I am creating a program that interacts with another program and I would like to "inject" my program into this program as an MDI Child window. Is this even possible, and if so can it be done in VB.NET? What kind of pitfalls are associated with doing this?
View 1 RepliesI have a MDI form that has a child form that is opened by default when the application loads. I also automatically maximize the child form. Even though I have set ShowIcon to false, the little blank image that indicates that there is no icon appears in the upper left hand corner of the form. Is there a way to get rid of this?

The application was written in Visual Studio 2010 VB, Win form app.
The requirements are as follows:
1.) run the application at start up
2.) no icon
3.) always in focas
4.) always runs in the background.

I Have one Windows Application in which i have one MDI Form (Say App1). And I too have another Windows Application in which I have a Child Form (Say App2). So now i want to Call App2 from App1 .. I am developing a small windows application(vb.net).In that i want to have parent child relations in a gridview control. There are lots of examples available on this, but they are using two gridviews for that, but in my case i want the relation to be displayed in a single gridview control itself. When they click the + sign immediate row should populate child rows with it's own header(ie child rows has it's own header which is different from parent header). In my case parent row has 2 columns and child row has 4 columns.

Long story short, I had issues with focusing the control if I opened IE on top of my program without minimizing the program. Once I reactivated my program and closed a child window, IE would show again instead of my program. I fixed this by setting the owner of my form.
Now I have another issue. After setting the owner, the parent (text) name of my form is now being shown at the top of the application when a child screen is open instead of the parent name. How can I fix this to show only the child's text form name when a child screen is open?
I have a software called Portal sold by Synapse Inc. It is basically software which interacts with microcontrollers.I need only some of the features of that software for my use. So i am thinking of developing a GUI which can emulate those feature and interact with the microcontroller. Am i going in the right direction in starting to develop the GUI?

View 3 RepliesI've made a Windows Forms Application that runs fine. It has some buttons that open child forms, which can simply close again without any problem. As I need the form to be in a dll, I changed the application type to a class library and added an extra project containing an exe-file that only references the main form in the dll and shows it. So far so good...
The main form is basically a tabcontrol with a bunch of controls, buttons among others. Five buttons on different tabs use the same handler to open a child form. When I click the button on the first tab everything works fine. The form opens and when it closes, only the child closes. When I click any of the buttons on the other tabs, the child form opens and when it closes again, both the child and the main form close...
I am stumped, especially since all buttons use the same code to open the child form and everything appears to be completely identical, yet the results are not. Below I have pasted the code that opens the main and child forms. I am undoubtedly not looking in the right place, but I also have no idea where to look anymore, let alone what to look for...

View 1 RepliesI have a NET (version 3.5) Class Library written in VBNET 2008 (on Windows 7 x64) that will at times display a WinForm. The class lib will be used in Excel, and I want to set the NET WinForm to be a child of the Excel Application window. If I weren't using NET, I would just call the SetParent API function, but I can't seem to get this to work since WinForms (I assume) don't have a HWnd suitable for SetParent. I'm sure this is possible, but I just can't find the right properties and methods. The WinForm will be shown modelessly so the user can switch back and forth between Excel and the displayed WinForm.

I use SetParent to make an external application a "child" of my Main .Net application. This works fine.What I need to know is why can't I use Me.MDIChildren(0)I thought that using SetParent would increase the number of children by 1, thus allowing me to reference it with the above code, but it shows there are no children in the array.I have been trying, without luck, for 2 days to try to maximize an external app being displayed in my app. I can get it to display, but I would love it if it could Dock to the same size as its container (a panel)

The only problem I have is that some of the functionality of Excel is essential to the application, such as R1C1 formulas. I do not want to instantiate the Excel application or access saved worksheets. All of the data is retrieved by querying Oracle databases. 2-Dimensional arrays are not an option because the columns contain differing datatypes, and DataGridViews are too slow to work with.
I thought simply dimming a Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet object would be enough, but the program kept failing and upon inspecting the object's elements in debug mode, I found that every value says this:

I have seen this happen before but am not sure how I resolved it in the past. On runtime the controls of my form change from the windows 7/vista format to an older version format as shown in the attached image.

View 2 RepliesI have a VB.Net project that I am running from a local server and I need to use the credentials the user is currently logged in with to upload a file to a folder I create on a SharePoint site on the same domain. I can get it to upload if I specify the credentials but it will not work with system.net.credentialcache.defaultcredentials. It just gives me 3 empty strings and I get a 401 unauthorized error. I have seen a few threads that say you cannot use it with Windows Forms Applications. Is this true? Here is my code:

In all four forms I am using a label to show some transaction count based on network status. I have implemented a thread which gets the active form of application and setting up the text. The code works fine if application screen is active. If I minimize and open any other application, I am getting an null error exception.
How do I get the active form of an application?

I have a chart on the form, and I would like to be able to right-click, copy the chart and then paste in,say, Microsoft word. At the moment I have created a contextmenustrip which appears when the user clicks on the chart, but I am unsure of the code necessary to actually copy the chart and hold it until pasted into a different application.

View 5 RepliesWhat is the proper way to terminate a Windows Form application while it is just executing in the MyApplication_Startup routine?I have an application that looks for a database file upon startup. If it does not find it I prompt the user and ask if they wish to locate the file or not. If they choose not to locate the file I want to just terminate the application. Currently i just execute the "End" statement, but that does not seem like the proper way to terminate a program.
