Mar 16, 2009I'm having trouble getting started with this application I need to do. Here are the details:
Its an application to calculate student grades for a group project. Create a text file to store names of 5 students, line by line. In a separate file enter peer evaluations from 0 to 1.0. Enter these numbers for evaluations:
1.0, 0.8, 0.9, 1.0, 0.6
0.2, 0.9, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7
0.5, 1.0, 1.0, 1.5, 0.9
0.9, 0.9, 0.9, 1.0, 1.0
1.0, 0.9, 1.0, 0.8, 0.9
This means that student 1 gave 1.0 evaluation for himself , 0.8 for student 2, 0.9 for student 3 etc.Student 2 gave 0.2 for student 1, 0.9 for him- herself, 0.5 for student 3 etc. Read these into a 2-dimensional array. If any of the values is greater than 1.0, set them to 1.0. The program should calculate the average evaluation for a student. While doing so, the program should ignore evaluations that student gave to him-herself. Populate a list box with student names when the form loads. The user should enter a project grade (same for everyone) in a textbox. Then the user can select a student from a list and click �Calculate� button. The program should display the project grade for that student by multiplying average evaluation by the grade for the whole group (project grade).
Way To Keep These Arrays As Small As Needed While Being Able To Add New Elements On Fly
Apr 30, 2009I have 3 arrays setup for use in my program. The first array has item level detail and will have a known number of elements. The second array has more of a table level detail and will have an unknown number of elements that will need to grow as the user enters data The 3rd array will also be of unknown size but matching the second array and will be used for indexing purposes at runtime.The question is what would be the best and hopefully fastest way to keep these arrays as small as needed while being able to add new elements on the fly without rebuilding the entire array. Ideally I would like the code to run as fast as possible in as little memory as possible.

Dec 25, 2011I need help to form a code for a small arrays manipulation. The input data are known: they are two integers "N" and "s". An integer "N" is always divisible by 4.I need to create an array of "N" members, by repeating (N/4 times) this sub-array: 1,2,2,1 (always is the same). In the picture, this is shown in blue. Then I need to add the same array to the existing array, but shifted for "s" places (red array). The result is "yes" if each sum in new columns is always the same (3). Otherwise the result is "no." note there is no need to draw or display something (DGV, table ...). The required result is only "yes" or "no".

I want to get a value from the "RoomName" array based on a criteria of "RoomType" array. For example, I want to get a "RoomName" with "RoomType = 2", so the algorithm should randomize the index of the array that the "RoomType" is "2", and get a single value range from index "1-3" only.

Jul 10, 2011This is a school project, supposed to be a beggining VB.Net class. I'm having difficulty with one section, sorting the array is OK but I need to only return a 3 of it. I had it working when I was selecting single files but when I went to selecting multiple files at once the formula stopped working for me. I'm retuning the array just fine but the select a 3rd seems to just pass by without being acted upon. I've been working on this a long time and don't know where to look for an answer. Jan 13, 2012I'm basically trying to do a small report card project. I only need to pull 5 Students with each student having 5 Test Scores a piece. The full Code of what I have for the submit button is below. I have actually 3 questions.
1. I always seem to have trouble with them unless I initialize them when I dim them. Is there a better way than below
2. The below code works really well for Student 1 and all 5 test scores. Rather than do that code 5 times though, what is the best way for me to basically state that IF dblStudent1(intMax) = 4 Then Change dblStudent1(intMax) to dblStudent2(intMax) etc.
3. Would this be better suited towards a multidimensional array ?

What I want to end up doing is have the program take the user's guess char and set the corresponding number in the array to true. I'm new to arrays and I have no clue how to begin doing this. this is how I am declaring my array. It would be ideal if the following definition would be possible:
Dim ArrayOfBuffers() as buffer(10000) as Byte
The byte arrays must be ordered sequentially because they have to be written to a file by efficient procedures destinationFile.Write(ArrayOfBuffer(3),1000,1000)
The number of buffers will change during program execution sometimes. Therefore it would be nice to be able to do a ReDim on the data structure when needed.

Jun 17, 2009I am trying to port a program I wrote with old VB 1 and I have many control arrays in the program, and it was so easy to do this in older versions of VB, now I am trying to find how to do this and all the answers I have found are a major productions, to replace something that was so easy to do? I would think that microsoft would make programming easer with each new incarnation. instead they are making it harder. doing away with the DATA and READ statement, now it is much harder to fill an array with a loop, now you have to enter each item in an array ONE by ONE. they did away with the ON statement, I had several ON statements, I had to make complex Select case constructs. to replace a simple one word statement?
To make an array of controls in OldVB all you had to do is Name a Second control the Same as the First, and a dialog pops up and ask if you want to make an array, you click Yes, and that's it, what could be easier than this?

Because if I were to declare a variable Dim accounts(2,2) As Integer all 1D arrays at each dimension have the same length. Is there any way to create an array so that this is not the case?
e.g The above code would create an array like this:

VS 2008 User Submitted Array - Swapping Arrays?

What is the best method to have the end user populate an array? I am doing this as a windows form. Have multiple text boxes that they have to fill out? Set the elements of the array to the text box values? And how to swap the contents at run time is something I am not sure of. Isn't there a Array Swap function or something?
