Displaying A Certain Amount Of Characters ("*") Depending On A Integer Variable?
Dec 6, 2010
I am quite new to visual basic & programming, so please bare with me. After spending at least 64 hours designing and coding a cinema booking, i have stumbled across a little problem. The task i am having trouble with is creating a graph, using only labels and/or textboxes, to display a number of stars depending on how many seats have been booked in a screen. Here is an example of sample design i have been given:
I have a mesurement that could be any random value, just for fun well make that 2440mm i need to divde that by the industry standard of 610mm which comes out at 2440 / 610 = 4
Programicaly written NEWVAL = YVAL / STDVAL
NEWVAL (4) gives me refrence to how many instances I want to append a new line in a txt file I know that I want the first line to say 0,0,0 and the second line to say 0,610,0 the third 0,1220,0 the fourth 0,1830,0 and the last 0,2440,0, though this is easily achived with addition how can I automate vb.net to produce a new write line for each each instace of 610 if the YVAL is user defind.Put in simple terms half would be missing if the YVAL variable is double in length at 4880mm?
I have to create an app that computes the amount income tax that a person has to pay, depending on salary. Income tax should be calculated for each portion of income in each range. Here are the following income ranges and taxe rates:
Not over $7825=10%income tax $7825-31852 = 15%income tax $31851-77100 = 25%income tax
I am creating a WEB report in Visual Studio 2010 in VB.net. The report needs to display a table (please see the attached image). I am thinking to use the GridView component which i think it's the most appropriate one to choose. In the database there are students' data and marks. I can't alter the database in any way and i have to use Visual Studio 2010 with VB.
What i need to do is to show 3 different pictures(for example) depend on the student's marks. I got the pictures file in PNGs but this can be flexible. For example, over 70 will be a Smile picture. over 60 will be the Normal face. and over 40 will be the picture with no smile. I bit difficult for me to explain but i hope u get my point.
So pls advice me how can i achieve this. I am quite a newbie to this pls put as detail as you can. if there is a choice between client and server side script, i prefer server side script. Data source can be flexible (sql, or linq or anything).
if i pressed the RadioButton .. ENGLISH.. only Teacher's which teach English will be displayed in the listbox and so on. there is in access table called TEACHER which has all these information. i used the following code for displaying the TEACHERS' name in listbox and it worked pefectly but what i want is displaying according to radiobutton checked.
Sub conxn1() Connection.Open() Dim da As New OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter("select * from Teacher ", Connection)
I have a program where a user enters a list of numbers in the form of a string. This list of numbers is always a multiple of 8.So the list can contain 8, 16, 32, 40, 48, etc. numbers.
I need to split that string into every 8 characters. For example, say the user entered "1234123445674567"
How can I split it into a string array where (0) is "12341234" and (1) is "45674567"
Note: The size of the array has to be equal to the length of the string divided by 8.
Like this:
Dim stringArray(txtInput.Text.Length/8) as String Edit: I know I could do this by making a loop that counts 8 numbers and splits it into an array but that would be lengthy and take a few variables and I know there's a more efficient way to do it. I just don't know the syntax.
I have created a client for the popular twitter social network. I am now wanting to add more features to the client, and one of those being a label displaying how many characters are left in the post (as the max is 140). This is what I want to do: (Message Box Amount of Characters Typed) MINUS (140) = NUMBER(Display answer as label).
I am having a problem with a program I coded in VB for class. It is a program that asks for the user to enter an amount of pennies then it displays the amount of dollars, quarters, nickels, and pennies. The problem I am having is that its not displaying the proper amounts in the text boxes, for example:
141 pennies = 1 Dollar 1 Quarter 1 Dime 1 Penny
So when I enter that, or any other number like 350 for the pennies, it gives inaccurate data, I am assuming that it is something I did wrong with the Modulus operator.
Public Class frmMain Private Sub frmMain_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load End Sub Private Sub btnExit_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnExit.Click Me.Close() [Code] .....
I am trying to do a somewhat different pw generator. The user can specify the amount of characters the password will be and whether to randomize between the alphabets A-Z, numbers 1-10, and maybe a hand full of symbols or so, and a combination of all three options. Also the user can use the "re-generate" button if he/she does not like the current password. I'm fairly new to VB, and would just like a push in the right direction to get started.
