.net - Expose WCF Service Cannot Retrieve Object Through Windows Firewall?

May 13, 2011

I built a WCF service that exposes itself for a web application, it accepts an object and prints the data on the clients machine. Works fine on my development machine, and the service is up and running on any machine i install it on. I can enter ip address in clients machine web browser and see it is running. Problem is when i send the object to the clients machine it returns an error, that sounds like it could be because of the clients windows firewall. Where would i start at to deal with this problem ?There was no endpoint listening at http://192.168.1.168:2202/PrintLabel that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details.

VS 2008 : Expose HTTP Access To A Background Service?

Dec 16, 2011

I'm creating an executable that will run as a background service.I want to communicate with this executable with a browser - similar to how you talk to sophisticated copiers in a big office.and was told to build an HTTP interface in that app.All the examples of httprequest and httpresponse I can find are about talking to web sites - or public services. How would I go about having my app "fire an event" when an async POST is made from a browser page? How do I wait on a port in the app?

C# - Using A WebBrowser Or WebKit.Net Object In A Windows Service?

May 24, 2011

I'm trying to create a windows service that loads a website, navigates it, and pulls some information using javascript. This is all very easy to do in a windows forms application, but isn't working in a webservice (apparently because services can't access the registry WinInet Not Supported for Use in Services). Any ideas how to get it to work? Here's my code that outputs nothing:

[Code]...

EDIT: I need a WebBrowser or WebKit.Net object because I need to execute javascript on the page, and I need to maintain a login (using cookies and post data). If there's another method to do this please let me know.

Check If Port Is Blocked By Windows Firewall?

Aug 15, 2011

How do i check if specific port is blocked by Windows firewall , both in incoming and outgoing connections.

I've seen code samples such as this one:

Protected Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs)
Dim host As String = "localhost"
Dim port As Integer = 6900

But how can i know if the exception is thrown specifically because of firewall blocking, and not because of other socket errors?

Use Windows Firewall To Control Security Board In .Net?

Jun 12, 2011

I am trying to control the security board using the Windows Firewall which connects to my server that was made in VB.Net. My only problem is when I open the Windows Firewall my server crashes. It also displays this error: "Error, win%fir%90y4e does not support this server. upgrade you version of Winsock.". So I upgraded myself to the latest Winsock that there is out there. After doing so I try again and my server still crashes, but this time with a different error. The error this time was the following: "Error, no client is available for win%fir%90y4e. try again later.". What do I do?

Company Firewall With System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser

Nov 22, 2010

VB2005. In my application I am required to go to a website, collect info, and then display both the webpage and the info collected. For this I am using the System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser component and have it working faily well. The only thing now is that in order to get to external websites the company requires us to login to the firewall proxy server. For example when I visit [URL] a login box pops-up for our firewall server [URL] and I sign in with ID 9999 and password "pass". I am trying to programatically do this with the WebBrowser by using the credentails but have not found any relevant examples. Is this possible with the System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser component?

.net - WCF Service Hosted In A Managed Windows Service Connect Using A WCF Service Application

Jul 14, 2011

i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:

Warning: Type library exporter encountered a type that derives from a
generic class and is not marked as
[ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)]. Class interfaces cannot be
exposed for such types. Consider marking the type with
[ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)] and exposing an explicit
interface as the default interface to COM using the
ComDefaultInterface attribute.

It does not work. I have tried to call it through a class library but this does not work either as the end point is not set correctly.

Use Windows Search Service Instead Of The Old Indexing Service To Index Files?

Jul 7, 2009

In the past I had the indexing service installed on a Windows Server 2003 and used it to index files for my website. I did this by executing an OleDbCommand with a query and a connection string. How do I accomplish the same thing with the new "Windows Search Service" (Windows Server 2008) by using VB.NET? Does this work the same way so that I only need to change the Provider name which has been "MSIDXS.1" up to now? Case true, what is the new Provider name?

Windows Service: Multiple Instances Of The Same Service Class?

May 3, 2011

When you create a Windows Service, you create a list of the services you want to start. The default is this:

ServicesToRun = New System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase() {New Service}

Can you have multiple instances of the same Service class (that bind to different addresses or ports), like this?

ServicesToRun = New System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase() {New Service("Option1"), New Service("Option2")}

Or will that cause problems? Should we use two different classes instead?

Stopping A Windows Service, A Different Service Stops As Well?

Mar 3, 2009

We have a server with multiple services written in .Net 1.1 and 3.5 running on a Win 2003 server. Everything runs fine, but when we stop a certain service, an unrelated service stops. I have checked and neither has any dependencies. The service we stop is in 3.5, and the unrelated service that incorrectly stops is in 1.1. We get no error messages, nor event log errors, so we are baffled.Does anyone have an idea as to what may be causing this?

Install Windows Service Using A ProjectInstaller And A Deployment Project ("Specified Service Already Exists")

Mar 10, 2009

I've created a windows service and started a deployment project for it. I have the project installer class in the service project and I've added the "Standard output etc.." from the service project as custom actions for the Deployment Project. When I attempt to install it, I get the error "Specified service already exists", which shouldn't happen (even though the service does exist) because the installer should be removing the old service and installing the new one.

I've checked that the versions are different, and that the Product Code is also different, also RemovePreviousVersions is set to true. Can anyone tell me why it isn't uninstalling my old service when I update then install again? .S: MODS: DO NOT MARK MY POST AS ANSWERED, IT IS RUDE, YOU HAVE NO IDEA IF YOU'VE ANSWERED MY QUESTION!Sorry, it gets ignored in my signature.Mods

Take Some Existing Classes We Retrieve From A Web Service And Hiding Public Functions?

Nov 18, 2009

[code]...

EDIT: The above class is just an example of what could be returned from a web service. I won't have access to modify it at all, sorry if I didn't make that clear. Is it possible to somehow make a clone this class, so that it retains all of the properties values, but hides the fact that there is a Public function?I'd like to be able to take some existing classes we retrieve from a web service(which we didn't write) and be able to pass them on for use in an application, but without exposing the functions. I don't want to go down the route of creating my own classes that specifically define each property and write the values in (due to the sheer size of some of them), so I'm looking to see if there is anything dynamic I can utilise (maybe there is a way using reflection?).

Writing A Windows Service (MacTimeFix.exe) To Fix The Windows Time On A Macintosh?

Jan 31, 2009

I'm writing a windows service (MacTimeFix.exe) to fix the Windows time on a Macintosh (it's like this: i live in Moscow (GMT+03:00), and Mac OS thinks that the system time is GMT+00:00 and adds 03:00 to it< and Windows thinks that system time is the local time).I need to execute my code when my VB app is closed. (it happens with the shutdown of Windows) The form is invisible (hidden), and the user mustn't click anything except windws shutdown button. It is a service. When i write a Form1_FormClosing sub, it works only on Alt+F4 or CloseButton and doesn't work when the app is stopped from Windows Task Manager or whatever also.I need a way to execute sub when app is closed with taskkill (without /force) or a way to execute a several app on Winshutdown.

Here is my code:

Public Class Form1
Dim SystemMary As String
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
SystemMary = Mid(TimeString, 1, 2)
