I am editing an application that was developed using VB .NET. The form has a button, I see it in the code but it is not visible in the Form. Also, when I place a new button, it comes as Button2 meaning there is a Button1 - I am not sure how to find where it is and place it at the right place.

I plan to use the click event of the button and I know it's easy to create a click event procedure for all of the buttons but would like to avoid that.
The group control is called GroupFilterButtons.
just wondering if it is possible to add a method to all forms in my project without having to do it on one form and Inherit all my other forms from that one

My project is a server/client application. whenever the client is connected and sends information to the server listening that information is displayed in the server but in a new panel with controls the same as the existing panel for the server, only the location and the information displayed is different. It would look something like in the 2nd attached picture.

I'm wanting to dynamically create some controls relative to controls already placed on the forum at design stage, how do I find the locations of the controls that are already placed?For example, I have a label called lblDateTime, its location is (13, 167) and its size is (65, 13).In my code, I want to place a new label below this label.I've tried to set the location and size properties of the new label using the location and size properties of lblDateTime.Size works, no problem, but the location of lblDateTime always returns as 0,0.[code]I want to set lblMessage DateTime. Location to (13, 180), but I'm actually setting it to (0, 13)What confuses me most is that Me.lblDateTime.Size is returning the correct values, so it's not like my code isn't finding the control.
View 5 RepliesI have a query about dynamically added controls to a form. I have a series of buttons which are created and added at run time. I have a two drop down lists and two buttons which are created at design time. Button 1 creates a series of buttons called "Test 1.x" based upon the selection of the two drop down lists. This works fine and am happy with the logic.However.... Button two should remove all the dynamically created buttons from the form.This does not happen. What does happen is that 50% of the buttons are removed starting with the first one. WHen checking the loop it only enters the loop half the amount of times that there are buttons. Very strange. When the loop is run repeatability it will remove all controls. Why will my logic not remove all the dynamically created controls at once? What is wrong with my logic?

I seem to be having a problem with controls that I am creating as new classes (not UserControls) inheriting from an existing system control. Everything seems ok while I create the control code, through to the compile (which is successful and adds the control to the toolbox) and dragging the control from the toolbox to the GUI surface. However, when I then debug or compile the project, I get a message such

One of the features of the application I am working for is that it needs to check if an external windows application..lets call it A, is running. If it isn't running, then start it. If it is, then leave it.My idea originally was to use the process name as a filter. But the problem is that the process for application A is javaw.exe. Application A, belongs to a toolset, which has other windows applications, which have the same process name, javaw.exe.I already know that one of windows which has a javaw.exe process has "Edit"..in its title bar. So my algorithm to filter for app A is:
1. GetAllExistingOpenWindows
2. For each window in AllExistingOpenWindows
3. if window.processname=="javaw.exe" then

Not sure what I am doing wrong here but I have 2 buttons and a rich text box. The issue is when I click the second button to add text to the rich text box and it over writes the current text that is already in the rich text box. How can I code this second button so that the text is added to the rich text box and not replacing the current text?

I would like to know how do .net developers manage a large window application with a large number of controls, such as textbox , button, groupbox? I have seen a number of people do it this way : declare the controls as an array and initialize them one by one at run time . In this way it is easy to manage those controls because they can be accessed by array index; but this solution seems to require very good understanding of control's attribute such as its location, font etc. This could be a difficult task if the project is passed on to a less experienced developer and add changes to it.How do you deal with it?
I need to create a timer that sets the time from an existing text file. The time format in the text file is 00:00:00 (hours,minutes, seconds). An excerpt from one of my text files looks like ClockSet = "00:49:05"
Also, if possible, when the timer reaches 2 minutes I would like the backcolor to flash between red and green.
I am trying to update a Vs2008 project to vs2010. In one of my projects I have two controls. The controls are not being seen by the form when I open it up in design view. They are friend controls. (No code has changed since I opened it up in vs2010.) But it was running fine in vs2008.

This time I am stucked with a JSP page which is loaded in my webbrowser control. I have checked that it has been loaded. But I am unable to locate any of the controls of that page. Even in the count of any html controls it displays me 0. The page contains two frames and there is no "iFrames". Has Javascript got do anything with this?
