I am just learning about making classes and need to make one with 2 properties.Below is the beginning of a class for ingredients in a coffee machine.But I want sugar and water to also hold name (string) ='sugar' and number(integer) = 4 so its like thisIngredients.coffee.name or ingredients.coffee.number[code]

I am in need of a form that shows various options, exactly like the Options in Visual Studio. Since there are so many options I too want them categorized, with a TreeView to the left taking care of showing the right category.The usual 'easy' approach here would be to just place a TreeView control on the form, add some nodes, and give those nodes a tag or key that corresponds to a panel or UserControl with the options for that category.Since there will be a lot of options however, this is not really feasible design-wise; the form would be cluttered with possibly 50 panels, all of which I would need to select and bring to front from time to time to add controls to them that represent the options.
So I decided to create a custom control that does exactly that. The control is very similar to my Wizard usercontrol, users can add OptionsPanels at design time, which inherit Panel and simply represent one panel of options. When they do, the panel is added to a container panel, and at the same time a TreeNode is added to a TreeView. The control uses a custom ControlDesigner to handle design-time clicks in the Treeview, selecting a different node would select and bring to front the corresponding panel, allowing the user to add the controls he wants.
Due to the design time support the problem of having 50 panels is no longer present, only one panel will be visible at a time and selecting the right panel is as simple as selecting the corresponding TreeNode, just as during run-time. Anyway, I got all this working, but only for a single 'level' of categories. As you can see in the Visual Studio options, there can be multiple levels of categories. For example, the Environment node has a bunch of children, where each child represents one 'options panel'. There can even be deeper nesting, see the Text Editor node for example.Let me begin by drawing out the basics of how my control works so far.
The main control is an OptionsView control, which contains a SplitContainer with a TreeView to the left and a OptionsPanelContainer to the right. The OptionsPanelContainer is merely a Panel to which only OptionsPanel controls can be added, and which raises events when this happens, as well as when OptionsPanels are removed from it. An OptionsPanel also inherits Panel, and these are the actual panels the users will see in the control, one for each option category.For now, each OptionsPanel has exactly one corresponding TreeNode (and vice versa). In the Visual Studio options, each 'parent' category usually has a 'General' node as the first child, and the parent and this General node show the same option panel, but I am ignoring that for the moment.
The OptionsView control has a property Panels that returns the ControlCollection (Controls property) of the OptionsPanelContainer (in other words: it returns a collection of OptionsPanels that are in this container panel).
vb.net
<Editor(GetType(Designers.OptionsPanelCollectionEditor), GetType(UITypeEditor))> _ <DesignerSerializationVisibility(DesignerSerializationVisibility.Content)> _ Public ReadOnly Property Panels As Control.ControlCollection Get Return Me.PanelContainer.Controls End Get End Property
A custom CollectionEditor for this property takes care of the designer: even though the property type is ControlCollection, the CollectionEditor knows it should create instances of the OptionsPanel control instead of just Controls.When it does this, a corresponding TreeNode is also created and its Tag property is set to the OptionsPanel. Vice versa, the Node property of the OptionsPanel is set to the node. Hence the node and panel both know their corresponding object.
vb.net
Public Class OptionsPanelCollectionEditor Inherits System.ComponentModel.Design.CollectionEditor Public Sub New(type As Type) MyBase.New(type) End Sub Protected Overrides Function CreateCollectionItemType() As System.Type
[code]....
So far so good, this all works fine. I can add Panels via the designer and when I do a new TreeNode appears in the TreeView. I can select this node and the panel becomes visible (comes to the front).Now, I am a little stuck. How do I implement child option panels? And more importantly: how do I let the user add child panels?The most logical choice I think is to let each OptionsPanel have a property (ChildPanels or something) that returns the child OptionsPanels for that panel. Once the user selects an OptionsPanel then, he can look in the property grid to find its ChildPanels property and add child panels to that.
There is a problem though: what would this property return? It must return a ControlCollection of some container (this is, I think, a requirement for the designer features to work, otherwise panels are not added to the Form.Designer.vb file). But there is no container. I cannot add them to the OptionsPanel itself, that would make no sense because the parent OptionsPanel has its own set of controls (the options itself...), there cannot be another (fully docked) Panel on top of those obviously.The container of the main OptionsView then? That is not an option either, its Controls collection holds ALL OptionsPanels, not just the children of the selected panel. I cannot 'select' only the right panels either, that would require me to return a new instance of ControlCollection, it would be impossible to return the actual ControlsCollection that holds merely a small selection of its controls.

Is there a way to validate ALL properties in a class at once? I have a class with various validations added to property "Getter" to validate user inputs. (The problem is that all my validations only invoke if a user input something to the field that bind to the property. Any fields that user simply bypass will not get validated). Ideally I want to loop through each property and validate in a "Save()" method.

Ok so my boss told me that I can't use DataSet's and dataadapter and such like this because it isnt good for scalability. So, I must change the way I have my 28,000 records binded to my form. The problem is, I'm only 3 months in with VB.NET and I don't know of any other way to accomplish what I need to do. I was reading somewhere that I can use a Class as my "Order" and I can bind the variables/properties to the form and with this, I can navigate through records while having controls on each important part of the "Order". Unfortunately, I don't know what I'm doing, this is as far as [code]Any guidance as to what I am to do from here in order to pull the data from my database and bind to the property, then to a text box/combo box, and a way that I can use my binding navigator to go through the many records.

