Been a while since my last posts, so i'm kinda back again ^^ Me & my friends are gonne have our annual LAN party again next weekend, and I'm usually the one in charge of taking care of things, setting up the network etc etc. One thing i've noticed over the past 4 years, is that it usually takes us a day to get everyone set up correctly, all games up to date etc etc.

I was thinking of using a for loop to download each file. But I will never know how many there are to download?The web client could download the same file twice?

I am creating a ASP.NET (VB.NET) application that must retrieve a known remote file and return it to the visitor through their browser. I am attempting to use the sample from Microsoft located here: bid=812406 and running into an error 'This stream does not support seek operations'. I'm not sure how to proceed.Here is the code with the error line marked.

I'm working a program, which will download files from my server. But I need, program will download random files from text file on server, for example: I have [URL].
In links.txt are these links:
[URL] .....
If I run a program, it will download first link, after finish download it will download fifth link, second link etc. Downloading of one link works fine for me, but I need download more links...

View 1 RepliesI'm looking into creating a program which will on program opening connect to a remote mysql database, download the data and store the data into a local file (keeping both in sync is the idea).
Getting a connection to the remote database is my first hurdle, and i'm not suceeding, i know i need to read through more info but if i could get this working it would help me tremendously.
I have attempted to connect using the mysql connector, using the server IP and port number ie. 199.002.999.000:3306 but it doesnt connect, it does connect locally ie. localhost but for some reason it won't connect to the remote server.
My other problem is that i cannot control the mysql server, i.e connections allowed remote etc, i think they're just enabled to accept connections from the server.
Is there a way to run a hidden browser script behind the scenes, download and run the file? I've tried looking for possible ways to acheive this, but have come up trumps so far.
I have built this utility to upload/download files to an FTP server with a few options which will be taken from a command line. One of the options is going to be rename file. But this would be done on the remote side.
Basically, only tmp files will not be caught has hazardous on this FTP site during upload. So the file gets uploaded as tmp and will need to be renamed to .zip and vise-versa.
I know how to do this locally as it is not hard to use the moveto function, but how would I do this assuming, the ftp stream is already opened and read/write access is properly granted?

I dont understand how msdn can be so minimal on examples. Not one mention is made about this scenario anywhere on that vast resource. Hope someone here encountered this before and has the answer.

My program takes user input, replaces all spaces with "+", then inserts it into a search url for a specified web host. For example, the user enters:"How long is a foot?"
The generated URL (in this case I'm using dogpile.com) is:

This method has worked before for me, but now I just get an Internal Server Error every time the code is executed.

View 10 RepliesI am trying to download a file off my web server (easy) but the file its downloading is the updated version of the file running. I finally was able to program my automatic update software the program simply downloads a .txt file from my web server, reads it, and if the the version = (new version here) then download. If not, then go to another form. The problem I am getting though, is when the version is outdated, the file will go to download the new .exe and it gets and error saying "File already exists"
