Forms :: Functions Work Only If Form Is Run Directly (non-MDI)?
Dec 14, 2010
I have this weird issue:I developed an application with a sequence like this login form -> mainform (=mdi parent) --> some functionform (mdi-child)--> report form
The reportform contains a reportviewer and will display different dataset queries depending on the state of some radio buttons which are located on the previous form ('some function form'). When I run the project directly from the 'some function form' (set startup form for project) things work great. The report shows the correct data depending on choices made on the previous form.But....when I run the project all the way from login and mainform it doesn't work. Seems like the choices made on the "some function form' are not coming through to the report form.
Is there any possibility to access directly from a Windows form created in VB.net a protected Excel file? I mean, that the password for opening xls file to be stored in VB.net Windows form. I also have the same problem for a Microsoft Access protected file.
I have a Util module in my VB.NET program that has project-wide methods such as logging and property parsing. The general practice where I work seems to be to call these methods directly without prefixing them with Util. When I was new to VB, it took me a while to figure out where these methods/functions were coming from. As I use my own Util methods now, I can't help thinking that it's a lot clearer and more understandable to add Util. before each method call (you know immediately that it's user-defined but not within the current class, and where to find it), and is hardly even longer. What's the general practice when calling procedures/functions of VB modules? Should we prefix them with the module name or not?
I have a dll. Instead of referencing it, I would like to be able to import its functions directly into my application. Anyone have a code to get started?
I did a function to one of my projects to a DLL file, and when the user starts the function a icon for that function grows (to show that the function is open). When the user closes the function the icon should shrink back again. But i have some problem whit that. The problem is: when i open a other form, the icon shrinks even if i haven't closed the function. What make it strange is that i have 2 function like that, the first one is the one that is behaving like this and the second one works the same way, but the second icon do not shrink when i open a new form. The second icon only shrinks when i close that function.
Here is the code for the opening of the first function:
Private Sub MedlemskortToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MedlemskortToolStripMenuItem.Click frmm = New Medlemdskort.Form1 frmm.datap = Application.StartupPath & "\database2.mdb"
hey I have a piece of code which gives fade effect to a form at load eventBut it works only with normal forms and doesnt work for the forms which gets loaded into a mdi parent form
I am currently using double data types. The problem I am encountering is that sometimes the user will have to input a value of 0 in the required text box and this creates an error. My question is what data type will allow the user to input 0 and allow the mathematical functions to work properly. Decimals maybe?
This particular function is used to save the returned results for a ping sent across the internet. Unfortunately the code won't let me Use the streamwriter method or the fileopen method, because it says:"The process cannot access the file 'C:UsersChrisDocumentsPinging DataFilesave2.txt' because it is being used by another process."
Private Sub SaveToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles SaveToolStripMenuItem.Click FileOpen(1, "C:UsersChrisDocumentsPinging Datacount.txt", OpenMode.Input, OpenAccess.Read)
The project requires a form that has textboxes for a students name and the amount of books they have read, and a label where the points they have earned for their reading is displayed. Also a seperate form with About information and yet another seperate form for summary information.
I have a form that works on my local Machine I created into. I have Office 2007 on this machine. I created the Form with the Excel 12 Reference. I move the Entire conetence of the Project folder to my work computer. Which has Office 2003. Do I need to recreate the form with the Excel 11 reference. I could not get the form to work on work computer. IT has a com error. I am acessing the EXE for the debug folder w/in the Bin Folder.
I'm trying to create classes, functions, etc that present a preset list of options to users (in the same way that messagebox control will show the available button options). A simple example is readFile(ByVal strPath as string, ByVal strFileType as string) where the user will see a list of acceptable file types when they put the comma after strPath.
form1 has datagridview, when I click "add new", form2 appears(details view, allowing me to add new records into datagridview on form1). when I click "add new" again, form2 appears again, if I click x times, form2 will appear x times. How do I stop the add new button and all the functions on form1 from working until form2 is closed?
I have a small problem that I am sure is due mostly to my inexperience with threading. I have used simple entirely self-contained threads before, but not to a great extent. I understand the basic laws that surround them, such as how a thread cannot access another thread's member directly, and must use delegates.
i've been working with multiple forms. here's the situation.. i have 2 forms form1 and form2 every time i show the form2 from the cmd Bttn in form1 then i close and reopen it again it always prompts me with disposal error.
