I am using the OleDbDataReader routine to examine and manipulate Access databases.I am trying to find a procedure for indicating when the end of file is reached.I am getting an error message once the end of file is reached and another record is attempted to be read.The.HasRows modifier does not work; that merely determines if the source database contains rows, not if there are any rows remaining.
View 2 RepliesI am using sockets to send message between computers. I send the messages alright. What I want is when the message "x0x" comes, the client must be closed within 5 minutes. Teh admin can cancel the request by sending message "-xx" as well. The routine that checks for incoming connections and accepts messages uses WHILE TRUE...END WHILE since it must always listen. Once I get a message, I need to fire a timer control or other that fires within 5 minutes. But the program cant leave the WHILE TRUE at all. If i exit it early, the timer fires and the program does get exit. How do I fire the timer or other routine while still the WHILE TRUE routine checks for incomin connections and messages?

Is there any Windows API Routine to read something like that?Or could you point me an URL where something is implemented?I don't want a procedure to read the file line by line and comparing them with Line Input because blank spaces, empty lines and comments starting with " // " may appear too, and I don't want to take them into account, but also I need to save changes to the file, but only to the modified section, without having to read the whole file, and re-write it completely.
Binary access can't work, because I don't know what's the size of each "section", since the number of elements into it can change.
I need something like the "ReadINI" Windows API Procedure, but allowing me to read the "[XXX]" sections headers, and also the "<XXX>" file title header.
I have a sub routine where I pull in information from a database. I want to use variables from this sub routine in another sub routine. I tried making everything public but it doesn't want to be friendly and share.

The readDB would read the database and set the variables and do whatever it needs to do. Then when they submit the form it would e-mail the form to whatever the email address was.

The idea is to have a central place to put the routine in instead to copy it into every .vb file that belongs to each .apsx code file.
I have basic text report (.txt) that is created by a custom application. My client would like it to page break at a certain spot.
Does anyone have a routine that would allow me to insert PCL code into the file so that when printed it page breaks? I'd search for certain text and then insert the codes just prior to the text.
Certainly if someone has a better "mousetrap" then let me know.
I have written a text editor for an assignment but I am struggling on where to start on this bit. What I Want To Happen:- When the user saves there work I want the name of the file to be shown next to the name of the program at the top left hand side of the form. I am not sure If I just need to create a simple sub routine for adding the name of the file then calling the method in the save as routine.
View 7 RepliesI want to write a generic file saving routine where the routine is passed data in the form of a collection and it sets a containsStructure flag. I wanted to be able to save the data from the collection, but if it is a collection of structures I want to be able to extract the data from the structure to write to the file.
The only trouble is, that I cannot do something like:

Since the compiler complains that dataStructure is not defined. Is there a way to code around this?

I am building an app to read a customers .xls file in to a array list the array is the being reordered and im writing a file out the back end.its doing several lookups in the .xls file to see if relivant data is there and it writes a different file (9 different specs) depending what is in each line/column.Sound simple and I have the app working great however when I use a customers live data I get an ex.message = "Could not decrypt file" the file opens in excel witthout any password prompts however it does look like the sheet is write protected but all im doing in my app is reading the data.

View 2 RepliesI am creating an application which uses OleDb to connect to an Excel spreadsheet and read the data into DataTable. The problem that I am having is that some of the columns I am getting are coming up blank, I've managed to narrow down that this is because that the first few lines for that column are blank. As unfortunately this is valid in the context of the Excel spreadsheet as not all dates etc. are required to be filled in. I was wondering whether anyone knows of any way that I could go about ensuring that the columns are populated by the OleDbDataReader even if the first x number of rows have that column as blank.

I have two tables say "Table1" and "Table2". I made a UNION query and saved it as "AllTimesFailure". It is worth mentioning, I am using Access DB. When I am trying to fetch the records from AllTimesFailure through oledbDataReader, it says "The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot find the input table or query 'AllTimesFailure'. Make sure it exists and that its name is spelled correctly.". I double checked query name and found correct but the problem still exists. when I run the same query as I pass through my command object, it works fine in Access query analyzer and fetches records normally.

I'm new to VB.NET. I'm trying very hard to not go screaming back to VB6...... I have a Query stored in an Access2000 database called 'build_VNMON'. (Does that make it a Stored Procedure ?) It uses multiple tables and multiple Union Statements to arrive at the desired results. It may not need to be as convoluted as it is, but I inherited it, and it works. What I really need is to output one column of the build_VNMON result to a text file, so I'm trying to use an OleDbDataReader.

I basically have an application that generates reports in a .html file, I use a .html file for the ease of making tables and formatting text.Now I would like to introduce a way of printing the reports from my program. Because I use a .html file, the formatting would not the correct if I was to print it directly from my application (as far as I know). For this reason, I would like to print it just like my web browser would have in order to keep the tabular data intact and the text formatting.

I have tried to debug this and can see that the query is correct, that the values that are being passed to the sql server are correct but it doesnt look like my code is firing off the Exceptionquery Sub. I thought to call a sub all you had to enter was the name of the sub such as this line:
Exceptionquery()
I have also verified that the mapping of the buttonclick event is mapped correctly. I have other subs that I am calling in almost the same way and those work.
I know there are several libraries of code out there that can parse CSV files according to the standard, but, for various reasons, I need one simple routine (not an entire library) that parses a CSV into a DataTable or array. Does such an animal exist or is it extinct? (Preferably C# but i can translate vb.net too)

I'm trying to get this routine to resume the downloads.I use the same routine to download a file all the way thru non-stop..so at least the download part is working..however either the stop commands i'm using or the resume routine i thought would work is all ass backwards I'm not gonna make any conclusions or anything on this one..made myself look stupid the last time i know you all are def smarter than me when it comes to this stuff,,and dangit that just erks me to no end i tried adding a exit do in the do loop..and that of course exits ok,,but when the file is resumed is larger than its supposed to be.
