I'm trying to use the bindingsource.find method to match a datarow column with a user entered text. I know that using BindingSource1.find("columnName", searchString) will work when the user enters the exact string. What I would like to know is how to find a row that is close to the string using a wildcard search... a good example I guess is:dim searchString as string = textbox1.text 'lets say the user enter "se"dim index as integer = myBindingSource.find("columnName", searchString) 'I would like to find the firs record that starts with "se"I can achieve the idea using the bindingsource.filter method but this will interfere with other parts of my application if the bindingsource is changed.
View 6 RepliesIn my application, I have a single table. Two of the fields in the table are COUNTY and CATNUM. Both are string.
I want to perform a FIND on both fields. I have no problem doing the search on CATNUM alone IF I set a FILTER first. Due to the size of the table, it takes a few seconds to set the filter. Once the filter is set, .FIND works quickly.
The customer has the option of setting a filter to work on one COUNTRY at a time. If they choose to do so, no problem.
If they don't have a filter set and they are using the entire table, then when the customer wants to search for a COUNTRY & CATNUM, I present a list of COUNTRIES in the table and a textbox for them to input the CATNUM.
Now I have the COUNRTY and CATNUM - how do I do the FIND? I already know that I can FILTER the table by COUNTRY then do the find but as I said before, it takes too long for the filter to be set (in my mind anyway!).
I have a bindingsource that is connected to a table where tho fields determine uniqueness. During a refresh I would like to return to the row that the user was on when he clicked the refresh button. BindingSource.find only supports one column in so far as i have been able to infer. So how doi do it. Altering the table is out of the question. Besides searching on multiple fields is a common event. Like for example first and lastname or perhaps company and journal number.
View 15 Repliesi am trying to locate the id of a field using the binding source, if i type the full id, it is locating it successfully no problem, but that is not what i want, i want to type 3 digits of the end of the id and be able to still locate that record. i triedusing wildcards with it "%" with no success any suggestions?

So I got this DB and I have these values
Hash | Value
abcd | "test"
efgh | "test2"
I want to search my db for the value abcd, so I wrote this Private Sub Button1_Click_2(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click MessageBox.Show(Me.Table_0BindingSource.Find("Hash", "abcd"))
End Sub
but I keep getting -1 even if there is no data that matches what I want to search.
How can I do a search using Data Sources?
I've got a databound query in my application which is querying the "Customers" table in our database.I've created this directly from the ComboBox's datasource creator in the Design view.Various bits of code created in the designer include:
Me.CustomerBindingSource.DataSource = Me.CustomerDataSet
Me.ComboBox_Customers.DataSource = Me.CustomerBindingSource
What I've done in the first stage of developing this feature is to show my users a ComboBox showing a specific subset of the customer list by applying a filter to the BindingSource.
Me.CustomerBindingSource.Filter = "someColumn = 3"
What I want to do on a second pass is to allow the users to type a specific bit of information into a textbox and check whether it appears in Me.CustomerDataSet like so:
Dim x As IEnumerable(Of CustomerDataSet.customerRow) = From cust In Me.CustomerDataSet.customer Where cust.custno.Trim = "test"
If x.Count <> 0 Then
At this point, I have a customerRow object. I want to check whether this customerRow object appears in the list presented to users in Me.ComboBox_Customers via the filtered Me.CustomerBindingSource. Me.CustomerBindingSource does not (directly) contain customerRow objects, it contains Object objects.How do I find out whether Me.CustomerBindingSource contains the customerRow object at whatever lower level?Also Once I've determined that Me.CustomerBindingSource contains the item, how do I select that entry in the ComboBox?
I want to search particular item in Binding Source for which i use BindingSource.Find() method, but it throws an exception "This operation requires an IBindingList". My binding source is bind to a .net class object.. I searched over the internet, but could not find the clear solution to achieve this task. The sample class code is given below:
Imports System.ComponentModel
Public Class Department
Private _code As Long

