C# - Using A WebBrowser Or WebKit.Net Object In A Windows Service?
May 24, 2011
I'm trying to create a windows service that loads a website, navigates it, and pulls some information using javascript. This is all very easy to do in a windows forms application, but isn't working in a webservice (apparently because services can't access the registry WinInet Not Supported for Use in Services). Any ideas how to get it to work? Here's my code that outputs nothing:
[Code]...
EDIT: I need a WebBrowser or WebKit.Net object because I need to execute javascript on the page, and I need to maintain a login (using cookies and post data). If there's another method to do this please let me know.
I'd like to integrate Webkit.NET into a VB project, but I'm not having any luck so far. The Webkit.NET tutorial page gives a demonstration in C#, so I assume that it's possible to use this in VB.NET as well? [URL]
I added the control to the project successfully, but since I'm not familiar with C#, I haven't been able to convert the code successfully (even after running the code through a few different online C# to VB.NET converters). So... has anyone gotten Webkit.NET (or any Webkit-based browser) to work in VB.NET? Or am I just dreaming? I would love to be able to use the default .NET WebBrowser control for this project, but this project requires doing a few things that the IE browser is not capable of (but Webkit can do it easily).
I've embedded the WebKit browser in my program to use as a replacement for Internet Explorer. Well, it seems a few methods did not carry over. These are the methods I'm speaking of:
WebBrowser.Document.element.InvokeMember("click")This is not supported in the webkit engine. Is there another way I could invoke a click on an element? It has a .Focus method, maybe I could use that?
WebBrowser.Document.element.InnerText = xxx Setting a text box's text is also no longer supported. It would be nice if there was some way to set a text box's text with the web kit browser.WebBrowser.Document.element.setAttribute("theAttribute", "theValue")Same deal here. This code does not work with the web kit browser.
I built a WCF service that exposes itself for a web application, it accepts an object and prints the data on the clients machine. Works fine on my development machine, and the service is up and running on any machine i install it on. I can enter ip address in clients machine web browser and see it is running. Problem is when i send the object to the clients machine it returns an error, that sounds like it could be because of the clients windows firewall. Where would i start at to deal with this problem ?There was no endpoint listening at http://192.168.1.168:2202/PrintLabel that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details.
I have a VB.Net Windows Forms application that incorporates the WebBrowser object.I want to place the input focus/cursor in a textbox after successfully loading a PDF document in the WebBrowser via the Navigate method.I tried to set the focus (TextBox1.Focus) in the DocumentCompleted event handler, but that failed.Or, I should say that the focus does not stay in the textbox. It appears that all processing initiated by the Navigate method is not complete even when the DocumentCompleted event is fired. And, as a result, the input focus is being moved from the textbox for some reason.
I now set the input focus in the ProgressChanged event handler when the CurrentProgress and MaximumProgress event agruments both have values of zero. This is successful, but I want to be sure that I can rely on the values of the event arguments. After I use the Navigate method, the ProgressChanged event is fired 4 times with the following CurrentProgress and MaximumProgress event argument values: 0 of 10000, 10000 of 10000, 10000 of 10000 (again), and finally 0 of 0.Can I confidently rely on a ProgressChanged event at the absolute end of a successful WebBrowser navigation that has CurrentProgress and MaximumProgress both set to 0?
i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:
Warning: Type library exporter encountered a type that derives from a generic class and is not marked as [ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)]. Class interfaces cannot be exposed for such types. Consider marking the type with [ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)] and exposing an explicit interface as the default interface to COM using the ComDefaultInterface attribute.
It does not work. I have tried to call it through a class library but this does not work either as the end point is not set correctly.
Essentially what I want to do is copy a WebBrowser object such that I can do the equivalent of "Open In New Tab" or "Open In New Window" actions, maintaining any posted data. I don't just want to navigate to the same URL as in the original WebBrowser object, rather I want to repeat the HttpWebRequest.
I am trying to communicate with a Windows service on a remote machine on the network but i keep getting an exception saying the following: "System.InvalidOperationException: Cannot open Service Control Manager on computer 'machine001'. This operation might require other priviledges. ---> System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: Access is denied.
Is it possible to have a dotnet windows service which monitor other services and upon stop of any service, the monitoring service would be able to start the stopped service.
