I am executing this validation summary program in Visual web developer 2008 express edition, found the validation summary property is not visible in output.

I am writing a User Control. Into each control I am loading a custom biz object. Because the biz object implements IDataErrorInfo interface I am able to use the ErrorProvider control on the user control.
I am binding the ErrorProvider to the biz object like this:
Me.ErrorProvider1.DataSource=MyBizObject This is all working perfectly EXCEPT. The validation is happening (and therefore I am displaying the blinkey error signs next to all feilds) as soon as the User control is loaded into the host form.
Each biz object implements a SAVE method and I want the validate to not happen until the save event is triggered on the biz object.

I have an unbound datagrid control I am using to store inspection information. The program records the information from the user, validates the values, and saves it into a database. It will then show the last inspection data in the datagridview. The user has the option of doublclicking a row and changing values and resaving the row. The number of rows per piece inspected varies, so that is why I used the grid to show the inspection data, however, they want to see a running total of each inspection point at the bottom of the grid so when they add the new values, it will update the running totals. I can see how to add a new column for a running total, but the layout requires the sums to be in the last row of the grid. I can add the row to the grid, but I need to make sure it stays at the bottom of the grid when I add a new row, and if possible freeze the row so it is always visible like excel. The program we are re-writting is excel based so this functionality is critical for the inspector to see the running totals for each inspection point.

I have to write a program that calculates amount due and provides a summary or rentals.Members get 10% off. The program is to calculate the Total rental price then how much the discount is and then the total amount due. Inside a Group box called summary I need the program to display the number of customers (captured each time a member number is enentered) and the total rental income after the discount. I've been trolling for a long time now and have decided to register as I finally have some time to start jumping into VB. The last time I coded VB, the current version was VB 4. I've been out of programming for a good while now and considered myself a beginner (tutorial example coder haha).
My question is: Where is a good place to start learning VB.NET?
I know it's an often asked and answered question - but let me give you a bit more information so more specialized replies might be given.
I'm in INFOSEC/COMSEC and would like to (eventually) develop a program that contains a DB of information that is read by the application and saves input information into a DB (encrypted) as well. The program will be a 800-53 C&A control assessment program; used for tracking system compliance for federal information systems. I would like to be able to develop such a tool to make my life easier at work instead of using Excel spreadsheets to track everything.
I would like to learn:
- Input / Output methods and validation (for secure coding)
- Read/Write DB Encryption (RSA or other 128-bit) for user input information
- Ability to generate PDF reports from the primary keys and data sets from the above DB
My goal is to create a program that allows a user to install the program, setup a 'master' account that a serial/key has been generated for - that master account is then allowed to create new projects (progress saved in DB). A project asks the user certain questions pertaining to information systems and takes the input and saves it into the DB (encrypted). When the assessment is completed, I would like the program to be able to generate a PDF report from the DB (from a layout template I created).

What I am trying to do: There are three powershell scripts with different time delays as shown below.I am trying to run them asynchronously in .NET and I followed this article to implement Asyncrhonous programming. Where I am stuck:The I am not able to retrieve output after the events are invoked.The scripts are being called but then the program ends and it shows "Press any key to continue" in console windows.I don't what I am missing here.
Info: JobRequest is a class that I use to pass around information keep track of jobs.

I created a simple user control and everything went fine.Then I created another of the same control (as a different project) from scratch (creating the controls in a different configuration; but pasting code from the previous one from a text file).As far as I know I did everything the same for creating a user controlCreate a Class Library project Then Project>Add New Item> User Control Then delete the initial class that was added automatically (usually named Class1.vb) Put all of my code and components into the user control class.However, when I wanted to run it in the debugger as I did in the previous project, I now get an error message:"A project with an Output Type of Class Library cannot be started directly."

My company uses control numbers to keep track of all of our inventory for every product that is entered into our warehouse.(ex.G123456789, T987654321) 1st Alphabet followed by 9 digits of numbers.Most of the time, these control numbers are scanned into the system by using a barcode scanner but some times these control number are entered into the system manually by hand.People make mistakes and sometimes enter in different control number.i want to be able to code my vb so that when the control number does not meet the critarion then program displays an error message.So i want to check for the first character which needs to be an alphabet and characters 2-10 to be a number.

I am trying to find a way to validate my MaskedTextBox control called mskDate which is a short date property. I need to determine whether the user entered a date in the MaskedTextBox control. I cannot use the Not IsDate function because what happens if the user does not make an entry, then the Not IsDate would not work because the user is not required to enter a date. What happens if the user only enters 03/? This would not be considered a date, but a valid date is required. I tried using the substring to see if an entry has been made but it does not work because of the / / format.

I have a question related to asp.net and vb.net. I have a repeater control that I bind some data to and allow users to update/change fields within certain text boxes. I added a validation control to trigger when the user doesn't enter a valid date or the text "TBD". On submit, I want to go through and highlight each field where its corresponding validator is not valid. This is my current code, but I am lost as to how to find the text box control.

If you enter 11 for instance into the year component of the date then tab off the control the text returned to the validation function is the text before the year was entered rather than the new text.The problem can be overcome by making the control invisible then visible. This has been the case since Visual Studio 2003, it would seem to be a bug.

I am writing a program using a structure for the first time. The structure has 10 string variables declared inside each equal to a individual textbox on a form. I need the program to be setup so that if one or all of those textboxes are empty at the time of the event being activated a messagebox is displayed telling the user one of their textboxes is blank. Now i could do this in a series of 10 if then statements im sure but using a structure theirs got to be an easier way.

I have a user control which exposes three properties that the user can change - ValuesStart, ValuesEnd, ValuesIncrement. The default values of these are 0, 100, 10 respectively. These are conditional in that ValueStart needs to be less than ValueEnd, ValueEnd less than ValueStart and ValueIncrement greater than 0. I have put this logic into the property setter and have been testing the functionality of this through the designer and in code but when I do the following I get an error saying that ValuesStart has to be less than ValuesEnd:

I have a form of tour application that has 2 dates, from date and To date. now i'm using the dd/MM/yyyy format for the date entry and i need to Validate To date like To date must me greater than or equal to start date. earlier days should be disable, i want to do that with compare validator.

What is the best method to do data validation? I want to do data validation when the user exits a control so that he gets immediate feedback. I can use the Validating event or the Leave event for that. The problem is, that if the user doesn't know the right answer, and just wants to click the cancel button and leave the form completely, it won't let him. It continues to give him an error message until he completely deletes his answer. Very frustrating. Does anyone have a good method for doing this?

I cant figure why the VB JIT Debugger control transfers the error to the program when I run in Debug mode and goes on in an infinited loop... I am using VB.NET 2008 and MS Access as the database backend.What I am trying to do here is that whenever I catch an exception (I have some C# code dll added to this main program and it should catch the unhandled exception and the addhandler routine will follow suit. So the moment any unhandled exception is caught MyHandler method is invoked and I need to take the backup of the database (Delete if the original file exists, copy the *.bak file as the original file name(was created during new file development) ,name it as *.mdb ) show a customized messagebox warning the user to abort (custom crash dialog instead of the standard default one)Somehow Myhandler goes in an infinite loop stop at line Globals.startBackup inside Private Sub MyHandler..Any idea on this weird AppDomain.Unhandled exception and how to prevent this from happening?
