If my understanding is correct, Win 2000 only supports .NET 2.0 Framework. I am using VB2008 Express to write an app that I would like to install but I believe VB2008 Express utilizes the .NET 3.5 Framework.
Is there a way to compile my app so that it only requires the .NET 2.0 Framework? Or, more directly, is there a way to install apps written with VB2008 Express onto PC's running Windows 2000?
I have VS2010 and have targeted Framework 2.0 to work with SQL Server 2000 which works great. The problem seems to be when I go to my release folder, right mouse click on my test.exe file and click on Compatibility, then select 'Run this program in compatibility mode for' and then select Windows 2000 from the combobox. i get this error upon execution of text.exe:

As you all know programs created in VB require the .NET framework to be installed on the end-user's computer, BUT when I create my ClickOnce deployment you would think that it would automatically include a .NET 4.0 setup for the end-user... it does not. I have tried creating all sorts of installers which install the Microsoft .NET folder onto the end-user's machine, or the actual .NET executable file. None of these seem to work, even in third party installation creators like InnoSetup. When I go through Microsoft Documentation like this: "How to: Install Prerequisites with a ClickOnce Application" all I get is something I've already tried and does not work.
I need everything in one large setup.exe file. I don't care if it is going to take up so space, as long as it is in one file and everything is embedded together.
How do I package the .NET 4.0 framework AND make it install WITH my VB.NET application IN ONE Setup.exe file? If this isn't possible, where can I find the Actual Files of the .NET 4 Framework?

I noticed that there are some VB programs and config files for those programs have been placed in Windows 2000 Registry. Some other applications are using them from different servers.Why do we use registry here? How can i move these to registry in windows 2003? Can I just move these or do I have to write VB programs to place them in 2003 registry?

1. Do I have to install SQL Server Express on the Server before I can install my database on it?
2. Do I have to install Visual studio on the clients before I can install the front end?
3. Is there any online walk-through/tutorial on how to accomplish this (ie, installing a database app on a server and connecting the clients)?
I've managed to produce a simple project in vb 2010 express and to publish it onto a cd. I can install the project from the cd and run it successfully on my windows 7 machine where I developed it but trying to install it onto a windows xp machine produces the message:

I am writing a program on my Windows XP computer at home and installed Power Packs 3 so I could take advantage of Printforms I copied the project to my flash drive and brought program to my office that has windows 2000, the program wouldnt load because Power Packs wasnt intalled. Windows 2000 wont allow Power Packs 3 so I installed Power Packs 2 hoping that would work. Its looking for version 9.0.0.0.0

The standalone system is all working but I have been unable to fine solutions for sending a simple text message as an alarm etc. Most of the solutions I have found are extensive and complicated. View 2 RepliesI have been working on creating a windows service. I am using XP SP3, VB.net, VS 2010 Express, compiling for .Net 4.0 client profile. I have am using very rudimentary code templates that I've cobbled together.I have a class the inherits 'ServiceBase' and overrides the constructor, 'OnStart', and 'OnStop'. I also have another class in another .vb file in the same project that inherits from 'System. Configuration. Install. Installer' and overrides the constructor to add a 'ServiceInstaller' and a 'ServiceProcessInstaller' with the appropriate properties set for the service. The 'ServiceInstaller.ServiceName' is set to the same name as the service class and the installer class has the 'RunInstallerAttribuite (True)'attribute. Everything compiles and if I try to run the exe I get a message telling me it's a service and needs to be installed as such. but when I use installutil(.net 4) to install the service, it appears as though it was successful, but the service does not show up in the services list and I can't find registry entries for it either. I've checked the exe with the object browser and it presents the installer class with the 'RunInstaller Attribute' as it should. I included some code to create a file in the installer constructor and no file is created so I'm assuming that the installer class is never instantiated by installutil.

I can get the Ascii data to show, but just cannot convert it into Hex. Once I can do this I want to write a new front end for the Mulimeter software.

This lesson adds the .mdf for the first tome. The .mdf file was unable to be opened due to some message about code 603?. The final requst is that the database be recreated. What would you suggest. Published VB program will not run on another computer yet works fine on the computer the program was written on. Message window during set-up on the other computer reads "Cannot download the application. The application is missing required files." The set-up file is being run from a flash drive.The entire error summary is included below. A recurring line in the error message summary is "+Downloading file:///C:/Documents and Settings/username/Desktop/Application Files/filename_1_0_0_6/filename.exe.manifest did not succeed."The word "filename" is the name of my program.
