View 3 RepliesI'm developing a program using VB 2005.I've tried to use the following instructions to "kill" the application
Application.Exit()
Environment.Exit(0)
(not at the same time)

I need to convert the following code to work in a visual studio 2008 windows form application, the moment ObjectQuery, ManagementObjectSearcher, ManagementObject and ManagementObjectCollection are not valid.
im objectQuery As New ObjectQuery("SELECT * FROM Win32_NetworkAdapter WHERE NetConnectionId IS NOT NULL")
Dim searcher As New ManagementObjectSearcher(Scope, objectQuery)
[code].....
When a user clicks on the little red "x" a.k.a. the form close button on the form command bar, what even is activated besides FormClosed()
I know FormClosing() is called, but I cannot really stop the form from closing after my code is run. I want to be able to show a messagebox that asks if the user wants to exit the form or not. Obviously if they click no, I want the form to stay open, how would I do this?
I have just done my program, just skeleton not completely, the final problem has not been solved up to this time.When I run my application, the Icon of its will be showed at TaskTray. I would like the icon is there when I exit fom of application and then If I double click on the Icon, the application will be showed.

View 3 RepliesI'm having a bit of a problem getting my application to close properly. Basically I have one main form from which all other forms open. If a user tries to close that main form, I want to bring up a MessageBox asking if they want to exit the application.However, when I try to do that it asks the question twice. It seems that the Application.Exit() is triggering the FormClosing event again for some reason, but I don't know of another way to exit the application. BTW, the main form isn't the startup form so I can't use the option to close when the startup form closes.

View 1 RepliesI have been developing windows and web application using Visual Basic 2005 for a long time. Now i want to change from Visual Basic 2005 to Visual Basic 2008. I would like to know what ever projects i have done in visual basic 2005 will works in Visual Basic 2008. Will the existing code in visual basic 2005 supports Visual Basic 2008 or do i need lot of modification. I haven't used VB 2008 but i hear that most of the code which written in visual basic 2005 supports visual basic 2008. What are the things i need to take care when working the existing projects in visual basic 2008.

View 4 RepliesI am working on a Windows Forms application which is primarily to be used as a command line application with an optional GUI in the case where no command line options are specified. The program is intended to be a lightweight version of a larger program, intended to perform a couple of very specific tasks without requiring all the initialization required in the larger program.To this end, I am planning on using Me.Startup in applicationevents to process the command line options and determine if the Startup form should be displayed or not. In the case where the startup form should not be displayed, what is the method to close the application from within Me.Startup Application.Exit, Me.Close, and others are not available from within Me.Startup. My searches online have shown that I can use e.ApplicationExit() from Me.UnhandledException, but this method is also not available from Me.Startup.if anyone has any better ideas on how to accomplish what I am trying to do, those comments are always welcome.
View 3 RepliesOn each of my form I have put an 'Exit' button. When user clicks it, another form is displayed (I don't want to use 'MessageBox') asking user whether he really wants to quit. If user clicks yes the form closes. If user clicks no, form is redisplayed.
However, out of 4 forms only one form refuses to redisplay. The code is exactly same on all forms. I have included 2 Express 2008 projects showing one form each in the zip file apps-ssk.zip
I have a basic three form application. It doesn't seem to close after navigating through forms. If I were to open the application, and the main form is displayed. If I press the X button, the application closes fine(Goes from processes) If I were to open the application, and then navigate from the main form to another form using me.hide & form1.show, and press the red X on Form1, the application again, closes fine.

When I run my application and click the exit button, in debug mode I can still see my application running. How can I stop this? I don't want to forcefully end the application, I would like to find out what section of code is still running so I can end that instead abruptly ending the program.

View 2 Replieshow to generate code from user input. In Visual Studio 2008, Visual BasicI am new to this so I will try to explain the best I can.[code]I would also like to have these available on the UI but wont generate unless a user checks a box to add them or there is a box already for them but wont step into the code unless the user enters something into the box.Is there anyone that can explain how I would go about doing this. Or maybe some kind of visual studio plugin that will help me out. Or reference?I don't need anyone to do this for me I just need an explanation of how to do this or some kind of reference. Would this be a text template?
View 2 RepliesHow to generate code from user input. In Visual Studio 2008, Visual Basic. My script always begins with:
Code:
function Init(Quest)
Then from here a user would input a quest name, type and zone in a interface using windows forms.
Ex:
Code:
RegisterQuest(Quest, "Kill Zombies", "Heritage", "Firestorm")
end
This part a user would enter in his interface what would an NPC say if accepted.
[Code] .....
What I need is a few text boxs that a user can input "Kill Zombies" or whatever they like and when they push a generate button it will create a file with a .quest extension. All of the code remains the same except for the quotes that would be the user input from the interface. Basically everything in quotes can be changed by the user in an interface. I have created my own functions for when a user accepts, deny and complete a quest. The user just needs to input what should happen then click a generate button to throw it all together as a .quest file to be saved in his or her quest folder for the server to call on later.
I also have many other functions like:
AddQuestRewardFaction --- (Quest, Faction ID, Amount)
AddQuestRewardCoin --- (Quest, Copper, Silver, Gold, Plat)
AddQuestStepObtainItem --- (Quest, Step ID, Description, Quantity, Percentage, TaskGroupText, Item ID(s))
Etc
I would also like to have these available on the UI but wont generate unless a user checks a box to add them or there is a box already for them but wont step into the code unless the user enters something into the box.
i was wondering if i can copy my application to the startup folder in windows when the form loads. The path i want my app to copy to is: C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersStart MenuProgramsStartup

View 7 RepliesI am trying to close my application and I have coded on the form closing, form closed events to call an exit form which asks the user for confirmation to exit or not. All works fine. When I press the X button on the winform things act different. On the main form where I press the X btn I store some user ID data that I use throughout the app. If I press cancel on the exit form that data is lost from the main form and cannot be used afterwards. So if the user pressed by mistake the X btn and then presses cancel on the exit form the application loses some stored data and many functions stop working.

View 2 RepliesI have a VB.Net project that I am running from a local server and I need to use the credentials the user is currently logged in with to upload a file to a folder I create on a SharePoint site on the same domain. I can get it to upload if I specify the credentials but it will not work with system.net.credentialcache.defaultcredentials. It just gives me 3 empty strings and I get a 401 unauthorized error. I have seen a few threads that say you cannot use it with Windows Forms Applications. Is this true? Here is my code:

View 2 RepliesI have a console application code below. I am trying to convert this to a windows based form application but I don't know where to start. This code asks you to input a website and then it gives you the IP address for that particular website the user enters. All the code works fine but I want this in a windows form application.

using System.Net;
using System.Net.Sockets;
class GTest

I am creating a program that interacts with another program and I would like to "inject" my program into this program as an MDI Child window. Is this even possible, and if so can it be done in VB.NET? What kind of pitfalls are associated with doing this?
