View 1 RepliesI have an application where I would like to allow the user to change one field in a datatable but leave the other ones uneditable. I am using a datagridview to do this but I can only make the whole table editable or not. The result should be an order form where you have a determined product and should only be able to change the number of items.
View 2 Repliesis there a way i can get my datatable to have multiple constraints that are attached to a unique id? an example of what i'm talking about is if i have a unique machine but it's on many lines, can i show that somehow in a datatable? the reason i'm asking is that i have code that sorts the data by line number and shows the relevant machines in a combo box based on the line selection out of another combo box. i'm having to input the data into the datatable (as a starting point for the data base) and it's very tedious. i'm entering machines that have the same name in multiple rows because the line number is different. i can't figure out how i can add multliple values into my line number column so that it will sort properly when queried.an example of what i'm asking with regard to the datatable is as follows:
Machine LineNumber
slicer Line 1, Line 2, Line 4
conveyor belt Line 1, Line 6
So that when called to fill the combo box, the correct one is called. The code i'm using to sort right now is as follows:
Private Sub linecbo_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles linecbo.SelectedIndexChanged
Dim cline As String
[code]....
This is bug in VB 2008
Dim dsExpre as New DataTable
Table has Two Fields (ExprID, Expression)
112,xyz
113,abc
Private Sub..........
Dim rsExpr as DataRow=Nothing
Dim i as Integer
[Code] .....
The Problem is, When i becomes 2, Table Data also becomes "q", Why....?
I have a dynamic query which returns a DataTable. This DataTable will contain a varying number of columns depending on the selection used in the query. I want an efficient way of filtering the records in the DataTable.
For Example The DataTable contains columns : A, B, C and D
I need to query this data at serveral points in my program. At some point I may need records where A=10 and C>40. At another point I may need records where A<10 and D=90 etc.etc. The selects are dymanmic, I do not now what Columns or values are needed until the code is executing.
I could simply use a DataTable Filter and build the selection string dynamically. I have no problem with this. However I was wondering if using LINQ would be more applicable. I am completely new to LINQ and would like to use it but don't know its capabilities.
(At present I am using a DataTable but in future this may change to a collection of Objects)
I have some code from this site CodeProjectLink to convert a datatable to a recordset. This code had been working fine until I changed to .NET 4 (was previously 2), now when I call the following line:
Dim result As New ADODB.Recordset()
result.CursorLocation = ADODB.CursorLocationEnum.adUseClient
Dim resultFields As ADODB.Fields = result.Fields
Dim inColumns As System.Data.DataColumnCollection = inTable.Columns
For Each inColumn As DataColumn In inColumns
[Code] .....
I tried changing my line to just:
resultFields.Append(inColumn.ColumnName, TranslateType(inColumn.DataType))
But this gave the same error. The TranslateType function is correctly returning ADODB.DataTypeEnum.adVarChar so this seems valid as well
Basically what I want to do is, say after I've filled my datatable(whichever fill method i used[dataadapter.fill; or datatable.load(reader)]), now the datatable has the fields i've selected albeit, "Select * from" or "Select field1, field3 from" - either way the table now has my fields. Later incode when i'm ready to access them, say "dt.rows(x)(" OR "dt.rows(x)!", right here I would like intelisense to show me the available fields for that table. I already have my clsDataTable that inherits DataTable.
View 6 RepliesI want to select column 'F1' from an excel spreadsheet and dump the data into my datatable 'oleDT'. How do I map the column F1 to the column i've added called 'colTest' ? When i call Fill, the dataTable has 2 columns, which are 'colTest' full of nulls and a created column called F1.[code]...

Cells longer than 255 chars are getting truncated, and I'm not sure if there is a way to stop it easily?
Update: The truncation only seems to happen if I select Distinct. If I leave the Distinct off it shows the full cell.
I have tried to import an Access Request in Excel. However, the last field (SP) contains Null cells and it seems that it prevents the importation in Excel. There is a way to change Null cells?

I created an e-mail program in VB2008. I have an excel file with a list of all e-mail addresses and attachments to those e-mail addresses. What I want to do is import thethe e-mail addresses and attachments into my program. I want my program to then take each e-mail address (automatically) and insert them with their attachments into their respectable fields in the program. The primary objective is to insert 200 e-mail addresses and attachments. Each attachement is significant to each e-mail address.

