But the My.Computer.FileSystem.Drives collection does not contain the Network Drives mapped on my machine. I have about half-a-dozen of these, but none of them seem to show up in the Drives collection and thus are not visible to the other FileSystem functionality I need to use for file management.
how to make sure the Drives collection contains all my drives? I am running VS2010 Premium edition on Windows 7 64-bit on a 64-bit Dell machine.
Identify Connection Lost Between Socket Server And Socket Client?
May 21, 2011I wrote a Socket Client which will send the Socket Server some data and get some response from Server. This process will be running once in every 2 seconds.
Now what I need to know is How we can identify the connection lost between Server and Client?
I need this to be implemented in the Client side. If there is no connection then Client should automatically close the connection. Once the connection with the server is available in the next attempt it should connect automatically.

VS 2008 My.Computer.Network.Ping() Cannot See Network Under Windows 7
Nov 18, 2011I have a .NET 2.0 *.dll that calls My.Computer.Network.Ping(). The *.dll is then run out of an *.exe via AppDomain.CreateDomain() and Invoke(). The problem is that this works just fine under Windows XP but under Windows 7, I get an exception saying that no network connection is available. I tried the Ping() call out of a small console application under Windows 7 and it works just fine.

Mar 26, 2012I am writing some code as part of a framework for opening a file.The file is of custom type and should not be opened by more than one instance of my application. To stop multiple file opening I use a filestream to create a lock file and then keep said filestream open. This seems to work in preventing another instance of my application from opening the file ( as it will fail in recreating the lock stream in the files open code ) but if the file is on a network share and the network drops then the original application also can not access the file any more.The code to get the lock stream is as follows:

In this I create the lock stream the first time round and then if another application tries to create it, it throws an exception and stops them from getting any further. This is kind of how it needs to work, unfortunately as I said, if this is done across a network and then the network connection is dropped for some reason then I can not delete the lock stream as I get an IOException telling me a process cannot access the file as it is open in another process ( which shouldn't be happening I don't think).

Sep 28, 2011I have a function on my program that allows a user to load a listbox filled with words that are matched with words inside a databank. The databank is filled with 2 string arrays and file of .jpg Pictures. The Arrays attached to each word inside the listbox are approximately one page. Each page is two paragraphs of Text(string Array) and one Picture(20Kbytes).My problem is this. When the user selects the option print all, the listbox with approximately 10255 words is selected and begins to fill a Microsoft Word Document.Because the alotted amount of space needed for the MS Word Document is approximately 5 Gbytes,I need to open about 10 Documents and insert the String Array's and Pictures into each document one at a time.Is there anyway to check the filesize of the Open Document before saving the document.This way I could check the open document inside the algorithm for 512 Mbytes of memory and save the document before the size gets above 512 Mbytes.[code]

Closing Socket Each Time?
May 5, 2009In my small P2P Chat application I am listening on a port for messages and if some message arrives and pending, I am accepting it to a TcpClient and reading the data from the stream, writing back a "Received" response and closing it. This is in a loop with a sleep interval of 500 secs and runs in a separate thread. Is it a good practice to close the socket each time I receive and process a message or should I keep it alive till the chat box is closed on other side?
I am asking this because, when I do a "NETSTAT" on command line while chatting with someone, there is one entry per message that arrives locally. and many ports get to TIME_WAIT status, even if it is understood that they will be removed after 2 mins by the system.

With Vista (I have tried also others Sniffers) is impossible to see the outgoing packets...WHY? what I have to do to see alse the outgoing packets? In reality I have not to read packet data or packet lenght... I need only to count the number of incoming packets and outgoing packets... but with Vista this job seems impossible... or not?
