FedEx Address Validation Web Service
Nov 2, 2009
I'm trying to get started with Fedex'es Address validation service and I'm running into a road block with FedEx's own demo application. [code] It seems to send the request object to the web service, but the"reply" object is returned with "Nothing". I could understand if I wrote the code, but good god... they can't even get their own code to work?

I have been using a function to validate email addresses for awhile now. Yesterday i discovered that the code indicates that 2 different email addresses are invalid when in reality they are perfectly fine.
The code uses RegEx to determine if an email address is valid. I have tried to understand RegEx, but I can never seem to figure it out. Here is the
Private Sub btnCheckEmail_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnCheckEmail.Click
If ValidateEmailAddress(txtEmail.Text) = True Then
[Code]....
How can the RegEx be re-written to allow the local part (before the @ symbol) to be 1 character, and/or be a number? I understand the "a-z" part, but i don't understand what [w.-] means, or why the a-z is duplicated before the @ symbol.

I made this small location class so that I can better handle address information which I am going to be sending off in requests to the Google Maps API. One thing I have left to do is some validation to make sure that the address has enough information to return a result back. For the application, the level of accuracy should be as loose as a single City (meaning that it should work as long as a zip code or city/state is provided since it will find the geographic center of that area automatically in Google Maps)

I have a txt box that askes a user to enter his email address and I want to make sure the user enters a correctly formatted email.
The code I have so far is like this
If txtEmail.Text = "" Then
txtEmail.BackColor = Color.Pink
MessageBox.Show("Please Enter your Email")
Exit Sub
Else
txtEmail.BackColor = Color.White
End If
How I can modify this code to make it work and is regular expressions the same for all programming languages? Also for my mobile number text box I only want a user to enter a 10 digit number with only integer numbers.
The code I have so far is
If txtNumber.Text = "" Then
txtNumber.BackColor = Color.Pink
MessageBox.Show("Please Enter your Mobile")
Exit Sub
Else
txtNumber.BackColor = Color.White
End If

My Regex works, except if the email address entered has an underscore character (_) in it.
Because of my lack of experience with regular expressions, I'm not sure where in my pattern I'm supposed to add the offending character to allow it:
Dim pattern As String = "^[-a-zAZ0-9][-.a-zA-Z0-9]*@[-.a-zA-Z0-0]+(.[-.a-zA-Z0-0+)*." & _
"(com|edu|info|gov|int|mil|net|org|biz|name|museum|coop|aero|pro|tv|[a-zA-Z]{2})$"
He said he fixed it by adding the _ after the numeric check.
I see the A-Z0-9, but I'm not sure which is the numeric check...

The app I am writing deals with utility service addresses, and right now I am forcing the user to know enough to separate the parts of the address and put them in the appropriate fields before adding to the database. It has to be done this way for sorting purposes because a straight alphabetical sort isn't always right when there is a pre-direction in the address. For example, right now if the user wanted to put in the service address 123 N Main St, they would enter it as:
Street Number = 123
Pre-direction = N
Street Name = Main
Street Type = St
I've tried to separate this address into its parts by using the Split function and iterating through each part. What I have so far is below:Public Shared Function ParseServiceAddress(ByVal Address As String) As String()
[Code]...
I've found this method to be cumbersome, slow, and even totally wrong when given a wonky address. I'm wondering if what I'm trying to do here would be a good application for a regular expression? Admittedly I've never used regex in anything before and am a total newbie in that regard.Edit - Seems more and more like I'm going to need a parser and not just regex. Does anyone know of any good address parser libraries in .NET? Writing our own is just not in the cards right now, and would be sent to the back burner if it came to that.