Issue: The .xls file has about 800 records but it's only importing about 480 records. I step through each row and find out that some rows have null values. After spending some time I believe I figured out why this is happening. My first field is a SKU value. The first x rows have all numeric values. Then it gets to a SKU like '1234-SE' and this row doesn't have data. So it's like it takes on the field type of the first data type.Question: Is there a way to order the data before I populate the dataset? I tried to do an order by but didn't work.My current code that is not working as I want.**NOTE: I have tried 'ORDER BY SKU ASC' and didn't work as well.

I accidentally submitted it before realizing that I probably should have selected the "Visual Basic General" forum. I am attempting to retrieve file properties of all files in a particular folder. I have used objFolder.GetDetailsOf... to retrieve the desired information of Excel workbooks saved in Excel 2003 format, but I cannot retrieve the information from files savied in Excel 2010 format.

View 3 RepliesI have been trying to export a DataTable to an excel file and have been hitting a few wallsI am using Visual Studio 2010, VB.Net, Windows 7 64-bit, Office 2010 32-bit. 1) I first had trouble with not closing the Excel.exe *32 process and solved that by using the FinalReleaseComObject(ExcelFile).2) When I use the FinalReleaseComObject, it re-checks the "Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange" under Excel's Options-->Advanced. Then any time I try to double-click on an Excel file, I get the error: "There was a problem sending the command to the program." Excel opens, but the worksheet I want does not. The only solution I have found to this problem is to have the DDE unchecked

im creating an application that query data from fox pro, manipulate it and export it to excel.here is the code im using to creat excel object:
Dim oExcel As New Excel.Application
Dim obook As Excel.Workbook = oExcel.Workbooks.Add
im getting excell.application underlined(error msg:new cannot be used on an interface)it get fixed when i remove New, but now im getting oExcel in second line wiggly underlined(er msg;variable oExcel is used before its been assigned a value)
I have been asked to create import functionality in my application. I am getting an excel worksheet as input. The worksheet has column headers followed by data. The users want to simply select an xls file from their system, click upload and the tool deletes the table in the database and adds this new data.
I thought the best way would be too bring the data into a datatable object and do a foeach for every row in the datatable insert row by row into the db.
I am new to programming but having fun. I have the following code that connects to my first spreadsheet fine. I am so used to working with a variable, is this the best way to get a single cell from a spreadsheet. Ideally I would like myDataArray(3) to hold the 4 cell values.

I have a database with lots of fields, some of which are still empty and are to be filled in at a later stage. Is there any way of writing an IF statement (or any other method) that will allow these empty records to be 'shown' in my textboxes in Visual Studio, without receiving the error:

i am making a simple testing application within visual studio 2010, thought im gonna be direct. in ms.acces i made a database with a few tables, this one is about the table : leden. the error indicates that i simply do not have enough values to insert into the table and i think it has to do with the ID(autincrement in acces)

View 8 RepliesPart 1 of what i want to do is on the Load Event of my form i want to look at an excel worksheet and populate a data table with the data found in the first two columns of the worksheet.
Essentially column 1 is Descriptions and column 2 is pricing
Part 2 of what i need to do is that when a user selects a description from the combo box it populates a text box with the appropriate pricing.
After doing some reading into this all i have seen is some threads on how to use Jet4.0 to link and grab the data but it is my understanding that Jet doesnt work with 64 bit OS.
Nonetheless I need to figure out a way to accomplish my end goal and make it as universal a solution as possible (ie. i do not want it to only run on 64 bit or 32 bit machines)
We have a VB 2005 program that reads data from a database and builds an Excel output file to be emailed. This works fine from my computer but when we put it on the server it fails on the Excel functionality.
The error is: Unhandled Exception: System.Runtim.InteropServices.COMException
Although Excel is not installed on the server we did also build a Setup program to install our program. It copies the Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excell.dll to the server folder with the exe.I thought the setup program should register the Excel DLL and the program should work even if the server does not have Office or Excel installed.