Is there any way to add new properties to a control? For example, I'm using an "OvalShape" from Microsoft's Powerpacks, these are designated as "Cells". I would like to add properties to the class itself (if I had a physical class to edit) for different processes such as "energy level", "family number", "mutation", etc. General variables that are either Boolean, Integers, or etc. If there isn't a way to edit the powerpack class itself, is there a way I can use the ovalshape power pack in my own class and add extra properties to it myself?

I'm trying to make a very simple audio tag editor. The idea is that the user can select as many audio files as he likes from a ListView, and a PropertyGrid will then display their tags + their values.When multiple files are selected, I want the property grid to display the values of the tags that all files have in common, and display empty values for tags that the files do not have in common.As an example, look at the properties list in your Visual Studio IDE when you select multiple controls (of the same type for this matter). Select a few Button controls, for example, and notice that the properties whose values are the same (often things like Font, ForeColor, etc) are displayed. Also notice that the values for properties that are not the same (Text, Name, etc) are empty.

I have a GUI class and a database class. I do something like:
Dim db as Database = getDatabaseObject(logTxtBox)
db.executeNonQuery("some update command here")
Within executeNonQuery I connect to the db, execute the command, disconnect and catch the exceptions. logTxtBox is the GUI txt box I want log messages written to. Currently it writes something like:
Connected to DB successfully
Executing "some update command here"
Excepetion: ........
Disconnecting from DB
I feel like this isn't the best structure for my logging. As soon I kick off executeNonQuery with a BackgroundWorker instead of with the main GUI thread I cannot access the GUI's logTxtBox from the BackgroundWorker's thread. Is there a better way to implement this kind of functionality?

I am a vb6 enthusiast willing to try NET. I am confused by all the versions and the fact that limitations of the 'free' version are not spelt out. My requirement is to be able to convert vb6 applications (possibly, but don't mind a manual rewrite), to write applications (not for tablets or phones yet) that I can use myself and possibly publish to others. I would like to allow printed reports for my financial applications. I will have a small home network up soon but ability to operate on a network is not critical. I do NOT want to download a 'free' version and find that it is crippled one way or another, like allowing development but not publication.
Whether the 'free download' is OK, and which one (Express?), or point to a site where the versions are clearly laid out.

This is another one of my "I think it's not possible but I need confirmation" questions.I have a base class for a bunch of child classes. Right now, this base class has a few common properties the children use, like Name. The base is an abstract class (MustInherit)Technically, this means that everytime a child class is instantiated, it lugs around, in memory, its own copy of Name. The thing is, Name is going to be a fixed value for all instances of a given child. I.e., Child1.Name will return "child_object1", and Child2.Name will return "child_object2".

I have multiple user controls (the same one dynamically added to a form 4 times), and one class. I would like all of the user controls raise events in that one class. For example, if any of the user controls are clicked, I want it to send a string to the class to be processed and show a MsgBox "Control name was clicked"I am doing this as an exercise to reduce repeating the same code over and over directly in the control, and to avoid creating the class over and over to accompany each user control.

I need to click an image in a webbrowser from a Windows Form in VS 2010.I can click ordinary links using code such as this one:
Private Sub Button14_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button14.Click
Dim lnk As HtmlElement
For Each lnk In Form2.WebBrowser1.Document.Links
If lnk.InnerText = "the_text_of_the_link" Then
[code]....
When it comes to the second variation of the code I often get the following error message (exception):NullReferenceException was unhandled Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Basically - how do I tell it to click on it only if there are two separate and unique strings of html code in a html tag?

I was wondering if it was possible to make custom message box options. What I mean is, I'm going to have a button that pops up a message box. The message box will say, for example, "What is 10 x 10?" and I want there to be three options, instead of a Yes/No type of thing: "1000", "100", and "20". Is there a way of doing that? Or would I have to create my own message box using some software?

In the form design I set up a TableLayoutPanel, 20x20 cells and in cell (1,1) a PictureBox (called Target) containing the image of a small target. The properties box for Target shows some very promising properties, Column and Row - and if you overwrite the values in the properties box, the PictureBox obligingly shifts to the corresponding cell position in th design. However in VB it is not possible to refer to Me.Target.Row or .Column - neither appears during coding in the menu of properties, and deliberately coding either of them produces an error like
Error 1 'row' is not a member of 'System.Windows.Forms.PictureBox'.
1. Why does the properties box show properties that cannot be altered programmatically?
2. How can my program move Target around in the TableLayoutPanel?

how to have all forms have the same on closing event with the exception of one form (Form1). I want the forms to show Form1 when one of the other forms is closed. I know there is a way to do it, I just can't work out how.
My code at the moment assumes that each form will have a boolean declared on it as false that will only turn true if you use a legitimate way off of the page (i.e. a regular button on the form). If you instead click the exit button on the title panel it will find the boolean is false and show Form1.
So the only problem I really have is getting the code to apply to all forms without writing it for all of them.

where myObject and myOtherObject are of the same type. I do it by bascually doing
myObject.prop1 = myOtherObject.prop1

I was trying to code a save option for my project, it's a spammer that I have created and I have made it to where people can have their own personal spam message and when they want to use it all they have to do is click a radio button and the text will appear in the text box. Now like I said I want it to save, like they make their own customizable spamming options and then save it so they want have to continue typing in the message because that would defeat the purpose of my project.
Here is the code:
TextBox2.Text = (TextBox2.Text)
RadioButton1.Text = (TextBox2.Text)
TextBox3.Text = (TextBox3.Text)
RadioButton2.Text = (TextBox3.Text)
TextBox4.Text = (TextBox4.Text)

Though it wouldn't work unless I imputed this code
Private Sub SaveSetting(ByVal p1 As String)
Throw New NotImplementedException
But when I start the program it quits and says the " NotImplementedException" is unhandled:/
