Sql Server - SSIS - Killing Excel.exe When Data Flow Task Fails?

May 10, 2012

How can I kill the excel.exe process in SSIS during the data flow task when it fails? There could be multiple instances of Excel.exe running from other packages that are perfectly valid so I don't want to loop through all instances killing them.My problem is that during the data flow task the process will sometimes fail due to a sheet that is named incorrectly or missing columns. This keeps an instance of excel.exe running which is now an orphan task eating up resources so it needs to be killed. At the same time there are other SSIS packages running that are accessing their own excel.exe process and aren't having any issues. So how can I kill the orphan excel.exe process without impacting the other excel.exe process?

Printing On DotMatrix Printer (Ascii Printing) - Print Wont Come Right

Dec 6, 2010

I am using VB 2008 & Access Databases for creating WinForm Applications. Also i am using Crystal Reports for Report solution. my question is How do i created reports such a way that they can be printed in faster Ascii Format on any DotMatrix printer. The default true type fonts make printing very slower.

I tried to use "Draft 10 cpi" font which come to available me after i installed a correct driver for my Epson printer. which also helped me overcome this problem. however it wont be the scenario with all my clients i.e. they might have different printers having different Make with different drivers installed. i have tried to open such project on there PC but the printing wont come in Draft instead the fonts get expanded too much & the print wont come right.

Printing An External File In Its Own Printing Routine

Apr 19, 2010

I basically have an application that generates reports in a .html file, I use a .html file for the ease of making tables and formatting text. Now I would like to introduce a way of printing the reports from my program. Because I use a .html file, the formatting would not the correct if I was to print it directly from my application (as far as I know). For this reason, I would like to print it just like my web browser would have in order to keep the tabular data intact and the text formatting.

Schedule Printing And Check First If There Is Pending Job Before Printing?

Nov 2, 2009

I'm creating an application which has an scheduler to print and it checks if there is a pending job on the print queue before it prints the next file. I use a timer which checks if there is any file to be printed on my database. Example, the timer ticks and selected 10 files to be printed, it should print the 10 files 1 at a time, if there's no print queue, that's the only time the next file should print. I think another timer is required which will keeps on checking if print queue is done. How will i do this?

VS 2010 Printing A New Line While Printing?

Jun 11, 2011

I am setting up printing (to a printer or file) in my application, and it doesn't seem to print out any new lines that I specify. Here's some of my printing

' Loop through all of the text in the array
For i = 0 To 9
If i Mod 2 = 0 Then

[Code]....

When I print the output to a PDF file using PDFCreator, it stacks all of the letters onto each other rather than creating new lines at the places I've specified. I've also tried using vbNewLine instead of vbCrLf, but I haven't had any luck. I searched the web for this but couldn't find anything about it.

Hook Excel - The Process Excel.exe Doesn't Finish After Close Excel

Jul 20, 2010

I need to access the current instance of MS Excel. To do that, I wrote the following code:

Imports Excel = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel
Imports System.Diagnostics
Private _ExcelApp As Excel.Application

[Code].....

The code runs nice, but it has a problem: After the user close the Excel application (click button X - note: no other instance of Excel exists), if you open the Windows's task manager, its possible to see the process Excel.exe.

If I open and close the Excel application, there is no process Excel.exe, but if I run my code with the Excel application openned, after the user close the Excel application, the process Excel.exe isn't finished.

.net Fails To Repair?

Sep 23, 2010

I have a VB program that I'm trying to deploy. On my machine (the app works fine straight from VS), when I try to install it from the webpage, it asks me to setup .net. I only have a choice of repairing or uninstalling .net. I've tried both but both fail at the moment. The problem with the repair is, although it goes through the entire repair procedure, it then asks me to restart my PC, but when I hit 'restart', nothing happens. So I restart manually, but when I try again, I just have to go through the same procedure again.

Asp.net - FileIOPermission Fails When There Is A '~' In The Path?

May 5, 2011

I'm catching the following error in a publishing script (VB.Net) I'm running:

Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.FileIOPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.

The code that fails is:

My.Computer.FileSystem.WriteAllText(path, content, False)

It runs fine for most of the files but some have a '~' in the path and those ones are all failing.

Just to clarify: i am using the full path an example of the path i am having problems with is "c:/websites/xml/myfile~test.xml" the ones that work are "c:/websites/xml/myfiletest2.xml"

Deployment Fails On XP Machine?

Apr 7, 2012

I have just finished my application using VB in Visual Studio 2005 and it works fine on my Win 7 development machine. But when I install and run it on an XP machine it fails with an unhandled exception:System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80040154): Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {E8D851FA-9967-4ADF-9644-0183B9B1EA68} failed due to the following error: 80040154.

I've googled the error message and the solutions seem to be 1) compile as x86 (was doing that anyway), and 2) register the dll on the machine But firstly I'm not sure which dll I need to register, and secondly I don't want to be going around registering dlls - the whole point of the installation programs is that it should just install and configure everything automatically..
