Error "E_UNEXPECTED(0x8000FFFF)" When Using CDec/CInt/IsNumeric?

Mar 31, 2010

I have build a DLL with COM enabled. In this DLL I have classes that did use the functions CInt, CDec and IsNumeric. If I test these classes from a .NET application then it works ok. But when I called/run these classes from a Win32 application (with COM) then I did get an "E_UNEXPECTED(0x8000FFFF)" error.After some debugging I found out that the problem would go away if I:- replaced IsNumeric with Integer.TryParse or Decimal.TryParse- replaced CInt with Integer.Parse- replaced CDec with Decimal.Parsey.

Conversion Using CDec From String To Type 'Decimal' Is Not Valid?

Jan 28, 2010

Please excuse the newbie question as I started learning VB last week . I wrote the following test code below to add two values entered in two textboxes and display it in another textbox. However I keep getting the exception. "Conversion from string "" to type 'Decimal' is not valid" with the code below and I cannot figure out why . I thought converting using 'CDec' resolves this issue ?

Why Is It That The Cint() Is Only Used For Pic.GetPixel(X,Y).R) And Not For The Others

Jul 22, 2011

i need some help on explaining to me whats going on in the code below. Basically, the code below is used to convert a bitmap image to grayscale level (black and white).

Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Dim pic As Bitmap
pic = picVisible.Image
Dim X As Integer

[code].....

what i dont understand is the part;

color = (CInt(pic.GetPixel(X, Y).R) + pic.GetPixel(X, Y).G + pic.GetPixel(X, Y).B) / 3

why is it that the Cint() is only used for pic.GetPixel(X,Y).R) and not for the others ? Any Image processing expert that can help explain this ?

Note: The code works well and manages to convert an image into its grayscale.

What Size Does The CInt Convert To

Jun 3, 2009

I must not be using the proper search terms.

Convert.ToInt32 obviously is a 32 Bit Integer
Convert.ToInt16 obviously is a 16 Bit Integer

So what Size does the CInt convert to?

.net - Double To Integer Conversion Concerning CInt And Rounding?

Oct 7, 2011

I'm quite a newbie in VB.NET (and VB on the whole). So my question could sound rather odd, but still. I've stumbled upon an issue with the CInt and converting a double to an integer.

The issue is the following: CInt(10.5) would be 10

CInt(10.51) would be 11, but I expected 10... (Got used to C# style conversion: (int)10.51 would be 10)

As pointed out here Integer.Parse VS. CInt the result is just rounded in some fashion. Nowever, all I need is to get only integer part and throw away the fractional one. How can I achieve such type of conversion in VB.NET? After a short research I assume that I can use Fix() funciton to do the trick, but is it the best choice ever?

.net: CInt Returning -1 On A (seemingly Valid) String?

I have a strange problem where CInt (as well as Convert.ToInt32 or even Val) return -1 for a string "500". Using Gurock's SmartInspect for logging, I've checked all values at runtime (SiAuto... logs something, I'm posting the log below the code).

Asp.net - Why IsNumeric() Fails On A Number

Aug 2, 2009

I currently have this line of code which has been working for the past 6 months:

If IsNumeric(txtProductID.Text) Then
...do stuff
Else
Dim msg As String = "Error!"
End If

All of the sudden, no matter what kind of entry is put in txtProductID (including plain numbers), it fails! Is there reason for me to be going crazy over this?

Wrong Result From IsNumeric() In .NET?

Jul 21, 2011

I have a function in VB.NET that loops through values and attempts to convert it to a decimal if IsNumeric is True,

Dim Value As String
If IsNumeric(Value) = True Then
Rate = CType(Value, Decimal) <--- bombing here
End If

I've found that when the function receives the value 603E43 IsNumeric evaluates to True for some reason and then bombs on the conversion. Why would IsNumeric be true in this case?

Isnumeric Cannot Recognize Percentage String As Number?

Feb 16, 2012

I have some customized string formats of double values. I need to convert these strings to double values at some point (Note that these strings may contain error messages other than numbers). So I first check if these strings are numbers, and if yes, then convert them to double. Isnumeric works for my first customized string format. But I found that is numeric cannot recognize percentage strings. I wonder why isnumeric understands () but cannot understand %. And what is the better way to convert "(100.00)" and "50%" to doubles other than Cdbl?

IsNumeric Returns True For Strings Containing A D Character

Nov 25, 2011

I had a strange error in a VB6 app this morning and it all stems from the fact that IsNumeric is not working as I expected. To me this seems like a bug.

This code displays 4.15877E+62 in a message box:

Dim strMessage As String
strMessage = "0415877D57"
If IsNumeric(strMessage) Then

[Code]....

I am guessing that the runtime engine is incorrectly thinking that the D is in fact an E? I think this is a bug though as the exact same code in VB.NET outputs not numeric Is this a known issue with IsNumeric?

Textbox IsNumeric And SupressKeyPress Quick Query

If e.KeyCode = Keys.Enter Then
e.SuppressKeyPress = True
Call Plot()
[Code] .....

Which is used to plot bearings. The user inputs a bearing of 0-360 degrees. It works fine if a user say types in "abc" or "/" i.e. anything that isn't numeric. But if a user types in "90/" then it allows it. When the bearing is plotted the keypress is surpressed so the user cant then go back an edit. Is there a quick way to amend the code to allow for this?

Asp.net - Server Error Asks For Error Specific Page Instead Of Error Details?

Mar 6, 2012

When I deployed my project on a server, in certain circumstances, I get an error page that indicates I should create a custom error page. I was wondering how exactly I would implement this custom error page the server asks for to give me a precise and helpful message or preferably, how I would get the error to just display on the main page?This is the error message I got below

Runtime Error

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->
<configuration>
<system.web>

[code]....

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->
<configuration>
<system.web>

VB Compiler Is Unable To Recover From The Error: System Error &Hc0000005& (VB Internal Compiler Error)

Jul 1, 2011

This error first appear to occur randomly. Steps to recreate:Open Visual Studio and load a solution (some files automatically opened) - this is when the problem occurs Close all open files Restart visual studio and load solution (no issues)Open Exactly the same files again, restart visual studio and load solution so files open automatically (problem occurs!)

However, when trying to narrow it down to a single file (that is automatically opened when the solution is loaded), I couldn't reproduce the problem. Now with all the files open again the problem doesn't occur!!! So it looks like it is fixed - though this happened before and eventually the issue came back.

I think it is to do with one of the user controls with DevExpress controls on it - when the error occurs, the designer displays the error. Though I can't reproduce it at the moment to confirm that.

Asp.net - .Net Oracle ORA-24338 'statement Handle Not Executed' Error And Some Error In One Stored Procedure

Dec 8, 2009

I have the following Stored Procedures create or replace PROCEDURE WEB_AC

[Code]...

First one: At some point in the application I have the valor parameter (of the visual Basic Function) as a string with spaces that is something like "some string with spaces". When this happens, the stored procedure don't update the table. If I execute the SP directly in the DB (with SQL Developer) all works fine. I know it has something to do with the string missing some quotes(') but I haven't make it work yet. Some ideas on this?

Second problem: Sometimes, when debuging the application, if I interrupt the execution, I start getting the ORA-24338 'statement handle not executed' error for hours every time I try to execute it again. I believe it has something to do with an open transaction. But honestly, as I'm new in working with Oracle, I really have no idea what the problem could be.
