VS 2010 Reflection, Create A Class With Dynamically Named Properties?

May 11, 2010

I'm trying to make a very simple audio tag editor. The idea is that the user can select as many audio files as he likes from a ListView, and a PropertyGrid will then display their tags + their values. When multiple files are selected, I want the property grid to display the values of the tags that all files have in common, and display empty values for tags that the files do not have in common. As an example, look at the properties list in your Visual Studio IDE when you select multiple controls (of the same type for this matter). Select a few Button controls, for example, and notice that the properties whose values are the same (often things like Font, ForeColor, etc) are displayed. Also notice that the values for properties that are not the same (Text, Name, etc) are empty.

C# - .NET Reflection Create Class Properties

Apr 28, 2009

how to create an instance of a class then add properties to the class, set those properties, then read them later. I don't have any code as i don't even know how to start going about this. C# or VB is fine.

My system has a dynamic form creator. one of my associates requires that the form data be accessible via web service. My idea was to create a class (based on the dynamic form) add properties to the class (based on the forms fields) set those properties (based on the values input for those fields) then return the class in the web service.

additionally, the web service will be able to set the properties in the class and eventually commit those changes to the db.

My problem is, I want to check if a property has been defined in a base class implementation and is therefore inherited in the current class.

Dynamically Creating Class Properties?

Jul 21, 2011

We use a common web.config file to store all of our database connection strings.

I would like to have a way to read in all of them, somehow create a property or type so that they become dynamically available.

So when I want to create a new sql connection my my class can show the connections strings available.

Dim myconn as new MySqlOps.Connection(MySqlOps.ConnectionString)

so when the user types MySqlOps.ConnectionString. it will give a list of the connection strings read in from the config file.

Not sure how to approach making the connectionstrings available like above.

Asp.net - .Net Iniatialising A Class Using System.Reflection And System.Type To Create A Session Based Singlton Extension Method

I have had several occasions recently to access a specific class several times over a relatively small time frame. So I've been storing the value of the class in Session and trying to access it on page load, if it's not available creating a new instance and storing that in session.

So instead of constantly replicating the same code for different classes on different pages I'm trying to create an extension method to do this for me.

I'm stuck on what to do when I make my new instance of my class (it would have to have a New() sub)

I'm not sure where to go from here... or even if this is the best way to do it.

Inside The Service Class, Declare A Class Variable Named Started?

May 8, 2012

Create a class named Service. Inside the Service class, declare a class variable named Started. The datatype of this variable is Boolean.Public Class Service Dim started as Boolean End Class Create a class named Server. Inside the Server class, declare a dynamic array that can contain elements of the type Service.(Note: For convenience, both the array and the variable Started can be accessible from a client program that creates an instance of Server and Service respectively)

Create a constructor for the Service class. When the constructor is executed, it will set the value of the class variable Started to True. Create two new classes: WebServer and DatabaseEngine. Both of these classes inherit from the class Service. Inside the Service class, declare a Sub procedure (method) named Terminate. This method should display the following text Service stopping in a message box when executed. This method can be overridden in classes that inherit from Service class.

Inside both the WebServer and DatabaseEngine class, override the method Terminate inherited from their base class Service. Both methods should first call the base class Terminate method. The messages Web server stopping and Database engine stopping should also be displayed in a message box when the Terminate method for the WebServer and DatabaseEngine are called respectively. These messages should only be displayed if the Started variable inherited from their base class is not equal to False.

Inside the Server class, declare a method named Shutdown. This method does not return any value. When executed, it will call the Terminate method for each of the Service instances (if any) in the arrServices
array. You should call the Terminate method within a For Each loop that loops through the elements of the arrServices array.

In the Sub Main method, create an instance of the class Server. Set the size of the arrServices array in
your Server instance to contain 2 elements. Create first a WebServer instance and then a DatabaseEngine
instance into this array. Call the Shutdown method from your Server instance.

Reflection For A List Properties Elements?

