We were using the parent's FormClosing event handler to get user confirmation of the exit before continuing, but have just discovered that the child windows get closed before this is run. We only want a single confirmation message box, but I guess that would require the child windows to ask the parent to confirm.

It has to be a simple line of code but I do not know how to construct it. Using VB 2010 Express, I have a MDI parent form and many child forms. I want the parent form to determine what child form is active and load data into the RichTextBox1 on the child form. Each Child form has a RichTextBox1. The parent form gets its data by loading a file.
I am close to a solution but just can't get there. You will see in the code below, if I make a direct reference to a specific child form, it works great. What I want to do is to use the Active Form function to determine which form to write to. I have looked at the MS tutorial which gets me close.

Sub OpenToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender
As System.Object,

I'm having a bit of a problem getting my application to close properly. Basically I have one main form from which all other forms open. If a user tries to close that main form, I want to bring up a MessageBox asking if they want to exit the application.However, when I try to do that it asks the question twice. It seems that the Application.Exit() is triggering the FormClosing event again for some reason, but I don't know of another way to exit the application. BTW, the main form isn't the startup form so I can't use the option to close when the startup form closes.

I have a mdi application. When some childforms are open (but only one is active) and the user press a button, I want to know, what form is open, because depending on this, an event will fire up. I imagine this so: at first I determine the active form with a separate function. And then with a select case statement the event will be fired up. How can I make this?

I am developing a Windows Forms application. I have four forms which is inherited from Baseform in another project. In all four forms I am using a label to show some transaction count based on network status. I have implemented a thread which gets the active form of application and setting up the text. The code works fine if application screen is active. If I minimize and open any other application, I am getting an null error exception.
How do I get the active form of an application?
Private Sub StartThread()
pollThread =New Thread(AddressOf PollfileStatus)
pollThread.IsBackground =True
running =True
pollThread.Start()

I have a standard Visual Studio 2008 VB.Net WinForm application, running on Vista Business. One of the forms has a timer that passes Me.Handle to FlashWindowEx. This works as intended as long as none of the windows that belong to this application are the Foreground window. If this program is running and another application's window is the Foreground window, then it flashes as intended. If, however, any of this application's windows are the Foreground window, then it doesn't flash.

I successfully retrieve a user (call it userA) from Active Directory that exists in Domain A in the users subdirectory. I then try to remove the user from AD by doing
dim theParent as DirectoryEntry = userA.Parent
theParent.children.Remove(usera)
This fails because when I look at the parent node in a Watch Window in Visual Studio, all of its members say COMInterop.Exception.

I have a MDI form that has a child form that is opened by default when the application loads. I also automatically maximize the child form. Even though I have set ShowIcon to false, the little blank image that indicates that there is no icon appears in the upper left hand corner of the form. Is there a way to get rid of this?
Private WithEvents m_frmLineItems As frmLineItems
m_frmLineItems = New frmLineItems(Me)
mfrmLineItems.WindowState = FormWindowState.Maximized

On each of my form I have put an 'Exit' button. When user clicks it, another form is displayed (I don't want to use 'MessageBox') asking user whether he really wants to quit. If user clicks yes the form closes. If user clicks no, form is redisplayed.
However, out of 4 forms only one form refuses to redisplay. The code is exactly same on all forms. I have included 2 Express 2008 projects showing one form each in the zip file apps-ssk.zip

I am in need of a small application, that will allways be topmost and will send keystrokes to the last active application (typically notepad or an explorer window). My problem is retrieving the current active form (or application), when my application is started up. Every search seems to return old and rather complex solutions using Win32 library functions, but I was kinda hoping, that .Net allowed for a neater and more simple solution.I need a code example or link on how to retrieve the currently active application window from another application just starting up.

I have recently implemented to following code on a good deal of my forms.
Public Overrides Function InitializeLifetimeService() As Object
Return Nothing
End Function
It has worked great to solve some of my odd application hangs when the application has been running > 1 week.However, when the user closes the program I now get an Application Crash screen.how to stop this? how to put it back to "normal" with a global variable?
Public Overrides Function InitializeLifetimeService() As Object
if readytoExit then

I'm creating an application in VB.Net (.NET 2.0) I've put on Exit button on the SplashScreen. When user wishes to click on that, the application must get exited. Actually when the splashscreen is displayed, a very lenghty method is executed behind the scene. But when user presses "X" on splashscreen, i want to exit whole application irrespective of its current execution state.

I have an app which has been working fine for about 2 months. Yesterday, I carried out a maintenance session which was mainly simple bug fixing and moving my code into regions to help navigating through it. Along the way, 2 things have started happening which has totally broken my app.
MSDN states that Application.Exit does not cause the Form.Closed or Form.Closing events to fire.[URL]..However, my Form.Closing event is firing immediately after Application.Exit which is in a button click handler on the form. The code is like this:

I have a single windows form application that is running in system tray icon.If the user press X button of the windows form a messagebox is displayed with Yes and No ( Yes ->close the form---No->keep the form running in system tray icon).I was thinking to prevent the scenario when the user open another instance of the application when there is already an instance running so i have used this code :
If Process.GetProcessesByName(Process.GetCurrentProcess.ProcessName).Length> 1 Then
MessageBox.Show("Another instance is running", "Error Window", MessageBoxButtons.OK,
MessageBoxIcon.Exclamation)
Application.Exit()
End If
The problem is that when i want to test this the message is displayed but after i press ok, a new messagebox appears (that one from Private Sub Form_FormClosing ).If i choose NO i will have to instance running!I have read that Application.Exit fires the Form_FormClosing event.Is there any possibility to cancel the triggering of the Form_FormClosing event?'this is the formclosing
procedure
Private Sub Form_FormClosing(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.FormClosingEventArgs) Handles Me.FormClosing
Try
Dim response As MsgBoxResult
response = MsgBox("Are you sure you want to exit", CType(MsgBoxStyle.Question + MsgBoxStyle.YesNo, MsgBoxStyle), "Confirm")
[code]....
