Extract Text From A String If It Contains Specific Text
Sep 29, 2009
I need to extract the whole string if the string has today's date on it. I have already coded a string that displays today's date in the following format - yyyy/MM/dd And I've coded the parsing links bit, now I need to simply search the Listbox and return the first string with the date. [Code]

I have found the above code from the net and it works fine as I would expect. I know this because I have added a put the String StoreFile into a text box and it worked. From what I understand about the code above is that we are reading the file test.txt until we reach the end of the file and we are storing it into a string.
What I would like to do is either:
1. Search the String StoreFile until I find the text of my choice, and then extract the characters around it. See attached txt file.
For example, if I wanted to search for MNAUSD in the attached txt file, I want to grab the values on the line (highlighted in blue) and make them available to my program and ignore everything else.
"MNAUSD",UNITED STATES,US $,M,1.558850,1,1.369850,1.113500,L
I know these files are comma delimited, but I would rather use a regular expressions if possible as I have other files that are not comma delimited, so it would be ideal if I have a regular expressions to handle the search and extract
OR
2. Search the File test.txt LINE BY LINE, until I reach my search text MNAUSD and then extract the same values as above.

Is there any function similar to string range in vb.net 2.0? What I am try to achieve here is to extract some text from a string with unknown length. eg. given string = text text text mytext1 text text text text mytext2 text text text text expected string = mytext1 text text text text mytext2 So I have the indexes for "mytext1" and "mytext2". I am looking for a way to get the text that wrapped in between those two strings or indexes.

There's an INI file that I want to access and read information from. This is the complete content of the INI file in question: http:[url]....I believe it is because of the [ ] tags in that INI file. Because they work if I remove the tags.My program has a bunch of comboboxes, trackbars and checkboxes. These items will be filled by the information taken from the INI file.For instance, ini file has these lines;
bCrosshairEnabled=1
bDoDepthOfField=0
bFXAAEnabled=1[code]...
Example: I want the checkbox8 in my form to get checked if bFXAAEnabled has a value of 1 or unchecked if it is 0.

My problem is to extract some specific string from the web script by RegExp, e.g:
1. <TD title="ABC - SDC">Home Furniture</TD>
- I want to extract "Home Furniture" from here.
2. <TD><INPUT class=ID="( 8352623 ) Demark" value="( 8352623 ) Demark"></TD></TR><!-- <tr> -->
- I want to extract "8352623" from here, can be any of them.
How can I write a RegExp to match them?
And I am getting one solution but work out in C#, obviously it's not working in VB, so anyone does me a favor to translate them in VB structure...
string pattern1 = @"<([tT][dD])[^>]*>(?<between>.*)(?=</1>)";
string test1 = @"<TD title=""ABC - SDC"">Home Furniture</TD>";
if (Regex.IsMatch(test1, pattern1))

I have a text file I'm trying to pull specific data from to make a report in excel and am wanting to know if my code can be improved or if I have something wrong. If it's apparent to anyone that I should be doing something elThis code does work but, very slow. These reports take up to 20 minutes for about 100 files so I am wanting to decrease the time somehow. I have attached the whole sub in a text file, it's about 900 lines long so don't think I should post all of it. This is one part that seems to take the longest:Partial code that reads the text into a string, then each line is read to find whether it holds the data or not. Inside this while loop, I am checking numerous lines to see what they hold and extract specific items. First I verify it's a interface by checking for "line protocol".
Dim str As StreamReader = File.OpenText(filefound)
While (str.Peek <> -1)
If txtLine.Contains("line protocol") = True Then 'Found an interface,

MyProcess.StandardInput.WriteLine("host " + device)
The output of which is
"HostA has address Y.Y.Y.Y"
this along with a whole bunch of other text is saved to a text file...my question is how do I find the sting "HostA has address Y.Y.Y.Y" in that text file and then extract the IP address and assign it as a string variable?

I've been writing a weight program for flooded pressure vessels and I'm having trouble retrieving the data from the text files I've been saving. I know how to write the data to the text file, but retrieving it with OpenFileDialog is not so easy for me.The user has individual text boxes that they input strings or numbers into and when they save the file, each text box input is written to one line in the text file. For example, the first text box is for the username, therefore the first line of text that is saved is the person's name, the second text box is the customer, thus the second line in the text file is the customer name, and so on.
(Actually, the first line of text in the saved file designates whether English units were used or Metric units because when the user retrieves the saved file, English units will open one form and Metric units will open a separate form, so some If...Then statement will need to occur).I need to be able to read the first line, have either my "EnglishForm"form open or my "MetricForm" form open, and then have each subsequent line of text be displayed in their corresponding text boxes. I know I need to use ReadLine or LineInput, but I don't have a clue what to do.Assuming the syntax I've displayed below would just magically work (if only life were that easy), it would look something like this
If FirstLineOfTextInFile = "English" Then
EnglishForm.Show()
ElseIf FirstLineOfTextInFile = "Metric" Then[code]....
And so on...I read a lot of articles from the MSDN library and exhausted each link that I've looked through from Google and Bing, but most only retrieve data from the file to a single text box through some loop or streamreader and don't take into account multiple forms.

What I am doing is creating a simple login and register system. I am going to save the information of each user into a text or ".dat" format and have them placed into a folder called "accounts".The small problem that I have is the "Forgot Password" option. I can't think of how to search all the documents for the e-mail or the username.So basically I need to know if it is possible to do a small search for the e-mail through all the documents in the "accounts" folder.
-I know another option may be databases...but I don't completely know how to use these.
-I have general knowledge of arrays

I have a little question about txt-files...This is the case: I am going to make a small software for editing particular parts in text files, so you don't have to do it by hand. In this program, i need to find several words in a text file and retrieve the text or number that is after the the "="-sign, and then replace that info. Then, I want to use the information it retrieves to add some text in the end of the file.
P.S. There are 36 differet words to search for, and some of them will occur in several places, so i want the data from those words that occur several times in an array. And the data i want to retrieve is AFTER the searchword and a "=", so i dont want the searchword or the equals-sign included. Can someone explain to me how to do this?
