I`m trying to write a programme ,in VB2008 Express, to receive Serial Port Ascii data ( from a Multimeter) and display it as Hex Data in a textbox. I can get the Ascii data to show, but just cannot convert it into Hex. Once I can do this I want to write a new front end for the Mulimeter software.

View 4 RepliesA simple database has been created in Access, which is just basically a table of text, with some images as entries. A form has been created in VB2008 Express and linked to the database. Either a combibox, text boxes or pictureboxes are linked to a column form the database. The first row entries are all displayed correctly in the relavant boxes (except for the images, which for some reason aren't displayed). If another value in the comibox is selected, the other box values don't change and there is still no images visible...

Setting controls to objects allowed me to cut down on typing but it seems you are not allowed to reference things without the "full path". I understand that you now have to set the full path of the object but doesn't setting something to an object already do that? Do I have to just delete the object references on the top and instead of using objCmbGraveU2 I now need to replace it with frmMain.cmbGraveU2?

View 3 RepliesI am working on a project that will interface with a standalone device to monitor some switches etc. When certaing conditions are met, I need to send a text message to a mobile phone using a mobile phone as the modem. The standalone system is all working but I have been unable to fine solutions for sending a simple text message as an alarm etc. Most of the solutions I have found are extensive and complicated. I simply want to call a cell phone and deliver a short text message. The system does not have to receive messages at this time.

View 1 RepliesI have a VB2002 program that works. When I run it in VB2008, it updates, and runs and debugs until I shut down. When I try to start it up again from the updated SLN, or try to run the .exe in the BIN folder, I get the message "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect.
I checked the error logs and it says there is a syntax error in the first line of the vhost.manifest file in the BIN folder. The first line is the xml declaration and it includes the parameter standalone = "yes".
When I put the error message into Google I only get references to Visual C++ compiled programs running on machines without the C++ redistributable dll. That doesn't seem to apply here at all, since I have the VB 2008 express edition installed on this
Am I right in thinking that vb 2008 express does not have any charts?

This lesson adds the .mdf for the first tome. The .mdf file was unable to be opened due to some message about code 603?. The final requst is that the database be recreated. What would you suggest. Published VB program will not run on another computer yet works fine on the computer the program was written on. Message window during set-up on the other computer reads "Cannot download the application. The application is missing required files." The set-up file is being run from a flash drive.The entire error summary is included below. "Result=string$(32,0)" doesn't compile and I tried the trim function, but when I cannot use the "0" with the trim function the program shuts down with the error "Argument 'Start' is not a valid value." I have 16 student machines who can not access the windows live login during the school hours due to filtering restrictions. They need to register Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition within 30 days or the product becomes useless. The registration process wants them to login to access the keys.