Okay, so I'm doing a card game and I'm trying to set that when picturebox (PictureBox1) is clicked, a random card from 13 cards will come visible. Problem is, that when i start the program and click the picturebox, the same card will always come visible. As you can see i've put a button (Button1) which will hide every card. If I press Button2, then Button1 and then the PictureBox1 it will show differend card, but the cards which come visible are always the same.
e.g i press PictureBox1 (which will make card visible), then Button1 (which will make PictureBox1 non-enabled) and then Button2 (which will hide every card and make PictureBox1 pressable). Lets say i pressed the PictureBox1 four times and i got cards: 9, 6, 7, 3, then I close the program, start it again and press PictureBox1 again 4 times and it will show the same cards (9, 6, 7, 3). How can this be done that it will not show the same cards always?
Here's my code... Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button3_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button3.Click End
I am trying to use the same form for several functions which means I have to change the properties. In order to do this, I was trying to put a select case in a module that could be recalled anywhere in the project.
As soon as I start a select case in a module, I get an error message "Error1Statement cannot appear outside of a method body." Does that require that it be in a form only and cannot be used in a module?
When I use a For loop in a For loop the Contains Statement dosen't work! Even my custom one! I even tested mine and it works 100% And neither that or the String.Contains function work inside of For Loops And, I know both of them use loops to search through a string.
My function(It will atleast search once):
Function RealContains(ByVal load As String, ByVal needle As String) As Boolean load = load.ToLower
I was referred to this forum section for VB2008 questions instead of VB6, so Ill assume this is the right place to ask this question. Yes I copy/pasted.I'm EXTREMELY new to VB2008 and I was basically making a program that is used for "password storage" that will be used only by me, I have made a simple login page that will not allow new usernames/passwords and a simple text box-listbox-add-delete page for submitting and displaying what I wish. What Im trying to do is make it so every time I open the listbox form, you are prompted with the login form. Im not sure of a proper term for this as I just downloaded VB2008 2 days ago.
I am new to .NET 4 and VS 2010. I am using VB 2010 and have made a class and need to know how i can access those functions in the class within another form. So there is a function say of XYZ in the class named classes.vb and need to get to it from form1.vb
I am trying to create a function to clear my form. The code is as follows:
Private Sub resetForm() 'Set an integer to loop through the controls Dim x As Integer
[code]....
it works when I set the type of control as textbox but when I try to do the same thing with radioButton and make it's checked proporty = to false I get checked is not a member of 'system.windows.forms.control'
I've have found answers here frequently in the past just from browsing. But now I'm completely dumbfounded.
I'm using Visual Basic 2010 Express, on Win7 32bit. My application talks to an Arduino via a virtual com port provided by a cheap Bluetooth to serial adapter. I use a text based protocol that is working fairly well. BUT one method in my code, taht seems functionally equivvalent to the other methods is locking up my whole window.
It does this whether I'm debugging or running the exe.Below are the offending method, and a simmilar one defined above it that works with no problems.
[Code]...
If I comment out the cal to write, everything works fine. Aside from me setting some state bools and playing with button titles in the first method, I can't see the difference as to why one works fine and the other hangs.
I really hope someone has some experience in the SerialPort object and VB that can shed some light on this.I've tried everything I can think of. I thought maybe it was the inline concatenation, so I dim'd a local and assigned the string to it, and passed that to Write. But I have another method that uses inline concatenation that doesn't do this.
I have an issue with my .NET application and it can only be reproduced sometimes and only on client's location, which makes it extremely difficult to resolve. In the application the forms authentication is used. There is a login page to which every anonymous user is redirected. After user enters username and password, it redirects to DefaultURL or some predefined page. The problem is that sometimes when user enters correct username and password, it doesn't login, instead it just refreshes the login page without any error messages. After several tries of inputing username and password, user is able to login to the system.
See my login page Submit_Click code below:
Dim userName As String = tbUsername.Text Dim password As String = tbPassword.Text Dim returnUrl As String = Request("returnUrl")
Is there a list or a way to get one of the lists in VB.Net to work like the ones in CDBurnerXP?I shows a small icon at the side, then has a title and a little description under that.Have designed a program around this style of list but now when i have came to .net to write it...
I'm working on a simple calculator program for work in VB.NET and I'd like it that an operation could be performed without a mouse click and instead by using the Enter key. So essentially I want the segment of the program that is usually run by button to have the ability to be run by the Enter key.I'm using VS2010.This is what I was trying to do but I suppose I'm not doing it correctly because the Enter key does not do anything when I press it.
Private Sub btnCalc_KeyDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles btnCalc.KeyDown Select Case e.KeyCode Case Keys.Enter[code]....
