I am writing a program on my Windows XP computer at home and installed Power Packs 3 so I could take advantage of Printforms I copied the project to my flash drive and brought program to my office that has windows 2000, the program wouldnt load because Power Packs wasnt intalled. Windows 2000 wont allow Power Packs 3 so I installed Power Packs 2 hoping that would work. Its looking for version 9.0.0.0.0
i got a program i ran that says unable to install bla bla microsoft.visualbasic.powerpacks.vs version 9.0.0.0 be installed in the global assembly cache (GAC)first
I got a new laptop friday, it has windows 7 and its a 64 bit system. I installed visual studio 08. everything was fine until I opened one of my projects.Seems like the powerpacks drawing items no longer exist, there is only a pointer and reort viewer in the group now and all of the items that I have used in the past are keep my app from running.
But the install only works on the machine it was built on, if I take them out it installs but no graphs. How can I get this to install on all machines?
I include the power packs in my app, and now I encounter problems when I try to deploy it to some other Win-XP machines which do not have Visual Studio (2008), although I include its DLL inside the installation package. The DLL is "C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedVisual Basic Power Packs1.1Microsoft.VisualBasic.PowerPacks.Vs.dll" and I'm just copying it into the installation path
I wanna detect the version of installed Visual Basic Power Packs in target system. How can I do it with Registry values (Windows from Win XP)?Or, How can I check the version of Visual Basic Power Packs assembly , e.g : how I can check the version of Microsoft.VisualBasic.PowerPacks assembly ?
I've just created a setup file for my application . Instead of using the click once process , I used the Create Install Free 4.14.5 program , in order to be able to specify some parameters that under click once I couldn't (like specifying installation folder etc) . The problem , however , is that now when I installed the application , an error message appears saying that the computer is missing the Visual Basic Power Packs 9.0 (which I indeed used in my application) . So , is there any way I can add it to my setup file ? That is in order to avoid making people manually downloading and installing it .

I am working on moving applications from Windows 2000 to new server Windows 2003 R2(64 Bit). I noticed that there are some VB programs and config files for those programs have been placed in Windows 2000 Registry. Some other applications are using them from different servers. Why do we use registry here? How can i move these to registry in windows 2003? Can I just move these or do I have to write VB programs to place them in 2003 registry?
Im coding an application that needs to list all computers inside my LAN, and get the status of the machines ex. Power On, Power Off.. in order to Wake On Lan, or Turn it Off.. im using Visual Basic .Net.I all ready listed all machines, now i need to get the status of them..
For sometime now, we have developed an applicatio in Visula Basic (Express Edition). We would like to utilize the 64-bit processing power available in Windows 7 (our application runs currently in a Windows XP environment). So we are contemplating to migrate our VB application from a Windows XP-based environment to a 64-bit hardware platform running on Windows 7.
How do I set up a VB.NET program so it will run on W2K ? I understand I can only use .Net 2.0 or older. Is there an easy way to limit which .net version is used/referenced ? (I have .Net 3.5 on my XP development computer) Updating target computers to XP, Vista, Windows 7 is NOT an option.
I have done a search on Google but not really found anything. Worst case I suppose I could use "powercgf.exe -l" to list them modes then try to get the GUIDs out of that.
If my understanding is correct, Win 2000 only supports .NET 2.0 Framework. I am using VB2008 Express to write an app that I would like to install but I believe VB2008 Express utilizes the .NET 3.5 Framework.
Is there a way to compile my app so that it only requires the .NET 2.0 Framework? Or, more directly, is there a way to install apps written with VB2008 Express onto PC's running Windows 2000?
I have a small problem, I have written a small application to update a database table. Now on my computer I have a copy of the database but using MSDE 2000 and when I run my application it works perfectly, however I also have a copy of the database attached to MS SQL 2005 on another computer. Now when I got an run my application on this machine, it fails with a "Time out" error. I have changed the timeout settings on the SQL Server however it then just sits there for ages, whereas when I run it on my development machine MSDE 2000 it loops through the code quickly.
I have VS2010 and have targeted Framework 2.0 to work with SQL Server 2000 which works great. The problem seems to be when I go to my release folder, right mouse click on my test.exe file and click on Compatibility, then select 'Run this program in compatibility mode for' and then select Windows 2000 from the combobox. i get this error upon execution of text.exe:
The type initializer for 'WindowsApplication1.Module1' threw an exception.System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection' threw an exception. ---> System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnectionFactory' threw an exception. ---> System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlPerformanceCounters' threw an exception. ---> System.PlatformNotSupportedException:

