Asp.net - List Box Selected Index - Various Items Inserted Depending On The User Selection

Jan 18, 2012

I seem to be having issues with the selected index on a list box.

The list box is having various items inserted depending on the user selection. An example would be:

LiIndex = ListBox1.Items.Count
ListBox1.Items.Insert(LiIndex, "Item1")

LiIndex = ListBox1.Items.Count
ListBox1.Items.Insert(LiIndex, "AND")

[CODE]......................

This all work and displays without a problem. The issue I have is if I select the second of the two AND's. If I click the second "AND" in the list and then a button to fire a method, the selected index is always the index of the first "AND". Dim listIndex as integer = ListBox1.SelectedIndex

I can't work out why, the listbox itself will always show the second one as selected, but the action will happen against the first one.

VS 2010 Checking Items In A List?

Mar 13, 2012

I have a checkedlistbox with numbers in it and I'm trying to load a list of numbers from a database and check all of them (they should all be in the checkedlistbox).

I was trying to do this by loading all the values into a separate listbox using my own subroutine (I know that part works) and then finding the corresponding item on the checkedlistbox, like this:

Dim ItemName As String
For Each item In ListBox1.Items
ItemName = ListBox1.GetItemText(item)
If CheckedListBox1.Items.Contains(ItemName) = true Then
CheckedListBox1.SetItemChecked(CheckedListBox1.Items.IndexOf(ItemName), True)
End If
Next
End If

But this doesn't work: It never returns a match, even when the item is definitely on the list. How do I make this work?

Checking Multiple Items In A Check List Box By Variable Values?

I've never really used the Check List Box in the past, however, for the recent program I am developing, I am using this control rather than individual check boxes scattered across the form.Anyway, I want to be able to program through code which items get checked in this checked list box. Specifically, I have a variable that contains the text of each check box that I want checked. With a normal check box, I can simply say:

Selecting Items From A List And Displaying Related Info

Jun 11, 2011

I have a table being imported into my VB application that has 3 columns. I have written code to import the table, and have written code to display on the first column (country) in a list view.

What I want to do now is have the user select / highlight an item in the list view, and have the third column (currency) related to that selected country appear in a text box when a button is clicked.

Here's the code I've written that successfully imports the data and displays the first column:

Private Sub frmCountry_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
Dim dataCountry As New DataTable()

[Code]...

Should I perhaps use something other than a list view?

Asp.net - Displaying Different Pictures In GridView Depending On The Data?

Dec 14, 2011

I am creating a WEB report in Visual Studio 2010 in VB.net. The report needs to display a table (please see the attached image). I am thinking to use the GridView component which i think it's the most appropriate one to choose. In the database there are students' data and marks. I can't alter the database in any way and i have to use Visual Studio 2010 with VB.

What i need to do is to show 3 different pictures(for example) depend on the student's marks. I got the pictures file in PNGs but this can be flexible. For example, over 70 will be a Smile picture. over 60 will be the Normal face. and over 40 will be the picture with no smile. I bit difficult for me to explain but i hope u get my point.

So pls advice me how can i achieve this. I am quite a newbie to this pls put as detail as you can. if there is a choice between client and server side script, i prefer server side script. Data source can be flexible (sql, or linq or anything).

JavaScript - RadioButton List OnClientClick Property

Apr 27, 2010

I've noticed there is no OnClientClick() property for the radiobuttonlist in the ASP.NET control set. Is this a purposeful omissiong on Microsoft's part? Anyway, I've tried to add OnClick to the radio button list like so:

For Each li As ListItem In rblSearch.Items
li.Attributes.Add("OnClick", "javascript:alert('jon');")
Next

But alas, it doesn't work. I've even checked the source in firebug, and there is no javascript shown in the radiobuttonlist. I'm using ASP.NET control adapters so don't know if that has anything to do with it. (I wish asp.net/javascript would just work out the box!!!)

VS 2008 Displaying A List Within A List In A DataRepeater?

Feb 2, 2010

Firstly i apologise for another topic on a subject i have created already but this is a slightly different question and not related to LINQ at all despite the fact the code uses LINQ (the linq works fine and creates a List(Of Test) where each 'Test' contains a List(Of TestList) This data could be anything i guess and could come from an array or a database rather than xml literals.Ok, essentially i have a list which contains a list and i wish to display all the properties (List and list within this List) onto a DataRepeater Control. I have developed a testbed to get this working so i can implement it into my main application. Firstly I'll show the current code and how to construct the form and after that i will explain what i have tried and what i have had happen from these trials over the last week.

VS 2010 - List(Of ).Clear() - Load Several Lists Of Codes From A Database Depending On The Import Selected By The User

Dec 29, 2011

When .Clear() is invoked, is the memory freed up that was allocated when all of the items were added? I need to load several lists of codes from a database depending on the import selected by the user. Each list of codes will be a List(Of String). My idea is that I will load only small strings into a List(Of String) along with a List(Of <class>) for the data I will be validating and manipulating. When I am done, I want all of the data from the Lists to be purged from memory. Will .Clear() take care of that or does the memory still remain allocated and have to be dumped by the OS once memory gets full? (And, incidentally, what causes the OS to decide which memory blocks to dump? FIFO concept?)

There are so many lists, I'm not sure if I just want them sitting in memory or not. Granted, the lists will just consist of a single string value for each code pulled from the database. So there won't be a ton of data, so maybe I could just load all the validation lists at the beginning of runtime and only worry about purging the data List since it will contain between 35-50 "fields" per record and there will be a couple thousand records each import that is run. I don't want my program to actually cause a hit in performance in the long run. I ultimately don't see a problem because I won't be running millions or even hundreds of thousands of records at once, but I just want to be sure.

VS 2010 - Adding Items And Checking Contents In ListBox

Sep 25, 2011

So I'm using the following code to add items into my list box, and I'm trying to get it to check the contents of the list box as well.

Private Sub Button3_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button3.Click
If ListBox2.Items.Contains(TextBox3.Text) Then
MsgBox("Character already exists!")
Else
ListBox2.Items.Add(New LBnfo With {.v4 = RadioButton6.Checked,
[Code] .....

But when I try to compare the two:
If ListBox2.Items.Contains(TextBox3.Text) Then
MsgBox("Character already exists!")
Else

It doesn't show the message box even when the character actually does exist. I believe the problem is that I never do add the item really. I just use, "Return Me.character," which is assigned the value of Textbox3. So I just need to figure out how to check Me.character before returning it.

VS 2010 Checking Listbox Items For Duplicate Before Adding New Item?

Sep 8, 2011

How would one go about checking a listbox's items for duplicates? Basically I need to write a program that displays the teams from a text file provided by my instructor, in alphabetical order. I can do that, but what I can't figure out is how to prevent the For loop from adding a duplicate team. What I'm envisioning is:

If teams(i).name is not in lstTeams.Items Then
lstTeams.Items.Add(teams(i).name)
End If

I have a program that compiles and works so far, except for the above problem and my alphabetical order (which I can probably figure out on my own:

Public Class danbrockteams
Structure team
Dim name As String

[Code]....

This works except that my listbox is filled with the team every player is in rather than just listing all possible teams. Not exactly looking for someone to just give me the answer, as I understand things best when figuring them out on my own, so I suppose a hint is what I'm really after.
