Downloading Data From Remote Mysql Database

I'm looking into creating a program which will on program opening connect to a remote mysql database, download the data and store the data into a local file (keeping both in sync is the idea).
Getting a connection to the remote database is my first hurdle, and i'm not suceeding, i know i need to read through more info but if i could get this working it would help me tremendously.
I have attempted to connect using the mysql connector, using the server IP and port number ie. 199.002.999.000:3306 but it doesnt connect, it does connect locally ie. localhost but for some reason it won't connect to the remote server.
My other problem is that i cannot control the mysql server, i.e connections allowed remote etc, i think they're just enabled to accept connections from the server.
Is there a way to run a hidden browser script behind the scenes, download and run the file? I've tried looking for possible ways to acheive this, but have come up trumps so far.

Im trying to connect to a remote mysql database, and im having alot of crazy issues, i have checked connectionstrings.com for information, im used to doing this in vb6, but times are changing and im trying to rewrite my apps for vb.net. anyone able to help with the new connection string to get it setup so i can connect to a remote database? i already installed and added mysql.data MSI isntaller on there and its version 6.0.4 i beleive, how can i make this thing connect to the database now?

I'm trying to make a rather simple Visual Basic app with which I can update some tables within my MySQL databases.I've been following this tutorial from page 3 on, as the first 2 pages where on how to initialize a local MySQL database.My MySQL database is on my website, so I thought I had to use the website's name instead of "localhost". Anyways, I now use this code:

I have got a MySQL database stored on a remote server. I can user PHPMyAdmin to access the database and make changes to the table, i can also use a third party piece of software to do the same however when i try and access the database through my program it says that "Access denied for user 'lukefrost'@'%' to database 'PHCAdminSystem'". However it will allow me with the same logon credentials the other ways explained above. Can anyone help me with what the problem might be?

So, what I'm trying to do is to connect to a remote database using the MySQL connector. I can access the phpMyAdmin through a web-browser just fine. For some reason however trying to open the connection throws an exception 'Unable to connect to any of the specified MySQL hosts'. I have an issue with my code. The application interacts with a MySQL database on a remote server, I have access to this server. When my app is running the insert into code I m getting this error: "Conversion from string "INSERT INTO phpvms_fsspireps(pil" to type 'Integer' is not valid."

I'm developing a remote control program that uses a mysql database as the bound beetween the server and the client.The only problem is that cause of mysql being really varnuable to crashes i made it in a way that it checks for information every 10 seconds so things doesnt get messy. I have a data logging application that stores data in a table in a MySQL database. Data with a TimeStamp is logged into the table anytime the data from the sensor changes. This means that there maybe 2 seconds between data points or there maybe 20 seconds between points depending on how the data is changing.
When I need the data I have 2 dates and use this command to fill a table..SELECT FROM myTable WHERE timeStamp > date1 AND timeStamp < date2 This gets all the data that has a TimeStamp between the given dates, but in most case the first date in the returned table will be after date1, so I need to get the data from one row before the date returned in the table to know what the data was at date1.How can I get the data row that immediately precedes the returned data set?

I'm currently working on an application written in VB.net using Visual Studio. The app retrieves and updates data from a remote database. While debugging, I updated a particular row in the database and after messing around a bit managed to crash the app. Since then, whenever I fetch that particular row, the data that was previously updated continues to be retreived - regardless of what is actually in the database.
All other rows properly reflect the data in the database and are capable of being updated through the application as they should. However with this one particular row it continues to retrieve outdated data and locks up the application when I attempt to perform an update. Does Visual Studio create some sort of local copy of the database which was perhaps corrupted?

i write a program using vb 2005. This program collects data from Flight Simulator 2004 (altitude, speed, etc). These data should be uploaded periodically (every 10 secs) to a database which is installed to my website. The problem is that my hosting provider doesn't allow remote access to the database. Is there any way to put that data into the database?
ps. The strange with all the above is that i run a shareware program that can upload data collected from the flight to my database by simply adding the database name, user ir and password.

At moment iam trying to fetch some data out of a mysql database.hope i can explain well what i try to do.Okay i made a form with some text field and a combobox.What i want is at start when the form loads that all the last name will get catcht out of the mysql database. all those last names should go in the combobox.now i have a few textboxes like adress phone number living place go onWhat i try to do now is when all those lastnames are in the combo box when i select a nameand press the button to update that it will catch the info from that user out of the mysql database and puts the info in the right textfields.What i got so far is a succesfull connection to the mysql database.

well this may be a simple question to some but for me, im not even sure where to start. I have never done a program in VB.NET yet that uses a MySQL database. So this should be a fun thing to learn. I looked at an example for access databases and it seemed pretty straight forward. But I must use MySQL as the database is on a Linux server in Ohio.
What I got so far is how to connect to the database using ADODB. Here the example I'm giving. You got 4 col's call AccountNum (primary key), Phone, Name, and Address. For each row is data of a client. What I'm trying to do: the program asks for the account number. You type in the account number of the client. It then
compares it to the rows of AccountNum col till it finds a row with it. Then it asks if you'd like to change the phone number or address.
So what I'm looking for is the, how to call rows and change data in col's.