In the past I had the indexing service installed on a Windows Server 2003 and used it to index files for my website. I did this by executing an OleDbCommand with a query and a connection string. How do I accomplish the same thing with the new "Windows Search Service" (Windows Server 2008) by using VB.NET? Does this work the same way so that I only need to change the Provider name which has been "MSIDXS.1" up to now? Case true, what is the new Provider name?
I'm trying to setup a WCF web service to be consumed by JavaScript using JSON and jQuery.I've noticed that you can send JSON without a DataContract if the service method parameters match the naming structure of the JSON object:
We have a server with multiple services written in .Net 1.1 and 3.5 running on a Win 2003 server. Everything runs fine, but when we stop a certain service, an unrelated service stops. I have checked and neither has any dependencies. The service we stop is in 3.5, and the unrelated service that incorrectly stops is in 1.1. We get no error messages, nor event log errors, so we are baffled.Does anyone have an idea as to what may be causing this?
I am using a windows service and tried to copy some file as below,System.IO.File.Copy("Z:abc.txt", "C:helloworld.txt")Note: Z: is a map drive from another host in 1 LAN (same LAN)I got error, "Could not find a part of the path 'Z:abc.txt'."But when I tried it at a simple application using windows application, it works with the same code as above.
Tried to write my first Windoes Service yesterday with a certain degree of success but I couldnt install it.Upon running teh Install programme in the command line I was presented with a 'Set Service Login' window with a User ID, Password and Confirm Password text box.I attempted to use my windows login credentials but the install failed and was rolled back.Im using a computer on a company network with Win2k?
I've created a windows service and started a deployment project for it. I have the project installer class in the service project and I've added the "Standard output etc.." from the service project as custom actions for the Deployment Project. When I attempt to install it, I get the error "Specified service already exists", which shouldn't happen (even though the service does exist) because the installer should be removing the old service and installing the new one.
I've checked that the versions are different, and that the Product Code is also different, also RemovePreviousVersions is set to true. Can anyone tell me why it isn't uninstalling my old service when I update then install again? .S: MODS: DO NOT MARK MY POST AS ANSWERED, IT IS RUDE, YOU HAVE NO IDEA IF YOU'VE ANSWERED MY QUESTION!Sorry, it gets ignored in my signature.Mods
I have a .net Windows Service developed in VB.net. I have a settings file in the root directory called Connections.XML and I am setting the basedirectory [code]...
When I schedule the service this is working absolutely fine in my Windows XP machine. But when I installed the same service in our development server (Windows 2003 64 bit Server) for some reason it is not able to locate this file.

I have developed a Windows Service in VB.Net (VS2010) which is running on Windows7. I am trying to get "MainWindowTitle" for processes thru their process object but it returns empty.
I'm writing a windows service (MacTimeFix.exe) to fix the Windows time on a Macintosh (it's like this: i live in Moscow (GMT+03:00), and Mac OS thinks that the system time is GMT+00:00 and adds 03:00 to it< and Windows thinks that system time is the local time).I need to execute my code when my VB app is closed. (it happens with the shutdown of Windows) The form is invisible (hidden), and the user mustn't click anything except windws shutdown button. It is a service. When i write a Form1_FormClosing sub, it works only on Alt+F4 or CloseButton and doesn't work when the app is stopped from Windows Task Manager or whatever also.I need a way to execute sub when app is closed with taskkill (without /force) or a way to execute a several app on Winshutdown.
Here is my code:
Public Class Form1 Dim SystemMary As String Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load SystemMary = Mid(TimeString, 1, 2)

I'm printing pdf files via the below code in a service. In Windows 7 this works really well, In Windows Vista, nothing happens at all? What am I doing wrong?
I am working on a .NET Windows Service where I am trying to store settings that will be used when the service is started and while it is running. I have searched through posts on SO and found that using the Settings in the properties of the project is great for use with console and winforms applications. However, Google and SO are silent when it pertains to storing these settings with a windows service.
Is there a way in which I could invoke a windows form from a particular windows service....??
Have created a windows service, installed it and everything is working fine... Now I want to design another windows form that I would call from the service while running it I know that with the help of ServiceController class we could interact with windows service from a windows application but am not sure of the other way round implementation....