Design a form, which contain a TEXTBOX control that accept a UserID input, with a CommandButton control to perform a validation based on the criteria listed below. Display a Message on whether the UserID is Valid.
Criteria:
The UserID must contains SIX digits follow by a single character, limit the entry to a maximum of seven characters only.
The postfix character of the UserID is derived from the summation of all the six digits divided by seven and using the remain as followed:
Remain
Character

I have to make a basic program that: Create a program with a simple interface that
1. Asks the user type his/her email address into a textbox.
2. When the user clicks the "Evaluate Email Address" button, one of two message boxes pops up: "That is a valid email address!" with an "Information" icon, or "That is an invalid email address!" and on a second line, "Please retype your email address.", with an "Exclamation" icon
3. To be considered valid, the email address must -include an "@" symbol, and -it must end in either ".com", ".net", or ".org" or ".edu" (I don't know how to check a string and test if its last four characters end with any of these and make it say not valid email address. I think I might have to use a case statement)

i have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:
Warning: Type library exporter encountered a type that derives from a
generic class and is not marked as
[ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)]. Class interfaces cannot be
exposed for such types. Consider marking the type with
[ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)] and exposing an explicit
interface as the default interface to COM using the
ComDefaultInterface attribute.
It does not work. I have tried to call it through a class library but this does not work either as the end point is not set correctly.

I'm trying to use the DHCP API (using the references on pinvoke.net) to retrieve a computer's MAC address when given the IP address but I can't get the code to work. I've run all the C# code on pinvoke.net through the C#-to-VB converter but I'm stuck now.
Here's what I have so far. The value of res is always 5 (should be 0). Thing is, I can't find any documentation on what the return codes mean
vb
Private Sub GetMACDim client As String = "1.1.1.1" Dim server As String = "0.0.0.0" Dim si As New NativeMethods.DHCP_SEARCH_INFO si.SearchType = NativeMethods.DHCP_SEARCH_INFO_TYPE.DhcpClientIpAddress si.ClientIpAddress = Convert.ToUInt32(StringIPAddressToUint32(client)) Dim res As UInteger Dim oInfo As IntPtr

This is a bit of unusual problem that I'm experiencing, but recently one of the users of a production application started reporting errors in the system. These were traced to a 503 Service Unavailable error when making a call to a web service used by the application.
Now here's the odd part, only the one user is affected by this issue. Other users of the application have not reported any errors. When the user logged on to a different machine that worked for another user, they still received the error.

In the past I had the indexing service installed on a Windows Server 2003 and used it to index files for my website. I did this by executing an OleDbCommand with a query and a connection string.How do I accomplish the same thing with the new "Windows Search Service" (Windows Server 2008) by using VB.NET? Does this work the same way so that I only need to change the Provider name which has been "MSIDXS.1" up to now? Case true, what is the new Provider name?

I'm using Visual Studio 2010 and .NET3.5. I've created a WCF service application. I'm including two DLLs that contain the types I'm returning. The first method I wrote works both in WCF Test Client and also in a console application I created to test. When I move on to the next method that returns a generic list of a type. It works great in WCF Test Client, but when I update the service reference it acts as if the service is unavailable. All my objects say can't find reference, and I can no longer see it in the object browser. It's like it just disappears. I can still see it in the Service Reference folder. If I go back to the WCF app and comment out the contract and implementation of that one method it work again. I created a local class very similar to the class I'm using from the dll, and the it works. Is there something I'm missing here? Can someone point me in the right direction?

When you create a Windows Service, you create a list of the services you want to start. The default is this:
ServicesToRun = New System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase() {New Service}
Can you have multiple instances of the same Service class (that bind to different addresses or ports), like this?
ServicesToRun = New System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase() {New Service("Option1"), New Service("Option2")}
Or will that cause problems? Should we use two different classes instead?

how to deploy a service made in VB.net. Most of the websites just say use installutil.exe this is fine while your testing your service on your local machine whit vs2010 on it. I am in the final stage now of my service like 99% is done and my last % is how to get my service installed on the server i need it on. I can't publish because this wont work with a VB.net Service Project. So all i want is a clean and easy Tutorial or Someone who can explain me how to do this without the need to install VS2010 on the server to get install-util.
