I wrote a function that returns the number in a particular field, my issue at the moment is how to update that field before i return the previous value i collected from the field. i am seeking any guidance available. Enclosed is the function i wrote.

I would be grateful if someone can help me with this task. I am trying to extract a zip file and update a progress bar as it is being extracted to the d: drive. I assume the progress bar has to be set to the size of the text.zip file and update the progress bar incrementally but not sure how to actually implement it. I have it in a "do Loop" but it does not seem to be correct. If anyone feel like helping I would be grateful for that.

I was just wondering how to extract or parse any particual tags (whichever I specify) from webpages. I know how to extract text and links from webpages, but I tried to use the same method from the following code for div tags, title tags etcetera and it doesn't seem to work:

Here is what I did.
1. Went to data source window and clicked "add new data connection"
2. Choose Data Base clicked next
3. Clicked Create Typed UserInformation as the name
4. Next.... Under Data set name I typed UserInformation again
Does naming the database and the data set the same cause problems?
5. Created New Table called users for UserInformation Database.
6. I added the following Columns: FirstName, LastName, Address, and Phone
7. Edited the table to add a couple of people. Tom/Franks/108 blah street/5555555 and Bill/West/109 blah street/5555555.
8. I also reconfigured the data connection in the data source window to show the users table.

I am trying to write a fairly basic program that uses a database of English words and their German equivalentsto be a sort of quiz. In the database i have three collums, ID, English and German. Here is an image of my table data and design I am trying to read some values from a database using the oledb dataset however when I run the sql command and get down to outputting the value I am greeted with the following error: "IndexOutOfRangeException: There is no row at position 0.". Yet when I run the very same sql command in access I get back the data I wanted.When I am running the above code, no errors are produced until I get down to the last writeline where I want to output my data.

There is something wrong with my codes. I don't know why it isn't updating the records.If I activated the line dt.Rows.Add(newrow) it will just create an error on da.update(dt) line QuoteThe changes you requested to the table were not successful because they would create duplicate values in the index, primary key, or relationship. i have published my website...its a dynamic site..so i have database connectivity..now i want to make an application in VB to update my database using my application..i mean i do not want to login to the site and update my database rather update it using my application..i want to connect my application to the database of the published site and update it from anywhere i want using the application...is it possible??

I've seen similar problems posted on this and other boards, typically with a bunch of code checking before its realised that that database itself is being copied to another directory and run from there. Apparently this is managed via the database properties, copy to output directory settings. In my case I have tried all three options, with no change in result. After "saving", inspection of the actual database via the server explorer shows no changes have actually been committed.
I am getting to a point where I need to start entering large amounts of data into the app and have at actually save to the db for deeper testing.
I noticed this behavious first when using an .accdb and it has persisted through my exploration of SQL(.mdf)

I'm having a database, using GridView I retrieve the data into my WEB application.Then I set the rows to editable (not sure if it is fully completed) and when I edit some cells I want to update the GridView AND the database behind.When I click on 'edit' then the button is changed to update. I get some unhandled exception. I don't expect anything else since I didn't put any code in the update methods like RowCommand, RowUpdating, RowUpdated, RowDataBound.

View 9 RepliesI am trying to add records to a SQL database from a form in Visual Basic. When I first started my project, I was using a MSAccess database, but decided to switch to a SQL database. I have updated all my data connections and everything seems to be working fine. I can view the database from the project, even run parameterized searches with no problem.
WHen I try to add a record, there is the problem. I can add information, get a "update sucessful" message, and no information is added to the database. if I hit the button again, it even tells me the event failed because there is already matching information in the database. here is the code i am using to update the database.
