I have a software called Portal sold by Synapse Inc. It is basically software which interacts with microcontrollers.I need only some of the features of that software for my use. So i am thinking of developing a GUI which can emulate those feature and interact with the microcontroller. Am i going in the right direction in starting to develop the GUI?
View 2 RepliesI have developed a windows application for my company. It is a multi user software and we are using sql 2008 as the database. The sql 2008 is installed in our company server. Within our LAN, there is no problem in accessing the software and its working pretty fine.
Now the problem is, some of the managers need to go out frequently(for business tour and all) and they need access to this software. The software is already installed in their laptops.Is there any way to access the database that is in our company server ???
We have few static IPs with us, is there any way i can use that here (Using NAT in the firewall or something)?
Final step in my application. I finally got all the requirements working, but now I need to have the application run in the background.
The application was written in Visual Studio 2010 VB, Win form app.
The requirements are as follows:
1.) run the application at start up
2.) no icon
3.) always in focas
4.) always runs in the background.

I Have one Windows Application in which i have one MDI Form (Say App1). And I too have another Windows Application in which I have a Child Form (Say App2). So now i want to Call App2 from App1 .. And want to Display App2 form As MDIChild in App1 MDI Form . I am Able to open the Form of App2 , But how to set It As App1' Child .

The only problem I have is that some of the functionality of Excel is essential to the application, such as R1C1 formulas. I do not want to instantiate the Excel application or access saved worksheets. All of the data is retrieved by querying Oracle databases. 2-Dimensional arrays are not an option because the columns contain differing datatypes, and DataGridViews are too slow to work with.
I thought simply dimming a Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet object would be enough, but the program kept failing and upon inspecting the object's elements in debug mode, I found that every value says this:

I have seen this happen before but am not sure how I resolved it in the past. On runtime the controls of my form change from the windows 7/vista format to an older version format as shown in the attached image.

View 2 RepliesI have a VB.Net project that I am running from a local server and I need to use the credentials the user is currently logged in with to upload a file to a folder I create on a SharePoint site on the same domain. I can get it to upload if I specify the credentials but it will not work with system.net.credentialcache.defaultcredentials. It just gives me 3 empty strings and I get a 401 unauthorized error. I have seen a few threads that say you cannot use it with Windows Forms Applications. Is this true? Here is my code:

In all four forms I am using a label to show some transaction count based on network status. I have implemented a thread which gets the active form of application and setting up the text. The code works fine if application screen is active. If I minimize and open any other application, I am getting an null error exception.
How do I get the active form of an application?

I have a chart on the form, and I would like to be able to right-click, copy the chart and then paste in,say, Microsoft word. At the moment I have created a contextmenustrip which appears when the user clicks on the chart, but I am unsure of the code necessary to actually copy the chart and hold it until pasted into a different application.

If it does not find it I prompt the user and ask if they wish to locate the file or not. If they choose not to locate the file I want to just terminate the application. Currently i just execute the "End" statement, but that does not seem like the proper way to terminate a program.

View 2 RepliesI am in the process of developing a messaging framework for a windows application that sends messages to a java application. To be precise when the win app wants to send a message it simply drops the message in a common database table which will be picked up by the java app. The windows application is deployed across 10 application servers (10 instances) over citrix for load balancing.Each instance of the application is capable of sending a message to the java application and each of these messages should have a unique id. From my end I need to make sure every message generated has to carry a unique id so that they can be identified when necessary. All the messages can be cleared every day or two.i am not quite sure about a best method of achieving this. Initially I wanted to create a static method that serves the next available id (incrementing the last id by 1). But this approach willn't guarantee unique number as the application starts only when at least one user is logged on. For e.g .On one server the app starts when a user logs in, he then sends a message and then the application stops when that user logs off. So when a next request for the app comes to that server a new instance will be started.

There is a drop down where you can select options to change the criteria of the report. I wish to convert this app to a windows executable which will take all those select options and generates pdfs based on the crystal report. the executable will be triggered by windows task scheduler...or maybe command line app?
Obviously this will be somewhat of a re-write. What would be the best way to start this as? a crystal report application or a windows application.
I have a windows forms application written in VB.NET which scrapes information from serveral web pages (who doesn't right)? Anyway, I am having problem with one particular site where partway through the page navigation my application hangs. When I press pause (or break) in the debugger, it stops on a call to System.Windows.Forms.Application.DoEvents.
Resuming execution shows that it really is stuck on this line (it does not reach the next line of code). It also hangs about the same point each time I run it (at least its consistent). Since System.Windows.Forms.Application.DoEvents yields to other threads on the same processor and then resumes execution of the current thread, I think the problem is that some other thread is not behaving well (not returning from some event handling code). I thought Windows 7 was pre-emptive, which makes me
doubt that theory but I really don't know.

The program scrapes somewhere between 12 and 14 pages before it gets stuck on the call to DoEvents. Does anyone have a clue why this would happen? Why would any call to DoEvents hang?
i made an application for serial communication. for this application i need to set delay time. during this delay time i m doing some other task. So for those task i need to take back control from delay function, for this purpose i am unsing Doevents() function.Its work fine On other OS (XP, Windows7 32/64-bit). But Application.DoEvents() function halt and crash in windows vista.
