Fix / Avoid / Ignore Recursive Reference Error?
Jun 2, 2011
I need two class libraries that reference each other.Why? One is compiled in C# and the other in VB.NET. It would be better if I could somehow merge the assemblies programmatically, without requiring external programs or even the extended framework.

I have been trying to use sockets in VB.NET and once I cannot understand how to avoid a null reference. [code] I have tried introducing sock as 'New Socket', but this gives me 'Overload resolution failed because no accessible New can accept this number of arguments'.I also cannot simply add '= Nothing' onto the end of my declaration since this still gives a null reference.

So I want to now if that possible for .NET languages to ignore error without using try catch construction ?
I can ignore warring with #nowarring 40 for example, can I ignore error ?
simply wanted to call system pause with this way
open System.Runtime.InteropServices
[<DllImport(@"msvcrt.dll")>]
extern void system(string str)
system "pause"
but got Error message
unbalanced stack. This is probably because the managed PInvoke signature does not match the unmanaged target signature. Make sure that the calling convention and parameters of the PInvoke signature match the target unmanaged signature.
So I don't care, it works. But can I just ignore this error ? without doing weird stuff like that :
try (system "pause") catch |_->()
Ok , I solved my problem by adding CallingConvention=CallingConvention.Cdecl, but what the question was about skipping exceptions, so and I still don't know if I can do it.
So maybe I need to tell some real reason to not be down-voted hard - sometimes it's matters for program to live even with hard errors occupations, but even sometimes you don't need to catch them. You need just ignore them...

In my form I have a variable that is of the type Windows.Forms.Form. When my program is enabled/disabled I create a new form instance in there and close it (respectively). Since I don't want the form sitting in memory the whole time my program is open the references to properties of the form are invalid (because the initial declaration is not the form but the type). How can I either negate this or ignore this error?

I am opening frmB (variable for FormB - the actual form) from frmA. From btn1 I open frmB like this:
frmB = New FormB()
frmB.Show()
From btn2 (frmB is already open) I bring frmB to the front from behind frmA:
FormB.Show()
FormB.BringToFront().
No problem so far. Now I need to pass an arg to frmB. This is where I am having the problem.
from btn1 (in frmA) I do this:
frmB = New FormB(myArg) '--pass myArg to constructor of FormB -- no problem here
frmB.Show()
then from btn2 -- this is where I have the problem
FormB.Show()
FormB.BringToFront()
I tried placing myArg in FormB.Show(myArg) but that did not fix the problem. What is the correct way to pass myArg to FormB (frmB) in this scenario? Do I need to share FormB or frmB? How do I do this? "frmB" is frmA level variable.

I have a delete button in a datagridview. The button works fine however when there is nothing to delete it throws an index out of range exception. Now I know for a fact people are going to click that button even though there is nothing the I am presuming the best course of action is going to be a try/catch but I am not sure how to do it. My code is as follows,
Private Sub DataGridView1_CellContentClick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellEventArgs) Handles DataGridView1.CellContentClick

I have a simple Entity query:
Dim rhcexists = From p In dbContracts.Signatures _
Where p.StudentID = people_code_id _
And p.ContractType = "rhc" _
Order By p.ID Descending _
Select p
I then check whether one of the result values is more recent than six months ago using an if..then like so:
If rhcexists.First.SignatureDate > Date.Today.AddMonths(-6) Then End If
However, if there are no results returned this will return an error. Is there a way for me to tell it to act as if the date is older than six months if there is no value at all? e.g., could I in pseudo do something like:
If Exists(rhcexists.First.SignatureDate, Date.Today.AddMonths(-8)) > Date.Today.AddMonths(-6) Then End If

I am trying to make a program in Visual Basic 2008 Express edition which have a textbox where the user can write information to search for in a simple database stored in the program-code.
What I would like is that when the user types a word, a string variable connected to that textbox.text will be treated as a string. BUT if the user types a number in the textbox, the textbox.text will be treated as an integer (for example a "Double")
