Ideas On Implementing .NET Properties In T-SQL
May 16, 2012As I design my system using VB.NET with SQL Server/T-SQL I'm always struck by what seems to me an obvious gap, namely VB Class Properties. Say I have a table Employee with columns: [code]In VB I might have a class like:[code]So my property SpeaksAForeignLanguage depends on two fields currently. Perhaps someday this will change and more fields or conditions might come into play. THAT'S THE WHOLE REASON for using properties.Now if I need the equivalent of my property in SQL for whatever reason there's no way to do it other than to recode some SELECT statement using the two Knows... columns.

Oct 8, 2009I've created a couple of Comparer classes for FileInfo objects to allow sorting by Name and LastWriteTime properties, but ideally I'd like to combine them into once class, so that I can compare/sort by any property simply by passing through the chosen property name.However, I don't know how to go about this. My comparer class current includes:
Dim oX As FileInfo = CType(x, FileInfo)
Dim oY As FileInfo = CType(y, FileInfo)
Dim Result As Int16 = oX.Name.CompareTo(oY.Name)
I want to be able to substitute the Name property with the property name stored in the _sortColumn variable.I'm expecting the solution to be rather simple, but as yet, I haven't been able to figure it out!
Solution:I'd already got as far as researching Reflection, and had stumbled across PropertyInfo. But Fredriks solution cut down my search and provided a bit of structure, and I've come up with this (VB.Net) solution which seems to work nicely:

Jul 21, 2011We use a common web.config file to store all of our database connection strings.
I would like to have a way to read in all of them, somehow create a property or type so that they become dynamically available.
So when I want to create a new sql connection my my class can show the connections strings available.

so when the user types MySqlOps.ConnectionString. it will give a list of the connection strings read in from the config file.
Not sure how to approach making the connectionstrings available like above.

The idea is that the user can select as many audio files as he likes from a ListView, and a PropertyGrid will then display their tags + their values.When multiple files are selected, I want the property grid to display the values of the tags that all files have in common, and display empty values for tags that the files do not have in common.As an example, look at the properties list in your Visual Studio IDE when you select multiple controls (of the same type for this matter). Select a few Button controls, for example, and notice that the properties whose values are the same (often things like Font, ForeColor, etc) are displayed. Also notice that the values for properties that are not the same (Text, Name, etc) are empty.

As you can see, when I open a program from my menu, a new button will be created with text similar to this, "C:Program ". The button it self will not do anything. How can I create the method at the same time the button it is for is created? Also how can I change the text do that it gives me, for example, CCleaner.exe instead of the whole target path?

Apr 27, 2011I'm making a control and I am trying to finalize my design time properties grid. I have several List(of Class) items as public properties and when I click on the design time menu (while testing the control) there is the word "Collection" and a button with an ellipsis (...) that brings up a neat pop up with the buttons Add/remove and all of the public properties of the collection's class on the right hand side. Basically for a non-collection instance of a class (with public properties) I'd like a similar button to show up. I know I could put all of the properties in the main control class and group them, but I like the pop up box feature. Anyway to duplicate this? (think font grid item etc.)

Mar 5, 2012In the form design I set up a TableLayoutPanel, 20x20 cells and in cell (1,1) a PictureBox (called Target) containing the image of a small target. The properties box for Target shows some very promising properties, Column and Row - and if you overwrite the values in the properties box, the PictureBox obligingly shifts to the corresponding cell position in th design. However in VB it is not possible to refer to Me.Target.Row or .Column - neither appears during coding in the menu of properties, and deliberately coding either of them produces an error like
Error 1 'row' is not a member of 'System.Windows.Forms.PictureBox'.
1. Why does the properties box show properties that cannot be altered programmatically?
2. How can my program move Target around in the TableLayoutPanel?

Jan 16, 2009I'm working on a Hazardous Materials label printing program. One of the options is to do an "NFPA" label. Since there are 4 values required with 4 or 6 options, the ratings are entered via radio buttons in a group box. That's working okay. I display values in the NFPA diamond as they're entered: left quadrant blue, top quadrant red, left yellow, bottom red. I'm having trouble with the label in which the rating will be displayed on top of a jpg diamond for the white. In this quadrant the text can be up to 4 characters. I can accept the text going into an adjacent block a little, but the corners of the label overlap into another quadrant/color. I reduced the font size which solved the overlap problem but the font is then too small and looks terrible. I tried to make the background of the label transparent to let the color come through correctly but that's not a valid value for label.background. I'm figuring that the transparent background is the best solution. What can I use that will accept a transparent background so the color shows through?
I'm trying to set the transparent property via label properties properties, not via code. Here's the code if it makes any difference:

.net - Implementing A Dynamic Submenu In .Net?
Jun 20, 2011On a Windows Form in .Net 3.5 I have created a menu object and populated it with ToolStripMenuItems. One of these items has a DropDown object attached. The DropDown should appear when the mouse hovers over the parent ToolStripMenuItem and disappear when the mouse leaves the ToolStripMenuItem unless it is "leaving" the parent by entering the parent's DropDown.Also, I don't want the DropDown to automatically close when the user makes a selection in it, so I have set its "AutoClose" property to False.
Getting the DropDown to appear was easy. I just set up a handler for a "MouseEnter" event on the parent ToolStripMenuItem. But I'm stuck trying to make the DropDown disappear at the right time. If I set up a handler to close the it when the mouse leaves the parent ToolStripMenuItem, it becomes impossible to use the DropDown, because moving the mouse into the DropDown means "leaving" the parent ToolStripMenuItem, and so the DropDown closes as soon as the user tries to hover over it!
I haven't been able to figure out how to detect if the mouse has really left the whole ToolStripMenuItem / DropDown assembly (in which case the DropDown should close) or has only "left" the ToolStripMenuItem by entering the DropDown (in which case the DropDown should not close).This seems like a common design - a drop down that appears / disappears when the mouse hovers over / leaves the parent element - so how is it normally done?

Jul 10, 2010how to implement such a thing , i am currently programming a compact framework vb.net this is what i have done and am stuck,what ive learn is very basic and simple i am using a sqlce query to use it to search for any string matching entries in the database and then it will display it something like google search engine.And am using visual studio 2005, what ive done is that i will use the datareader to search for the rows in the database and then i will have to assign them to something that is similar to google search engine a dropdown list of similiar results but am not sure how. What im doing is for the user to search for a particular salesman name and then have a progressive search function to also help the user to complete typing rather than typing the full words

I have a passport size photograph. In that I want to implement a fade effect on image border. The fade parameter we pass would be the pixel width and we require to fade image border such that fade depth is decided by this parameter.
Note:- I am not using any controls to hold this image. Customer will upload the images in the applications and we will modify the above required and send them through email it is going to be console application. any WPF or VB Controls to implement this.

The issue I am having is that some of my team uses VB.net.
