View 2 RepliesI`m trying to write a programme ,in VB2008 Express, to receive Serial Port Ascii data ( from a Multimeter) and display it as Hex Data in a textbox. I can get the Ascii data to show, but just cannot convert it into Hex. Once I can do this I want to write a new front end for the Mulimeter software.

I read in a unique file type, its called .pkm, it's just a collection of hex data. Anyways, I'm using VB Express 2005 (or 2008 since it's free), and I read in the file, and printed out the values. It printed out the ASCII character equivalent, so all I saw were the weird symbols and all (the hex characters in this file do not convert using ASCII). What I want to do is convert it to hex so I can see what the hex values are.

Too bad image code is off. That is a screen from a hex editor that reads it in properly. Currently my program displays it the way it is seen on the right, but I need it displayed the way it is on the left, in plain hex.
I am converting a VB6 program to VB express and am having a couple of problems. One of them is a problem with the variable "strEncTemp". I have the warning "Variable strEncTemp is used before it has been assigned a value", and I can't assign a value to this variable without creating issues. It also seems that a null value is being returned and the code produced by this routine is corrupt. This seems to be the last issue I have in converting the code. I tried setting it to 0 but it then shuts down the program with an error. This is the portion of code that has the warning and produces a null value. [Code]

MYColor is a long integer and does not work because the above code needs a system color.
The Form Designer in the IDE is no longer working properly. When I create a new project, the Form Designer will work, but after I save it and close the IDE and reopen the next day the Form Designer no longer shows the form and instead says "To prevent possible data loss before loading the designer, the following errors must be resolved: An Error occurred while parsing EntityName.Line 2, position 62" If I click ignore and continue, then it just displays a blank form with no controls. The problem appears to have started after I unistalled and reinstalled VB2008 Express.

I am writing a program that asks the user for their name and the number of pieces they completed. The employees are paid more depending on the amount of pieces they have completed(i.e. <200 = .50 per piece, 200 to 399 = .55 per piece, etc.). I have to display the amount earned when the user enters the info and hits the calculate button. I have to use Select Case.
I was thinking this would be an easy program but I keep getting an error for each Case saying "Option Strict On disallows implicit conversions from 'Double' to 'Decimal'. I don't understand why it thinks it is a double. It says I can correct this problem by adding "Cdec" before each equation(i.e.

At run time my application gives an error of "Conversion from type "DBNull" to type "String" is not valid. In my form only one field - Add_info is an optional field which might be filled or not by the user. Before, I had an error when an apostrophe was used so i updated the code as highlighted below. This in return removed the apostrophe error but generated an error whenever there is an empty additional field.

I have code that loops through a string array to add words one at a time to a line of limited length. I am trying to fit a phrase on up to four lines, centering the words on each line. My code appears to add the first word but on the 2nd word I get a "conversion from string "IS" to type 'Double' is not valid" error.

The items in Combobox3 is populated by another table in the same database, which has a Status field and a Key field. I created a form with a datagrid to show data stored in an Access database. It shows the data correctly, using the code:

("compras" is the table name and "Comprasver" is the dataset name).The form also has 3 textboxes and 1 DateTimePicker.Then I created a sql query to allow the user to search within 4 fields of the table (field1, field2 and field4 get the data in the textboxes and field3 gets it in the DateTimePicker). The query looks like this: SELECT field1, field2, field3, field4, field5 FROM compras where field1 like "%"+?+"%" and field2 like "%"+?+"%" and field3 like "%"+?+"%" and field5 like "%"+?+"%" field4 is not an important search criteria, so I didn't include it in the query. Field1 and field2 are both string type. Field3 is a Date type and field4 is integer.Once I made the query, it automatically added a toolstrip with a code, which I cut and pasted in my "Search" button "click" event. But every time I try to search, no matter which criterias I fill in (even if I fill in none of them), I get an error message saying something like the conversion of the "" string into Integer is not valid (my Visual Studio version is in Spanish, so I don't know how to exactly translate the error message).It's supposed to let the user fill in one, more or all search criterias (all 4 search fields).I found out that if I delete from the query the two fields that don't have String type data, it works correctly. My startup form displays a login box and then, upon successful login, displays a series of buttons. One of the buttons displays a form named Calculator using the following

When stepping through the code after clicking the button that calls the above code, it gets Calculator.Show and then jumps to code on the Calculator form that fires when a checkbox on he Calculator form changes checked state, apparently bypassing the Calculator_Load procedure altogether.This eventually results in the following error:{"An error occurred creating the form. I'm working on a form that allows to add new users to a users table in my Access database. The table only has 3 fields: user (string), password (string) and admin (boolean). user is the primary key. But when I run it and try to add, I get an error when casting the query to Double (?). I don't have any double variables or table fields, and I'm not trying to cast anything from or to double. I am trying to load an image onto a web form depending on the image's URL path inside a database. I can get this to work, however I am trying to display a dummy image incase the record in the database has no image and the column is NULL.

I'm having the following error message with a date value in production server. "The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value" In the development server the problem never happened. Both production and development servers have the same OS (Windows Server 2003), updates and settings including the regional settings options. The regional options is set to Arabic (Saudi Arabia) and the date is customized to use (English) gorgerin calendar. The non-Unicode is set to Arabic (Saudi Arabia).

View 2 RepliesIm having an issue with a Stored Procedure I have written,I can call it in management studio and it works fine, yet calling it from my codebehind gives this error The conversion of a varchar data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range value. when i call da.Fill(dt)What is really puzzling me here is that I dont actually convert anything from varchar to datetime, the most I do with the date variables is format them into a different datetime format.

trying to get my hands wet on vs 2010 and i downloaded samples from ms site but when i tried to run some of the DB samples i received this sql error: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) any ideas how to get around on this?

Say, when you create a new record and save it, it should be saved like X002 automatically.So to test this before I implement that on this project I'm working on, I created this little program.form.png
