I have 1 process that acts as a server (TcpListener) and one or more processes that act as clients (TcpClient). The clients are sending Tcp requests to the server every 1-2 seconds to which the server responds with a result message.
In normal conditions the server will use TcpListener.Stop when it closes, but sometimes the server will crash (for whatever reason) and then this is not done. If I then try to restart then I get the following error:
"Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted"
I only get this error when there are clients running who keep trying to connect despite the TcpListener is not there anymore (crashed).I don't get this error when I first manually close/kill all clients before restarting the server/TcpListener.I'm looking for an automatic recovery procedure that deals with this error/problem. When I pass this address "M:songssome artistsome song.mp3" to the windows media player control it actually opens "\ServerMEDIAsome artistsome song.mp3". But when my program checks if it is playing the correct song it thinks it is not, because the strings aren't equal. Is there a way in VB to get the network address of a mapped network drive? I can already see that it is a network drive but not wich address it points to.

I have 2 winforms, one acts as server (ie Winform:Server role) and another one as client (ie Winform: Client role). In my LAN setup, there are 6 PCs and these PCs connected to each other via a 8-port switch and each PC has more than 1 LAN card.
There is one PC running [Winform: Server role] and 5 others running the [Winform: client role]. I need to clarify my intention. My current approach to my intention maybe incorrect. I attempt to create a 'zero configuration client-server networking' and that is plug & play. The server will know where the client and vise versa. I know there is a program (i.e. MaxiVista) has done that exactly.
MaxiVista has 2 applications, i.e. server and client. Users only need to execute the server application in PC designated as server role and execute the client application in another PC designated as client role. Then the server will be able to find all executing clients in the same LAN.
My intention is just that. Plug and play 'zero configuration client-server networking' within the same LAN.

I have a small embedded web server and to setup its network parameters I use a serial port, however this is giving me a lot of trouble due to USB to serial adapters (in some computers work in other doesn't).
However the other day I saw that Buffalo has a little program to find their NAS boxes (or network drives) when you don't know their IP address or got the wrong one so I assume they do it by looking for mac addresses.Is there any way of doing this with VB 2005 or higher? Basically I don't know the IP of the embedded server so I need to find it on a network, how do I find it?
a) I could do a general IP scan assuming it is on the same subnet than the host computer
b) if it has a different subnet... a general IP scan is not going to work, is it?
