it knows what to pop up)Should I be using VB.NET for this program?

Sep 1, 2011I have a gallery which holds a large number of thumbnail images and I want to show 6 at a time.
I have this working using the code below, but I can not get the images to display as 2 rows of 3 - it shows as 6 rows of 1.
I can get the desired result by using a datalist but that stops the pageindex function from working.
I'm sure there's an easy solution but I can't figure it out.

ASP.Net Gridview Border Not Displaying In IE?
Nov 21, 2011I am working on an ASP.Net website and have a GridView displaying some data,in the OnRowDataBound event I am setting the border of the row for certain rows based on some criteria. This all worked fine when I was testing my pages locally, however when I put these pages within our master page (this is part of a company intranet site) the row borders disappear in IE yet display fine in firefox.
Is there anything that could be causing this? So far there is no CSS style applied that I know of as I set the border inside the event handler like so:

VS 2005 Displaying A List Inputted Words And List All The Associated Line Numbers?
Aug 1, 2009I currently have a list of words in a text file sorted in to alphabetical order and put into lower case, but I would like to be able to also display the line numbers on which these words are associated with.. but only one instance of.
For example,
"This is a random text
file that I
have just made
up this second"

And a Gridview containing (album name, artist name, no.of tracks, year, etc), What I want to achieve is: when an option(artist1) in DDL1 is chosen, then the albums related to DDL1 needs to display in DDL2 and also it must update the appropriate values in the gridview (artistname, albums(album name -no of songs, year)etc... based on the selection made (language: Asp.net(VB)-Sql server ).

Asp.net - Displaying Different Pictures In GridView Depending On The Data?
Dec 14, 2011I am creating a WEB report in Visual Studio 2010 in VB.net. The report needs to display a table (please see the attached image). I am thinking to use the GridView component which i think it's the most appropriate one to choose. In the database there are students' data and marks. I can't alter the database in any way and i have to use Visual Studio 2010 with VB.
What i need to do is to show 3 different pictures(for example) depend on the student's marks. I got the pictures file in PNGs but this can be flexible.For example, over 70 will be a Smile picture. over 60 will be the Normal face. and over 40 will be the picture with no smile. I bit difficult for me to explain but i hope u get my point.
So pls advice me how can i achieve this. I am quite a newbie to this pls put as detail as you can. if there is a choice between client and server side script, i prefer server side script. Data source can be flexible (sql, or linq or anything).

For an example, let's say I'm just listing people, with a child list of their favorite foods.

I'm trying to do this with a gridview control. I'm not sure that's what I should be using. But what I'm having trouble with, is getting the gridview to only list items with a unique USERID. And then using that unique USERID to list each item individually below.
Is there any kind of "automated" way of pulling this off using standard .net controls without going in and manually piecing it all together from the codebehind?

The first is showing the exams that he has passed and the other shows the exams he has yet to complete or fail. I can not get any data to display in my list box. Apr 28, 2009I am using a ListView control to display Pictures along with description and caption. I used to save the full path of the image in the url field, so when I display them in the ListView I don't need to edit anything. Now I am using something like:

How can I edit my ListView to make it show the images?
I used to do the same to GridView when in GridViews RowDataBound event I manipulate the contents like:

Jan 14, 2009So we are just starting to learn about list boxes in vb1. In this program the user enters up to 10 scores and after each input (decInputScore) the total score so far has to be calculates (decTotalScore) and then of course when all the scores are entered, at the bottom the final score it calculated. (decFinalScore) (decFinal). I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing wrong, I can't get it to calculate the correct total scores after each input, and I'm getting 0 as the final score. Here is a visual of what the form should look like: the black square is (btnEnterScore) a pop up message box comes up in which the user enters each value when clicked.[code]

This should, when you are typing in a function, display the "Get or sets the Patient Code" then below that, it should display a list of bulleted items with "Validation:" as the header? Maybe I am doing it wrong, but it doesn't seem to be working correctly.