I'm binding a DataGridView to a BindingSource to a LINQ IEnumerable, I found that the BindingSource.Find method throws an exception because .Find isn't implemented in IEnumerable (and the BindingSource just passes the call to it's DataSource). I need to use BindingSource.Find to select/highlight a particular row in the DataGridView.
Is there a feasable way to extend my DataContext to support this behavior w/o breaking anything else? I expected to find the code out there already, but I've searched exaustively with no luck.Without it, I cannot "move" the BindingSource using .Position and that's a pretty common use of the BindingSource I think.
I am trying to see if producttextbox.text (getting ready to be entered) is duplicated in the DB. I have searched and search and typed some code but nothing is working. Code shown is so far the closest.I do get the NO MATCH message box now although it is a duplicate record. At least I know I am getting somewhere...
Public Sub ValME()
Dim dv As New DataView(FSC_DATADataSet.PERS)
dv.RowFilter.Contains(ProductTextBox.Text)

I have a DataRepeater that needs to display individual items from a List (Of T). The missing link between them is a BindingSource component.Everything works fine, i.e., the DataRepeater displays list items correctly, and I can add and delete items, even change using the TextBoxes on the DataRepeater.
The problem is that when I change the value of an item in the code, it doesn't get reflected on the DataRepeater. Only when I click a button on the form which executes this code:myBindingSource.ResetBindings(False)
I have data bound text boxes that loose the entered data in "BindingSource.EndEdit() code. This would seem to violate all forms of logic. I have provide my code below as well as a copy of the debug.print data.
Private Sub SaveToolStripButton_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles SaveToolStripButton.Click
Me.Validate()
ErrorTrap = 0

I am trying to delete data using bindingsource.removecurrent() ,but using the following code, it's just not working.
CODE:
bsmail is filtered in another form, perhaps the problem lays there? i don't know if the code to remove the current data is correct.
Im using a bindingsource to add new records to my db using bindingsource.addnew()When this is evoked, it seems to automatically increment the recordcount and then blanks out the content of every bound to that tables bindingsource. So that all fields in the new record have to be filled in manually.I would like to be able to pre-fill some of the data in the new record. for instance, when a user adds a new record, have a specific column in the new record automatically populate with the selectedvalue of a combobox.I assume this means I may have to manually code up my own addnew routine, but google has let me down on where to start.
View 3 RepliesI'm using a bindingsource to bind a dataset to a datagridview. Normally I would use a dataview to sort and filter the data, but since a bindingsource can also do this, I figured I would not need a dataview anymore. But I'm not sure how to get certain data from the filtered source. I know I can get it from the datagridview, but I'm not loading the entire dataset into the datagridview. I guess I could and then just make the columns I don't need be invisible. Or I could go ahead and use a dataview also, but that seems redundant. I was wondering if there is an equivalent to this code to get a specific item from a dataview, but pulling it from the bindingsource:
tbCode.Text = dv.Item(m_recno).Item("CodeNo")
As long as I'm not filtering the data, I can get it from the dataset, but when it's filtered, the indexes won't match.
I am using the following code to populate data in Textbox1:

View 8 Repliesi am currently working on a database project using Microsoft Access 2007 and VB Express 2008.my problem is, i want to create a searching function in one of my tables; table Coachee. I know that it is possible to search data using bindingsource.filter as i've already succeeded in doing that. The thing is, how do i actually prompt a messagebox saying that the record of the Coachee ID to be searched is not found? [code]
View 4 RepliesI am trying to get my grid to refresh automatically when the underlying data is updated in the database. Isn't this supposed to work? Or am I missing something? I created a DataTable within my DataSet. Then I created a new form and added a DataGridView (actually I'm using DevExpress' XtraGrid but am trying to get it to work with just the Microsoft controls). I use the menu in the upper left of the grid to set the grid datasource to the datatable in the project data source. This then automatically adds the dataset, BindingSource, and TableAdapter to the form.

