I was playing a game recently and saw that they could use args in the shortcut, and I decided to try to impliment this into my application...so far, I got: (runs this sub on load)
Sub startup_args()
If Environment.GetCommandLineArgs.Contains("+game") Then
Dim path As Array = Environment.GetCommandLineArgs
[code]....
just to see what it returns, but the application crashes. I also tried path.tostring(), but that didn't work. When I did:
If Evnironment.GetCommandLineArgs.Contains("+game") Then
Dim path as string = Environment.GetCommandLineArgs.tostring
MsgBox(path)
[code]....
but that returned the value "SString.Array[]"...
This is the code I'm using now to start another EXE from my application:
Process.Start(My.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories.Temp & "MyDownloadedApp.exe")
This EXE has a command line option however - /check. How can I change this so that it runs with the /check command?
I'm using Process.Start to start an external command line application and using the StartInfo.Arguments method to send parameters to the application. I imagine I'll need to use a loop... but I can't figure out exactly how yet.I need to send anywhere from 1 - an infinite number of files names to this application. Each file has to be sent one after the other. So once the first one is done, I need to loop back around and past the second one.I can probably use the Directory.GetFiles method to get all of the files, but I don't know how to assign them.

View 2 RepliesMy intentions are to add command line switching. I am trying to see if i could run my application in varoius ways i.e.
App.exe -S - Start the application in XX Mode
app.exe -T30 - Start application with 30 second delay
and that kinda switching.
I cannot run Windows Services , I am getting error message "Cannot start Service from the command line or a debugger. A Windows Services must first be installed (using Installutil.exe) and then started with the ServerExplorer, Windows Services administrative tool or the NET START Command."
I have run the InstalluTil.exe and open the Visual Studio 2005 command prompt and run below command but still not working.
InstallUtil " D:\Khwathie\MyNewService\MyServ\MyServ\bin\Debug\MyService.exe".
How would I start a Command Line program with arguments?

I have beginner skills using VB (am using the Express edition to learn). I would like to know how to set up a conditional statement in a Windows Form (WF) app that would check if a specific command line has been passed by another separate app that launchesthe Windows Form app using command lines, and if not passed, then the Windows Form app would shut down (exit, close). So far, I can use:
For Each s As String In My.Application.CommandLineArgs
If s <> "xyz" Then
Me.Close()

Is there a performance difference between these two compiling options?

I've commented out various things to limit it to specifically this command (example, I can swap mklink out with notepad and it works fine). The command runs fine from a DOS window, but can't be found when I use it this way. I also tried using the SHELL command just to test and I get the same results. No idea why it can't be found, as like I said it executes from the command prompt just fine.
I am just learning about making classes and need to make one with 2 properties.Below is the beginning of a class for ingredients in a coffee machine. But I want sugar and water to also hold name (string) ='sugar' and number(integer) = 4 so its like thisIngredients.coffee.name or ingredients.coffee.number[code]

I'm just starting to use vb .net (using 2008 express edition) and I want to make a menu for my program that will be like a sidebar that when you click one of the options, a few sub-options will fold out that will push the main options below downwards - and then the sub-options will disappear and the options will go back into place when something else is selected.I am not sure exactly where to start in terms of making those options get pushed down/come back up..

I may be getting in way over my head, but here it goes. I am developing a small application for use on a helpdesk. The application will be installed on the client pc's and will be used primarily by the end user to assist the technician on the phone if the user's pc is offline or inaccessible. One part of the application gives the user their IP address, DNS address, DHCP address, and gateway address. I have it to where it will put all of those in the corresponding fields inside a form, but it does not work correctly outside of a domain. Outside of a domain it only gives the IP address. I am sure it is probably how I coded it, but I cannot think of any other way to get that info in a user friendly way. Is there a way to parse a command prompt command to specific fields inside of a form such as the command ipconfig /all?
View 3 RepliesI am using the following code to run defrag and to analyze if the C: drive requires defragmentation:
Dim analyze As Process = System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("C:WindowsSystem32defrag.exe", "C: /a /h /u /v")
This process runs through analyzing, runs it in normal mode & prints the progress to the command window.
My problem is that as soon as the process is complete the command window closes. I need it to stay open so that I can read the results.
I am trying to send a command to the external command line (cmd.exe) from the Windows form application that I'm writing in VB.NET (using VS2008).
I can only access the external program thru the command line (its not my program) and I must do so from a form app.
I am trying to use the following code. I am able to call a cmd.exe window, but I can't pass the command line my command.

I am using a CheckedListBox that is populated with Filenames (full path, i.e. C:TestTest.jpg)When I have the files that I want in the CheckedListBox I wish to click a Start Button which will process the list one at a time using an exe program that runs on the Command Line. There are arguments that need to pass to the command line as well as the file location in order for the program to process.I currently have it working but the issue is the loop finishes quickly and it is left up to the CMD.exe to finish the process. What I would like is for the LOOP to wait until each file completes processing before passing the command for the next file in the CheckedListBox.There some reasons I wish for it to work this way.
1) I would like to have a button that can Pause/Restart the Loop.
2) I would like to have a button that can Stop the Loop so the whole process can end.
3) I would like to have the Loop remove each file one by one from the CheckedListBox after it has been processed.
4) I would like to display a Message once all the files have been processed.
5) And if it were possible I would like to report the status either by text or a progress bar showing where it is at in the process.
6) And the ability to add some error handling if possible.
Since the Loop finishes so quickly as it just passes the command to the command line using the & as a seperator it is the command line that is handling the rest of the process. Because of this there is not control over it in the GUI.The code I am using allows the Command Line text to display in the Form so it won't open up a seperate window to run CMD.exe. This is the desired affect as I would like everything to appear to run from within the Form itself.

I'm using VS2008, and I have a project that will not start when I press F5 or when I click the little green triangle in the toolbar. The screen flickers once, like the project is going to run, and then it doesn't. The build message claims the build was successful, but the project won't start. In the Configuration Manager, my 'Active solution configuration:' is set to Debug, and in the 'Project contexts' list, the 'Configuration' column for my Project is set to Debug. I've even switched them back and forth between Debug and Release and then back to Debug, all with no effect. The project that I'm trying to run is set as the 'Startup Project' in my solution. If I go to my inDebug folder and double-click the .exe, (which shows the proper time-stamp on the file) my app runs just fine.Any ideas why I can't get the silly thing to run in debug mode?
EDIT:
It's a winforms application.
My version of Visual Studio is 9.0.30729.1 SP

I cannot find the pause command in VB 2010 Express, even if I pressed Ctrl+Pause, VB opens new tab titled "No source available" In previous VB express 2005 and 2008 it was simple to edit the code while running but in VB 2010 I have to stop the code or put a break point inside the procedure which I want to edit.
View 9 RepliesIs there a "best practices" way to parse a rich-text string (which contains the content of a several page document) so that I can identify the "start of a sentence"?The task at hand is this: basically, after making replacements in the text (substituting "markers" with actual data values), I then need to go back and see if any of the replacement data occurred at the start of a sentence, ensure that the first letter of that replacement is capitalized.
I can certainly find occurrences of sentences within paragraphs (i.e. a period followed by one or more spaces), but it is identifying the sentences at the start of paragraphs that would be the main challenge. In looking at the rich-text string in Notepad, I see that a paragraphs start with "par", but there are many variations, depending on other formatting, etc.