The CLR has been unable to transition from COM context 0x1b3008 to COM context 0x1b3178 for 60 seconds. The thread that owns the destination context/apartment is most likely either doing a non pumping wait or processing a very long running operation without pumping Windows messages. This situation generally has a negative performance impact and may even lead to the application becoming non responsive or memory usage accumulating continually over time.To avoid this problem, all single threaded apartment (STA) threads should use pumping wait primitives (such as CoWaitForMultipleHandles) and routinely pump messages during lonunning operations.

i wana make a report in which i wana show image saved in db made in Sql Server 2000 as byte array.i've tried in sense i've make dataset and give data source to the crystal report but it doesn't show any image in report.
I have built a project using VS 2010 and I have 2 reports I am creating within the project. While in VS2010, I can debug the program and the reports work perfectly. Now I have come to the point where I want to publish my project and install it on a machine that my program will be used on. I tried 'Publishing' my project and running the 'Setup' file on the other computer and I get the following error: Unable to install or run the application. The application requires
that assembly CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.CommonObjectModel Version 13.0.2000.0 be installed in the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) first. Please Contact your System Administrator.
Doing some research, I have found out that you can manually change the GAC or have Windows Installer fix it for you. To be honest, I don't know where the GAC is or how to modify it. My ideal solution would be to figure out how to setup Windows Installer to fix the GAC and configure Crystal reports however to get my project to run on a basic machine. setup Windows Installer to install the appropriate Crystal Reports Engine so my project will work??
I have a simple Windows Service that reads from an Excel spreadsheet and imports the records into a SQL Server 2000 database table. Before it loads it checks if the file has been successfully imported before (using filename) and whether any of the records in the file have been imported before (using primary key). If these checks are ok I load the records into a datatable and then update the datatable to the database.
However, I need to do this in a transaction as I want to ignore the whole file if there is an error. The file goes to a discarded folder and the user gets an email with why the import failed. (This is likely to be because the store the record is for is not yet added to the database and the referential intergrity of the db fails). If there is no transaction the records before the failure record are imported. When the file is imported again (the store has been added to store table) the file is then rejected because duplicate records are already in the db.
I have a program to print to receipt printers and communicate with other pos hardware using the esc/pos commands and other pos device structures. It talks happily on LTP ports and COMM ports and for the last 3 years has worked well with USB printers, extracting information from the registry and connecting directly to the USB port. For all communication is uses direct calls to kernel32.dll via the win32api.The difficulty is the latest .net service packs have altered something in the communication. The USB side of the software fails to communicate on computers with .net 2 service pack 1 or above installed.
trying to print a Form that I created using a VB.Net console application. My console application creates an instance of a Windows Form and fills it with data. I then created an instance of the Print Form class from the Microsoft Power Pack and am trying to get the form I filled with data to print but no matter what I've tried it just prints the command console window.
Dim firstPage As New FrontPage 'Windows Form Dim pf As New PrintForm 'Print Form Power Pack firstPage.Visible = True
I need to be able to detect which version of Excel I have installed in my machine from some .NET code I'm developing. I'm currently using Application.Version for that, but it doesn't give me information about Service Packs.
Here is a simple class I coded inheriting SimpleShape in VBPower Packs. The events are not firing. What might be the reason? I checked the property "CanRaiseEvents" and it says "True"
i have created some shareware applications. I implemented the following mechanism for piracy protection. Before Windows Vista and Windows 7 i did write a dll file to the System32 folder with an encrypted license key. Also in the Registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE i inserted a registry key.
The problem is that with Windows Vista and Windows 7 due to the User Account Control (UAC) this is denied.
I want to ask : what other mechanism can be implemented ? Where should i store the encrypted key file and the registry key.
I want that the application can be installed for all users of a computer only once. If i stored the key in the user's application data directory then another user could easily just install it under another user account. Also i do not want to put the key file in the application directory because that would be too obvious.
note that i create the registry key with my application and not with the installer.
I have come across to develop an application for Windows 7.My program has one setting file and one LogFiles folder under the same folder as EXE. User will change some setting from Program and the values will update in this file. If there is an error, error detail will log in Logfiles/ todaydate.txt file.(Later I discovered/learnt that I should not edit/write the files to Program Files/sub folders.)So, now I'm trying to move these two files to another location. After searching a few on Net and I got the following result.[code]When I make Setup project for my application, I have to put the Setting file under one of these location. And what I found was, I only has a choice of "User's Application Data Folder" which is equivalent to My.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories.CurrentUserApplicationData.If i put Setting.ini file under this folder in Setup project, it gave me an warning of "File 'Setting.ini' should not be installed into a User's Profile folder because it may not be available to all users."
