Any ideas on how I handle the following error thrown in the SqlDataAdapter.Fill as a result of the BeginTrans in the callee?

Using VS 2005 and SQL Express 2005. This WinForm application runs fine on 5 out of 6 stand alone computers that is it installed on. The 6th computer is slightly older running XP sp2.As I understand it, using DbDataAdapter will perform the open, close and dispose functions for you. Therefore, Pooling should not be an issue. I am thinking that the default 15 second time out setting may be the cause?? There is some MultiThreading that will also use DbDataAdapters in the same manner but only 3-4 would be firing at the same time.The connection string is Data Source=(local)DataBase;Initial Catalog=Code;Integrated Security=True The command which throws the exception is If CodeDataAdapter.Fill(CodeDataSet.CodeTable) > 0 Then...So I am thinking that adding Connect Timeout = 60 to the connection string even though the 15 second default seems like a lifetime. Could this 15 seconds be eaten up if some other process or application takes over?

However, I've just inherited a problem and was wondering if anyone knows if I can solve it with a command line application written in .NET. Basically, we have a SAP transaction which has been written which imports data from a csv file.At the moment, it will be a manual process requiring someone to log in and run the transaction. Does anyone know if it's possible to action this from a command line app which we could then set up as a scheduled task?

My SelectCommand.CommandText is:

While working on some functions that update my database, I was writing some quick tests just to make sure my functions were executing properly. When it comes time to actually update the database I can pass a transaction to a function and then commit it:
user.Assignment("assignment value for some column in table", connection, transaction)
transaction.Commit()
I am curious if there is a way to write a quick test that can verify that the transaction will actually update certain rows before committing?

I have a program that calls on an Access Database to get it's data. I wrote a public sub to speed up the data access commands when I needed them instead of typing everything out. When I use the DA.Update(DS,"tblmain") command it works fine EVERYWHERE ELSE but for some reason it keeps locking up in one spot and gives me this (non-verbatim) error:"update requires a valied insertcommand"Here's my Public Sub that accesses the database.

I'm going through a book which is teaching me some basic coding principles of the language. The current section is detailing how to set up a master child form using two tables linked with a foreign key. The master table is displayed as a number of text boxes, and below is a grid with the child table which shows related records to whatever master record you happen to be checking out. At the top of the screen are the default navigation controls that are added with the grid. The master table is named Person and the child table Book. They are linked using a foreign key and have cascade set up on them.
The book informed me of the code required under the save icon on the navigation control so that when it is clicked both tables will be updated as required. It is as follows:

I have double checked that the code matches that shown, so this should in theory work fine. But if I manually delete a record from the Book (child table) grid and then click the Save icon on the navigation bar it comes up with the error "Update Requires A Valid DeleteCommand when passed DataRow collection with deleted rows".
Why changes made are not permanently saved to the database? I gather that it's using a "copy" of the data in the database but how do I get the code/form to make changes to the actual underlying database records as well as just the copy? I find this system very unusual, if someone deletes a record in the application why would anyone want this to be just done temporarily?

I am using the following code to run defrag and to analyze if the C: drive requires defragmentation:

This process runs through analyzing, runs it in normal mode & prints the progress to the command window.
My problem is that as soon as the process is complete the command window closes. I need it to stay open so that I can read the results.

im making a class.vb which has a sql connection. The class.vb will be used by all forms/windows on the application. So whenever a form needs to access the database, it will call class.vb.
This is the code in class.vb:

I'm designing a web service in ASP.NET and VS2008, and am using typed datasets for retrieving table data. These work well and establish their own connections through their associated TableAdapter objects. Edit: I'm using VB, BTW!I am now attempting to run a custom SQL string using a DataAdapter and a Command object, however I need to reference a Connection object in order for the Command to work. What is the best way to handle this?hould I:a) Create a global connection object using Global.asax, retrieving the connection string from web.config? I am using a CheckedListBox that is populated with Filenames (full path, i.e. C:TestTest.jpg)When I have the files that I want in the CheckedListBox I wish to click a Start Button which will process the list one at a time using an exe program that runs on the Command Line. There are arguments that need to pass to the command line as well as the file location in order for the program to process.I currently have it working but the issue is the loop finishes quickly and it is left up to the CMD.exe to finish the process. What I would like is for the LOOP to wait until each file completes processing before passing the command for the next file in the CheckedListBox.There some reasons I wish for it to work this way.
1) I would like to have a button that can Pause/Restart the Loop.
2) I would like to have a button that can Stop the Loop so the whole process can end.
3) I would like to have the Loop remove each file one by one from the CheckedListBox after it has been processed.
4) I would like to display a Message once all the files have been processed.
5) And if it were possible I would like to report the status either by text or a progress bar showing where it is at in the process.
6) And the ability to add some error handling if possible.
Since the Loop finishes so quickly as it just passes the command to the command line using the & as a seperator it is the command line that is handling the rest of the process. Because of this there is not control over it in the GUI.The code I am using allows the Command Line text to display in the Form so it won't open up a seperate window to run CMD.exe. This is the desired affect as I would like everything to appear to run from within the Form itself.

User need to select their prefferable data to show in report. What i did is i have a clear command first to delete the temporary table. The temporary table is basically a table to stored user selection parameter data. After the clear command, i have
a insert command to insert user selection data into the temporary table. What happened now is when i run the program exe, first run of the report is work fined, but not the second and the following times of execution. It will return null or blank report. The weird thing is when i execute it from development environment, it seem like the report is able to pick up user selection parameter and run the report for the first times and the subsequent execution.
