Error Sending A Binary Object To A Web Service

Nov 9, 2010

I need to pass a block of binary data to a web service. The object I'm passing is part of an API, so the Serialize/Deserialize/Byte functions are built-in to the API class. It is not explicitly XML Serializable as far as I can tell.

Unfortunately, whenever I pass the data to my web service, even as an encoded string, the service returns a "(400) Bad Request" error. If I remove the encoded data and replace the variable with a simple string, an appropriate response is returned, ruling out authentication, service errors, etc.

'Convert the byte array into an encoded string'
Dim unicodeEncoder As New UnicodeEncoding()
Dim serializedData As String = unicodeEncoder.GetString(myObject.Bytes).Trim()
Dim webAuth As New myWebService.ServiceSoapClient
MessageBox.Show(webAuth.VerifyFeatureSet(serializedData , "", "", "", ""))

how I can accomplish this? If I need to encode the data a different way, include a snippet for decoding it on the far end.

Sending Email - Operation Timed Out / Not Sending Error

May 27, 2012

I am trying to Send an Email with an attachment (using Gmail) but I keep getting errors like "Operation Timed out" or Failure Sending Email". It was working earlier today but I found out that i needed to add Using statement because the email was having a file open that had to be deleted after it was sent but afterwards it doesn't work.

Here's what I have (Portion of it):
Private Sub SendMailOneAttachment(ByVal un As String, ByVal pass As String, Optional ByVal smtp As String = "smtp.gmail.com")
Using oAttach As Net.Mail.Attachment = New Net.Mail.Attachment((Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.LocalApplicationData) & "\" & My.Computer.Name & "_" & fName & " .zip"))
Dim client As SmtpClient = New SmtpClient(smtp)

The ports are correct I believe, no firewall up on my PC...

Sending Fax From Windows Service

Jul 11, 2011

I am trying to send the fax from my windows service which is written in vb.net. I am facing problem with windows 7 and windows 2008 Server. It works fine with Windows XP. Fax is not getting visible in fax console's outbox. I saw three files in "C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindows NTMSFaxQueue" for every sent fax but this is not visible in fax queue. I also observed that, when I am trying to send the fax from windows application then it works but anyhow it is getting failed when I am trying to send that from windows service.

I have following code :
Dim oFaxSvrType As Type = Type.GetTypeFromProgID("FaxcomEx.FaxServer")
Dim oFaxSvr As Object = Activator.CreateInstance(oFaxSvrType)
Dim oFaxDocType As Type = Type.GetTypeFromProgID("FaxcomEx.FaxDocument")
Dim sFaxServerName As String
[Code] .....

I observed that in task manager, rundll32.exe is getting started when I tried to run this code from windows application but this rundll32.exe is not getting started when I am trying to run this code from windows service. I am not getting any exception after executing this code but not able to see the fax on outbox. I ensured that allow service to interact with desktop in service console is checked for fax service and my own windows service.

PROBLEM: I want to send the emails asynchronously using threading or a windows service. I am not sure about windows service as I am using a shared hosting. But my real concern is that I want to send out the emails only when traffic is low in my site. How do I go about this? Ho do I check if traffic is low or not?

.NET Application Receiving 503 Service Unavailable Error When Calling Web Service?

Apr 28, 2009

This is a bit of unusual problem that I'm experiencing, but recently one of the users of a production application started reporting errors in the system. These were traced to a 503 Service Unavailable error when making a call to a web service used by the application.

Now here's the odd part, only the one user is affected by this issue. Other users of the application have not reported any errors. When the user logged on to a different machine that worked for another user, they still received the error.

Wcf - Connection Dropped When Sending Large Response From Web Service

Feb 28, 2012

I have a VB.net web service that returns JSON that works fine. Once the response gets to a certain size though, the client browser says that the server has closed the connection and sent no data. This is true using IE, Chrome, or Firefox. The magic size seems to be about 16383 records, or about 1.13MB of data. I know this is slightly large for a web service.

Using The Web Service References Tool 2.0 For Sending And Receiving Complex Data (arrays Of Objects) VBA?

Jul 9, 2009

I used the tool about 3 years ago to create the classes for a webservice client to send or recieve arrays as complex data. Now i have to update these classes, since there are additional informations, that have to be exchanged. When i use the tool now with the new wsdl-files, it does'nt create the classes for complex data (structur, IGCTMObjectFactory), but only one class for simple data. In addition i have to establish a new client, that sends an array of complex data and receives another array of complex data. I tried to build the classes manually combining the client that sends an array with the client, that receives an array, but I failed.

Serializing To Binary Formatter A Complex Object With WPF Classes?

Feb 17, 2012

i have a complex object that holds a WPF Canvas with many child canvases, rectangles and, lines. The object includes some home grown classes as well. The main object and the home grown classes have the <Serializable()> attribute set. I tried the general formatter.Serialize(strm, rb_x) to serialize the object to a memory stream. I then found out that WPF classes are set as serializable. So after some research I discovered the System.Runtime.Serialization and found a generic Serialization Surrogate. So after some debugging I was able to serialize the object to a memory stream then copied the stream to an array of bytes then store that array in an OLE field in an MS Access table.

When I read back the access record and copy the OLE field byte array back to a memory stream and then de-serialize it back to the object I get a SerializationException "Error binding to target method."

So question #1 - is what I am trying even possible?Question #2, (assuming #1 is yes) do I need to do something special with WPF Baml type objects.

VS 2008 - Error With Arraylist In My.Settings - Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object

VS 2008 Error - System.NullReferenceException: Object Reference Not Sent To An Instance Of An Object

Oct 23, 2009

I have recently gotten my hands on a free, open-source IMAP connection API.So far, I have been successful in creating a connection to one of my accounts.Where I'm getting stuck is retrieving folders and/or emails from those folders.Does there happen to be anyone here that is familiar with this API, or even Gmail (particularly the folder structure for IMAP)?

If not, here is a link to the DLL that is listed on sourceforge and the company's website that created it (if you feel like testing):

Koolwired
Sourceforge - Koolwired API

I have created a test account so feel free to use the code below without worrying about username/password issues; I'll just delete it when I'm done with it.Here is the code I have made so far for making a connection:

Dim gSession As New Koolwired.Imap.ImapConnect("imap.gmail.com", 993, True)
Dim gAuthenticate As New Koolwired.Imap.ImapAuthenticate(gSession, "imap_test@serysoft.com", "imap_test")
Try

[code]....

When I run that code, I get an error that states:System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not sent to an instance of an object. (The bold line in the above code).

Now, I'm not sure exactly what that means. Does that mean it tried to access the server and "INBOX" doesn't exist so it gets returned a NULL value? Or is it possibly the coding itself?Maybe the Gmail folder system is weird due to the fact they use labels (even though from what I have read online, the labels act as the folders in the IMAP system).

.net - Expose WCF Service Cannot Retrieve Object Through Windows Firewall?

May 13, 2011

I built a WCF service that exposes itself for a web application, it accepts an object and prints the data on the clients machine. Works fine on my development machine, and the service is up and running on any machine i install it on. I can enter ip address in clients machine web browser and see it is running. Problem is when i send the object to the clients machine it returns an error, that sounds like it could be because of the clients windows firewall. Where would i start at to deal with this problem ?There was no endpoint listening at http://192.168.1.168:2202/PrintLabel that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details.