I have a list box on the form which functions as a copy/paste. When you copy something, it is automatically added to the list box as a "clipboard helper". Here is the problem, however: if the text is more than 1 line, the list box does not show all the text.It ends up looking messy. So getting back to my question, is it possible to make the list box item height for an item depending on the amount of lines that item contains? This is a one line sentence in the list box and should take up one line. This is a multi line sentence in the list box and should take up two lines for item height.
I need to induce a variable amount of lag in vb.net. System should be noticeably slower. I can raise the CPU usage of the program with infinite loops and some variable creation/assignments, but how can I actually cause lag? I'd like to have an "InvokeLag" sub which will perform an action to slow down the computer, the faster the function is called the faster it lags. The function should be as mundane as possible, not modifying anything or doing anything to cause damage other than simple lag.
How can you trace the amount of memory used by each variable, process in a program? I tried CLR 2.0 but am not sure how to read the results. Are there any really good articles on CLR 2.0 that describes what I am looking for?
I am thinking is to have a question, then between 2-4 answers, and depending on the answer a point value gets assigned to a variable, but then when that one question is answered you can click a button that moves to a next page type of thing with a new question on it. I think I could probably figure most of this out but when it comes to switching to a different question I am not sure how I would do that.
dim a as integer = 5 dim b as integer = 1 dim c as integer = 10
What is the most efficient method of determining which variable has the largest value while using the least amount of code? I know this can be done with if statements, but there must be a more elegant way to do it.
I'm trying to work out a program where you can set up a variable amount of timers (like egg timers). Each timer works independently of the other (you can stop a timer, reset another, and so on, and the rest are not effected).I thought of using a single timer and then creating a custom egg timer class to handle the countdown, store the current time, etc, and use a collection of these classes inside a timer event (at the tick, do a for each to reduce the countdown on the classes by some milliseconds). Then I got to thinking: all of these egg timer classes in the collection with the for each loop may cause some accuracy loss (say, I add 50 egg timers).
Does anyone think the accuracy loss for updating all of the egg timers would be too adverse? Should I try running them on separate threads (have not thought about how yet), or will that make much difference?
I am currently working on a project that will read HTML pages and store some information. I am doing this by loading the HTML page into a webbrowser, then viewing the source of the page by using:
I am using VB Express 2010. All of a sudden the characters = + < > % have become invisible in my code editor. I didnt change any font or language settings. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but the problem is still there.
OK, after trying to get this working for a couple of days now I decided that I would turn to the experts here. I am trying to create a nested loop with a variable amount of nests. Let me elaborate. I have a program that first asks for the minimum and maximum amount of loops, I currently have a SELECT CASE statement that addresses each level of nesting individually.
Dim cMin As Integer = InputBox("Min") Dim cMax As Integer = InputBox("Max") Dim c1, c2, c3 As Integer
Im trying to add a variable that shows amount of tax deducted in a list box among other output variables. If anyone can help I would like to know how to code the lstResults.Items.Add("-$ " & Tax & " Tax") bracket to display the amount of tax deducted from the total salary wages.
Public Class Form1 'Decalirs Variables Dim Hours As Integer Dim Overtime As Integer
I have made an application in VB 6.0.In this application ,i am connecting one controller through serial port to laptop.I have used MSOMM control for this purpose.Controller is sending data as a string .On VB 6.0 applicaton in laptop ,i am getting data displayed in one text boxall in ASCII code/characters.Total chatacters in string are 61.My problem is this that all 61 characters are comming in one text box.I want thateach character should come in seperate text box so that i can be able to display them individually,i.e. 61 characters and 61 text boxes.
for example if a person types in multiple characters that represent a certain image in the input box for example if i type "tom" in the input box each letter represents a different image. Can i display those 3 images on the form somewhere? this is what i have so far...
Dim character As String = InputBox("Please enter a word")
I know that much but im not sure how i can connect the letter with a image for example
PictureBox1.Image = My.Resources.pic02
i want t to = my.resources.pic02 and i want it to display on the picturebox1.image
Is that possible to save values from a listbox to mysql database? I guess yes. I have a list of values in a listbox obtained from splitting a file. The strings are like numbers but they are of type string. What I need is to get those values in the database in the integer type. How can I proceed?
I have several text boxes named txtWidth1, txtWidth2, .....thru txtWidth12
I am trying to make some of the text boxes visible depending on the value of a variable "y". I thought I could do something like below, but I know line 9 is definately wrong. Private Sub txtQty_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles txtQty.TextChanged Dim x As Integer
I just need some syntax that will tell if a variable is an integer or not. I want to do something like this (i know this isn't correct syntax but this is the general idea):[code]
