I've got a program that downloads data from a mysql database via a XML file. I want to store this information locally. If I make a .mdb file could someone use this without have access on their machine?
View 13 RepliesI'm looking into creating a program which will on program opening connect to a remote mysql database, download the data and store the data into a local file (keeping both in sync is the idea).
Getting a connection to the remote database is my first hurdle, and i'm not suceeding, i know i need to read through more info but if i could get this working it would help me tremendously.
I have attempted to connect using the mysql connector, using the server IP and port number ie. 199.002.999.000:3306 but it doesnt connect, it does connect locally ie. localhost but for some reason it won't connect to the remote server.
My other problem is that i cannot control the mysql server, i.e connections allowed remote etc, i think they're just enabled to accept connections from the server.
Is there a way to run a hidden browser script behind the scenes, download and run the file? I've tried looking for possible ways to acheive this, but have come up trumps so far.
How can i make a button that download a file using http show a progress bar about the downloading file state?

However, now I have to download many and the number of files to download will change everyday.
I am not sure how I can get the web client to know which files have been downloaded or not? I was thinking of using a for loop to download each file. But I will never know how many there are to download?
The web client could download the same file twice?

I'm downloading a file asynchronously so that it doesn't stall the UI. I'm using a very basic WebClient and calling .DownloadFileAsync.The file I'm downloading is required for additional tasks after it has been downloaded. The issue that I'm running into is that, since the file is being downloaded on another thread, execution on the main thread continues while the file hasn't finished downloading.Is there any way to pause execution while the file is being downloaded? Or is there a better method?

View 10 RepliesThe program is finished I am on testing part. But I cant run the program. What happened was since I did this I got new PC so I had to install everything from scratch.. So now after downloading the mysql .net connector to connect to database and installing it i keep getting this error
"Could not load file or assembly 'MySql.Data, Version=6.1.3.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=c5687fc88969c44d' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified."
I tried everything Installed every single past version of the .net connector but I still keep getting error. I tried this on my laptop and even my new pc (which is 64bit so I thought thats the problem) but since I get the same error on laptop I don't know what else to do.

I made an app that connects to a mysql database to update a table. It works fine from my test machine, but if i deploy the app to another computer I get error: Unhandled Exception: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'MySql.Data, Version=6.3.6.0 I'm going through google to find a solution, but nothing has stood out yet, just wondered if anyone has encountered this before and knows of a quick fix.

I'd like to know how I would make the label display that information. For each label a different one. Like on label is their level. One is their username. So on and so forth.
Column names are : ID = username

My next step is to create a simple data file of my own that I can manipulate, update, sort etc in VB Express. Do I need another piece of software? I read about MySQL, which I understand is primarily used to access databases on the net, but can that be used to create a simple local data file on my PC? I am trying to download a file off my web server (easy) but the file its downloading is the updated version of the file running. I finally was able to program my automatic update software the program simply downloads a .txt file from my web server, reads it, and if the the version = (new version here) then download. If not, then go to another form. The problem I am getting though, is when the version is outdated, the file will go to download the new .exe and it gets and error saying "File already exists"
