Oct 7, 2011i want to do is start to make programs like a sreen logon changer for windows 7 i know already been done but i want to start to learn or a branding logo changer witch has been done also branding logo= windows 7 text at bottom of logon screen just want to edit some system files like that instead of doing it in resource hacker if you know wot i mean so wot i want is a bit of codeing to get me to system 32 folder and little bit of guidance on how to change a picture in a dll file via vb instead of using a resorce hacker..

Nov 27, 2011I want to make a simple screensaver but I looked at what others suggested on how to change screen resolutions and it seems a bit much. So I'm hoping their is a simple way to accomplish this task. Basicly I want the screen to fill reguarless of your screen resolution with the background image coded in the source code. I know the picture will look funny on large resultions but its a sample code Im making, so i'm not worried about streatching a image.My thought was do something to detect window bounds or something.

Jan 24, 2010I was thinking about replacing my log on screen. I don't just mean changing the background style or whatever, I mean a totally different app, which would allow users to log on and off. I'm prepared to spend a serious amount of time on this, and I just wanted to know if it is concievably possible, and if anyone's ever done it before? I want to do this because I'm sick of the Vista log on screen. This doesn't neccesarily have to be made in vb, I could de-compile the .dll files which make up the logon screen and then re compile them.

May 25, 2010I am planning on creating a service that measures the bootup time for a computer. It would go something like this:
1. Service starts and waits for CTRL+ALT+DEL screen
2. Timer starts when logon screen appears
3. User logs in and timer stops
4. Service waits for process X to start
5. Process X starts and service gets System.Environment.TickCount
6. Service subtracts step 3 ticks from tickcount
The reason for the logon screen timer is I don't want to measure if the user booted up and went for coffee or something and shows up 20 mins later to log in. Is there any way for the service to detect when the logon screen is present and when it's gone?

Aug 20, 2011I am wanting to create a logon similar to the Windows Live logon, so in other words. user has frmLogon and is located in Australia. The user enters his/her details and then the program connects to a server in the United States and checks the Username and Password to make sure it is correct if it is correct it allows the user to logon and move to the next stage, if it is wrong it will give him an error message. I am wondering if anyone has a tutorial or source code laying around that I can rip apart and see how it works. I want to put the database on my server and connect to it from my desktop using the logon form.

Oct 25, 2010In a VB.NET application that runs as a service, I am getting a value of "Nothing" returned when I use Registry.CurrentUser.OpenSubKey(). The same code executes correctly when the application runs in desktop mode. I am not much on VB.NET and unfortunately, this is not my code.

Jun 29, 2011BTW this issue occurs in any MS office program when the VB.Net (or even VBA) is processing information.Example: In Excel, a worksheet is displayed on the screen. I start either, a VB.Net or VBA procedure and within 30 seconds the Excel worksheet (previously displayed) blanks out. In both VB.Net and VBA,ScreenUpdating = False. My expectation is that the previously displayed screen would stay static as if I left my desk to get a cup of coffee; came back and the same ole Excel worksheet was still there?Of course, setting VBA Screen Updating = False accomplishes two goals: 1) speeds up processing and 2) saves the user from seeing unnecessary "garbage-processing" steps.Why does VBA or VB.Net ScreenUpdating = False not freeze the screen at the time of its invoking?

One of the requirements of the application is to allow users to restart (or atleast clear the form) so that other test cases can be ran. Because there are so many forms and variables, we elected to simply call Application.Restart() to accomplish this.
What we would like to do now is disable the Splash Screen when Application.Restart() is called. That is, only show the Splash Screen when the application is initially started, not when it is restarted.

This isn't the emails that the user has sent or received, or the contacts he/she has in his address book. Just simply the email accounts that have been accessed from the computer.I know that there are some locations stored in the registry that have the email account. Aug 27, 2008I am writing an application that connects to a specific com port. This com port can change depending on how many physical ports are on the PC, and if other USB devices have installed com ports before this one.
I have the communication to the com port all working great, but I need to get the com port description not just the "COM#" which is all I currently get.
I found in the registry where the description is stored but am having trouble doing what I need.

there is a varied number of sub keys. The are numbered 0000-NNNN depending on how many ports you have. Inside each of these keys, there are multiple values, although I am only interested in one or 2 of them.
My problem is, that I do not know how to get a list of the subkeys (the 0000-NNNN keys/folders) from the original key I posted. I have looked through a few registry tutorials, and I can view the default value in the listed key, but I could not find how to list the subkeys of the listed key.
Does anyone have any sample code they could share that shows how I can get a listing of subkeys, and then run through those subkeys checking for a specific value in one of the strings contained in the subkey?
I am using VB.net 2008 and Windows XP.

Nov 26, 2011Im currently developing a custom logging component, that we will deploy with all our applications, windows services, webapps, windows apps etc. I have a few questions of various nature. The component is a single signed dll file:
1) Which is the "safest" way to get the current directory? For example, in the config file, in the config section I have a property "logpath". The application will read this and write a log file depending in what they write:
c:myapplog (it will write a log here, create whatever folders it need) /Log (directly under the installed app directory, like c:program filesmyappLog) Log (same as above) I need something that work with both windows and web apps, for webapps it will log under the virtual directory of the aspnet app.
2) For exception handling, if nothing special is happening, like in the DAL, I get a sql server exception, is there any point in using

Feb 9, 2011i was wondering if it possible to have a condition where lets say you have a column in the datatable called amount and a textbox acting as the filter called say maxamount to set it so the rowfilter when filtering the table will sum the number in the amount column until the number in maxamount is met, then stop and only return the rows where the total sum of the amount column is equal or less than the maxamount value, so i guess if the next row takes us over the maxamount it discards this row and returns the rows previous to it. is this possible using datagridview rowfilter or should i be loooking elsewhere to achieve this?

Form Called FrmPracDetails Which Is Built Up With A List View Called LvwColProc
Aug 11, 2009I have a form called FrmPracDetails which is built up with a List view called LvwColProc. Therefore when you click a field on the LvwColProc it takes you to another form called FrmColProcessing, here you can make changes to certain fields which are also present on FrmPracDetails. What I want to do is when you make changes on FrmColProcesing and Click the Save Button (which calls the Save function)the changes appear instantly on FrmPracDetails. Please note, FrmColProcessing will always be open next to FrmPracDetails. I have tried to put this code in the Save function present in FrmCol Processing as shown below, but it doesnt Refresh FrmPracDetails form. [code]

This JCL_History object is basically a Generic.List encapsulated in a wrapper and has the following method:

In my testing I have 2 items in this JCL_History list. When I call that first line of code I posted (the one that invokes Enqueue) with I = 1 I expect the first item to be shuffled to the bottom and the second item to be shuffled to the top.
After the thread returns from Enqueue I notice that this is exactly what happens to my list, HOWEVER if I hit the "step_in" button after the execution of Enqueue I go into the Default Property's set method where Index = 1 and value = and it screws everything up, because the item that got shuffled to the end (index 1) gets overwritten by the item value shuffled to the top.
So basically the set method on the default property is getting called at what I think to be a completely ridiculous time. What gives? By the way I'm running VS2005 on XP.

But when i use SystemParametersInfo in my program to set the wallpaper so i can see how it looks on screen, the wallpaper no long change like a slideshow. How can i display an image in the background but keep the current desktop background setting unchanged so that it will stay a slideshow on the location it was set?