I'm following advice to load data to a DataTable, binding to a BindingSource then a DataGridView. But some exzamples I've found use a DataAdapter, not a DataTable. [code]

I have added a handler in my code for the bindingsource currentchanged event: I have populated a datagridview. AddHandler PeopleBindingSource.CurrentChanged, AddressOf ChangeHandler then on the ChangeHandler Sub I populate an HTML report. However I don't think this is the best event to handle this. I have to datepickers on my forma as well. So say I click on a row in my dgv, that persons report loads. Then I change the start date on my datepicker,
Now i want to click on that row again to refresh the data, but since the currentchanged event doesn't fire the data won't refresh. I have to click on another row then click on the row I want to view in order for the event to fire. which event is best to do this?
I've written a very simple program that writes a tiny "config.cfg" (text) file to the computer (using StreamWriter), and a second program that is supposed to read that data back.
Unfortunately, it appears you can't save to the same folder as your program under Win7 ("Program Files (x86)" is a restricted folder.) So instead, VB automatically saves my data to the "C:Users(myname)AppDataRoaming..." folder. This is annoying, but tolerable.
PROBLEM IS: How does my second app then FIND my data file (without doing a time-wasting drive search every time the program is run?)
My code:
' Program #1:
Private Sub cmdSave_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdSave.Click
Dim FileWriter As New StreamWriter("config.cfg")

I recently switched to V.Studio 2008 and using VB. I can not find in the data toolbox the connection and data adapters. Should I do something else to make this appear so I can drag them in my form.
View 2 RepliesThere are few steps to find out the half slopes of the graph.
Step 1: Rank the data The independent variable is required to rank it from the lowest to the highest.
Step 2: Divide the data Divide the sample size into 3 roughly equal parts, which is the lowest, middle and the highest parts. If n/3 has remainder of 1, +1 into the middle part. If n/3 has remainder of 2, +1 into the lower part.
Step 3: Find the median The size of each part = n, find the ((n+1)/2)^th value for both dependent and independent variables. If the ((n+1)/2)^th is not an integer, sum up the 〖n/2〗^th value and ((n+2)/2)^th value and divide the total by 2 to make it as median. The median, m1 for independent variable in lower part indicate as XL , middle part median, m2 as XM and the highest part median m3 as XH. For the dependent variable the median is indicate as YL, middle part as YM and the highest part as YH . Figure 3.2 Example of median m1, m2 and m3
Step 4: Find the half slope Find the half slope for the lower half, b_L=(Y_M-Y_L)/(X_M-X_L ) and for the upper half, b_H=(Y_H-Y_M)/(X_H-X_M ) .
Step 5: Find the half slope ratio, b_0=b_L/b_H . If the ratio is negative, the dependent variable need to add with a constant, c in order to make the slope same direction.
Step 6: Identify transformation. Depend on the graph pattern pick one type of transformation which is nearest to the original of the variable.
Step 7: New half slope Find out the new half slope ratio, b1 by repeat step 4 and 5 with the transformed variable.
Step 8: Repeats steps Repeat step 6 and 7 with choose the transformation which is nearest to previous transformation and find the new half slope ratio, b2, b3,, bn. Repeating this step until |1-b_i |≤|1-b_j |, for i<j, i and j = 1,2,3,
Step 9: Result bi is chosen. The data transformation used in bi is the most closest to be normality.
How to make it into visual basic and let it run by the program?
where can i find data sources tab?
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to port an ASP.NET 4.0 data-driven app to a VB Express 2010 Windows Forms desktop app. The ASP.NET 4.0 app uses a SQL Server 2008 Express database and works fine. I can change/add/delete data in the db with the web app, and I can use SQL Server Management Studio to modify the database, but when I try to establish a connection to the same database with the "Add new connection" wizard in VB Express 2010, it tells me that it cannot find the SQL Server Data Provider .The SQL Server provider MUST be installed because otherwise the web app wouldn't work, right ?
