Error Trapping And Validation Of Fields In A Form?

A user will enter a name and a text score of a student. The names and scores are saved in a list box and once they are stored I click 'show the array' and I get a parallel array filled with the names and scores.
I need to error trap the text box's so that when the user inputs a number its a number between 0 and 100. IF its not it needs to end the button click event.[code]...
What I want is a Global Error Trap that will not stop code execution. What I have found is examples where each module requires some code or a Try block. I need it to be totally generic. Everything from UnHandledExceptions to conversion errors.
If I have to use try blocks all over the place then it is not Global Error Trapping.
I need code at the highest level possible that will always catch any and all errors reported by VB.[code]...
In my code I'm using the Try-Catch functionality. All errors are written to the event viewer.I do it now with identifying the lines of code with a number.

View 18 RepliesI am using the following code
Private Sub txtAIT_Validating(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.CancelEventArgs) Handles txtAIT.Validating
If txtAIT.Text <> "" Then

In form I have a close/Cancel button, and I set Causes Validation = false, and on its Click I used "Me.Close", but form can not be closed.
Button Works fine, but form can not be closed until text field has been validated.
experience on how to create an engine using C# (VB.NET is okay too) that is generic enough to handle most cases of MS Word text fields I need to fill with data I'm getting from a database? In short, I'm about to embark on this little Office automation excursion and I'm hoping a little bit of feedback here.
View 2 RepliesI am creating a form for our new intranet and I need to have validation on a number of the fields.When I use the Visual Studio textbox it doesn't render the input out as I would have hoped.t adds large amounts of text to the value and name and most importantly it doesn'tclose the input with a forward slash - How do I get the text boxes to add this trailing forward slash and produce validating XHTML input fields?
View 2 RepliesFirst off, let me apologize for my wording. I'm a student programmer and code primarily in JAVA so my my lingo may be a little skewed.I have created a method to create text boxes in my program that all have the same properties (ie certain text, size, font, fore color, backcolor,etc.) that looks like this:

i'm doing a project for school which requires me to make a fully functioning database program with validation. I'm done with almost everything except a few things and that includes the database, since i don't really know how to make validation rules and masked fields.It's possible i'm guessing to in forms and such but in datagrid view?
View 1 RepliesI have a form on an asp.net (VB) page which has 2 sections.
All of section 1 is always required, but section 2 is optional. However, if section 2 is started, then all fields are required.
I'm stuck as to the logic I need to create this validation.
Here's my code:
<form runat="server">
<div>
<asp:TextBox runat="server" ID="field1a" Text="Name" />

iam currently working on my uni project and i have encountered a problem with valadation section.My system displays a message telling the user to input any fields that they have missed out on, listing the name of the field. However as these IF functions are in order the user must input the data in the order of how it is in the code. for example if the "consweight" is inputed and the calculate button is pressed, it thinks that all valadation above it has occured, when those fields are still empty.

I'm trying to create a table in Word using data from a table in Access. There are four fields in the access table that I need. 3 fields are text which I can populate the Word without any issues. However the fourth field is a memo with >255 characters.I'm struggling to come up with the proper code to allow me to populate the Word field with the memo data that has more than 255 characters. The code I have so far is listed below. But when it hits the memo field, it crashes on the line I marked with **. I know it's not text, but I've tried many different field types, but nothing has worked so far.[code]...
View 1 RepliesI am writing a program using a structure for the first time. The structure has 10 string variables declared inside each equal to a individual textbox on a form. I need the program to be setup so that if one or all of those textboxes are empty at the time of the event being activated a messagebox is displayed telling the user one of their textboxes is blank. Now i could do this in a series of 10 if then statements im sure but using a structure theirs got to be an easier way.
View 5 RepliesI have a user control which exposes three properties that the user can change - ValuesStart, ValuesEnd, ValuesIncrement. The default values of these are 0, 100, 10 respectively. These are conditional in that ValueStart needs to be less than ValueEnd, ValueEnd less than ValueStart and ValueIncrement greater than 0. I have put this logic into the property setter and have been testing the functionality of this through the designer and in code but when I do the following I get an error saying that ValuesStart has to be less than ValuesEnd:

To make it clear this IS homework, however this is also a method of research. i only ask when i get in binds i can not find answers to in other forums . There are so many i could spend more time[code]...
View 2 RepliesI have an app in vb net 2005 which has code similar to' start external thread ShowRandom Images.start Open database & do other preliminary setup 'abort thread ShowRandom Images. abort 99 times out of 100 I never get a problem, but if system appears to be slow or other heavy processing, I get "Thread being aborted"..How can I trap or ensure the error message does not get to my users
View 6 RepliesI am working on an app that uses a third-party charting component.It is a .Net component. There have been some occasions when exceptions have occurred inside the third-party component code, but my try/catch is not trapping them.Should they get trapped?My code is structured roughly like this:[code]I have since found and fixed what was causing the exceptions, but I would have thought that this should trap them. What happens when I run in the IDE is that it crashes and Visual Studio throws up a page telling me there is no code available to debug, and no disassembly available.Fair enough, but I repeat - why doesn't the exception get trapped?
View 4 Repliesi am creating an activeX control... in this control i want to manage what the tab key does. i may a user interface that allows tabs in the textbox or it might move the user to the next screen. i have everything working in the IDE, but when my activeX is loaded into the 3rd party application the tabs no longer trigger the key down event. i assume this is because the parent application has tab stops is there a way on a control by control basis to stop the normal execution of tabs?
View 1 RepliesI am having problems clicking a link on a page.I was thinking of trapping the click events in the web browser when I manually click the link to see if it uses any other post variables from that page or what happens when I click the link.
View 7 RepliesFor a NumericUpDown control in VB 2005, how do I distinguish between a change to the numeric value made by the user (by changing the text or clicking the up or down arrows), and a change made internally by my code? The "Scroll" event works for user changes to the TrackBar control, but not for me on the UpDown control, and the ValueChanged event doesn't distinguish the source of the change.
View 8 RepliesIs there anything I have to do to trap wheel mouse events?I have a panel and can trap the MyPanel_MouseMove events but not the MyPanel_MouseWheel events.In VB6 you needed to add wheel hook & unhook commands - do I have to do anything for VB2008?
View 5 RepliesI am executing this validation summary program in Visual web developer 2008 express edition, found the validation summary property is not visible in output.
<div><asp:ValidationSummary ID="sum1" runat ="server" ShowMessageBox="false" HeaderText="You details cannot be processed due to following errors:" DisplayMode="BulletList" ShowSummary ="true" Font-Names ="arial" Font-Size ="12"></asp:ValidationSummary>

I have a custom validator:
<asp:CustomValidator ID="QuestionValidator" runat="server" ErrorMessage="Please select an option" ClientValidationFunction="QuestionValidator_ServerValidate" OnServerValidate="QuestionValidator_ServerValidate" ValidateEmptyText="true"></asp:CustomValidator>
I have a list of questions provided by a datalist, which I need to ensure a user selects an answer to each question. I then have my validation functions:
Protected Sub QuestionValidator_ServerValidate(ByVal source As Object, ByVal args As ServerValidateEventArgs)
Dim SelectedItem As Boolean = False
For Each c As Control In Page.Master.FindControl("form1").Controls
If TypeOf c Is RadioButton Then
[code]....
When I run the page, there is no validation and no error message. Please can you point out where I am going wrong, I'm suspicious it is at Page.Master.FindControl("form1").Controls.I have previously done such validation by looping through controls via form1.controls but this is unavailable as the page uses a form passed down via the master page.
I am trying to send an email from a windows form application. I get the following error:
Message="The remote certificate is invalid according to the validation procedure."
Source="System"
I do not care if there is a problem with the remote cert. How do I tell my application disregard and send anyway. Here is my
Public Function SendEmail(ByVal strEmailID As String, ByVal strFrom As String, ByVal strTo As String, ByVal strSubject As String, ByVal strBody As String, ByVal strHTML As String) As Boolean
Dim blnSent As Boolean = False

I am trying to validate a textbox based on a dropdownlist, e.g. if ddl value is 'Day', textbox value cannot exceed 31. It seems that no matter what I enter triggers my custom validator error, what am I doing wrong,

Width="65px" Enabled="False" ToolTip="Indicates a required spending on the member's last visit."></asp:TextBox>

I am writing a User Control. Into each control I am loading a custom biz object. Because the biz object implements IDataErrorInfo interface I am able to use the ErrorProvider control on the user control.
I am binding the ErrorProvider to the biz object like this:
Me.ErrorProvider1.DataSource=MyBizObject This is all working perfectly EXCEPT. The validation is happening (and therefore I am displaying the blinkey error signs next to all feilds) as soon as the User control is loaded into the host form.
Each biz object implements a SAVE method and I want the validate to not happen until the save event is triggered on the biz object.
Basically i am trying to make a form which is in essence a switchboard. Just some buttons to launch some executables. Here is my
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click

When using WCF together with Enterprise Library 5.0's validation application block, is it possible to customize the error messages which are sent back to the client? I've added the ValidationBehaviour-attribute to my service contract and the FaultContract-attribute to the operation:
[Code]...
The service returns ValidationFault as it should, but instead of having the error message and tag which I've defined, it uses some generic values. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