Oct 31, 2010

I am creating a dynamic clone method to be used in my custom classes. I want the clone function to be completely generic, so I do not have to make any changes when I add new properties to the class. I am having an issue with regards to making a deep copy a property that is a List. sample code that will enable me to identify with reflection that a property of my class is a List, and then more importantly the code to loop through the the List elements and copy of each of them. I have been able to identify a property as a List by using the NameSpace of the property type, but I'm not a big fan of that method. Either way, I have yet been able to dynamically loop and deep copy the elements of the property that's a List using reflection.

Create An Object Of A Class In Which There Are Properties And Functions That Do Database Selects, Updates And Deletes?

how to implement UI, BL and DAL in a project the way that I see it as a requirement for some projects. The way I am able to do a project now is from a form create an object of a class in which there are properties and functions that do database selects, updates and deletes. Looks to me that doing a project like that is separating the UI from the DAL. In an update button click event I may call Obj. Delete (txtCustID.txt) for example. I don't understand the part of further breaking it down to include a Business layer; in which a vb solution is made up of three solutions. What goes in the BL?Does the BL call the DAL?

Something like:

Of course thats not going to work because this is not an instance of an object and if I instantiate a new object, I'll lose the reference from my Bussiness Layer.

ASP.NET - Ascx.designer 'properties' Not Showing Up In Reflection At Runtime

Jul 2, 2010

I have a very simple setup, single mycontrol.ascx with assoicated mycontrol.ascx.designer.vb and mycontrol.ascx.vb file.

mycontrol.ascx embeds a single reference to a custom control: "MyMenu":

<mM:myMenu id="myMenu1" runat="server" />

This has created a protected reference in the mycontrol.ascx.designer.vb file:

Protected WithEvents myMenu1 As Global.CustomControls.MyMenu

Now, when I breakpoint the Page_Load() event of mycontrol.ascx, and inspect the members returned from the type via:

Me.GetType().GetMembers()

I cannot any reference to myMenu1. If I look at the control with intellisence, the property is accessible:

Me.myMenu1

what I'm missing and what I need to do to access designer created properties at runtime through reflection?

Visual Studio 2008 - Reflection - Iterate Object's Properties Recursively Within Own Assemblies?

Sep 11, 2009

I wonder if anyone can help me - I've not done much with reflection but understand the basic principles. What I'm trying to do:I'm in the process of developing a class that gathers a lot of information about the local system, network, etc... to be used for automated bug reporting. Instead of having to change my test harness every time I add a new property, I'd (ideally) like to be able to serialise the lot as an XML string and just display that in a textbox.

Unfortunately, the Framework won't use the default XML serializer on read-only properties (which almost all of mine are) as they wouldn't deserialize properly [Not sure I agree with the assumption that anything serialized must be de-serializable - MS says this is a feature "by design" which I suppose I can understand - Perhaps a tag to indicate that it should be serialized anyway would be advantageous?]

The initial approach was to make properties gettable and settable (with a throw exception on the setter) but the amount of work tidying this up afterwards seems a little excessive and I would want the properties to be read-only in the final version. What I need help with:My current plan is to use reflection to recursively iterate through each (public) property of my topmost gathering class. The problem is, the samples I've seen don't handle things recursively. Additionally, I only want to inspect an object's properties if it's in one of my assemblies - Otherwise just call .ToString on it.

If I don't have the inspection limited to my assembly, I assume I'll get (say) a string which then contains a Length which in turn will have .Tostring method. For the purposes of this project, I can almost guarantee no circular references within my code and as this will only be used as a development tool so I'm not too concerned about it running amok now and then.

VS 2010 : Create Windows Services Dynamically?

Apr 26, 2012

I'm working on a application which suppose to work as a interface between multiple applications. as a example, one PBX system sends me data via TCPIP or COM ports and I manipulate it and send to PMS application. likewise PMS also send me data which I need to send back to PBX system.By query is, I don't have a fix number of communication interfaces and it can go up to 8 - 10 or may be more and they should work independently (should be able to switch off communication at any time in any interface).

In this situation, I cannot handle everything in one service or two since I don't know how many interfaces going to be. So I'm thinking a way to create services dynamically such as when user create a new interface in application it automatically creates the windows service on server or pc.I don't really need to create services remotely since my application will install only in one pc or a server and system administrator will access the server for the configurations.
