Reading And Writing A Text File That Is Saved As A Resource?
Jun 17, 2010I would like to know how to write to a text file that is added to resources and then have it show the contents in a text box.But I would like to have it on a timer so every second it will refresh as I am trying to make an instant chat program.Also I would like to note that I want it to delete everything after all the users have closed the program. Is there any way to make it so the text file is empty when there is no body using the program any more?

Previously Stored ListBox - Name Of Saved File?
Apr 7, 2011I need to work with a previously stored listbox. Example: You save a file and it comes in the listbox, I can click it and I see it in all my textboxes. And if I restart the program it's still in the list. The files can be anywhere on the computer, that's why I need this method. The name that need to be in the listbox is the name of the save file.

All the information is in form1, but I got it to save it in the listbox in form2 and I can see it when I load up the form2. Im suppose to make 10 different list for it, (it says it should be in arrays, but I dont know how to do it) and I should be able to save them everytime I put a new one in, but when I put a new list in the listbox and close the application and then reopen it, its erased, how do I save it and keep it in the lstbox so it doesnt get erased?

Mar 18, 2006I have created a new icon using VB.NET and have saved it to the project directory. I then set the icon property for a form to point to my new icon file. The new icon shows up in the properties window but when the program runs, the title bar displays the default icon that you get when starting a new icon file rather than my new icon.

I so far can only get one of the values from the subkey. Jan 6, 2012I can retreive all items in my notepad but when I am adding them up in my listbox, and trying to print them in the console. I can only display two strings. I don't know why. My string is a combination of a name, space & score. ex: "luke 300". That is the pattern of all strings per line in my text file. I am separating the name and the score using space as the indicator. When ever a space is found, string before and after the space is retrieved and added to the listbox

For now, all that is inside the directory is a text file. I would like my program to read the contents of the text file and remove a set of common words, but I don't really know how to move forward here. Would it be best to create a class that holds a set of words that I would like to remove, then loop through the text file, remove any words that match those inside my class and then write what's left to a new .txt file?

May 15, 2012I�m currently working on a school project and I have encountered a problem in my code. When i write the contents of my listbox to a file called stock.txt it seems write an invisible linebreak in-between each data entry, my problem is that when I load my array on the next form those invisible linebreaks causes my array to load the data incorrectly.

Aug 19, 2009I am reading a txt file and displaying the contents into a listbox but it generates an empty listbox item at the bottom of the listbox. I am splitting the textfile each time it finds a new line in the txt file;
.Split(vbNewLine)
The problem there is always a blank line in the txt file at the end and so generates a blank list item. How can I remove this blank list item from the listbox? Is it best to try to remove the blank line from the txt file first or the empty list item from the listbox after the file has been read?

Forms Reading From A Textfile
Dec 13, 2010I'm making a personal program (So it doesn't have to look nice or be super sleek) that is basically an alarm clock. I set the time and date, it writes it to a text document then it reads it from the text document back into another textbox that is hidden and compares it to label1.text which is my system time and date.the problem is, I have it so that I can add multiple dates in one document so when I enter one it'll do as so [code]how can I make the program read 1 line, wait for it to match the label, (I already make it display a message box) and then after that is all done, go to the next line and wait for it to match. etc etc.

Now I want that presented in the listbox with the semicolon and it should be aligned per column so that the numbers, the names, the prices and the quantity are exactly aligned per column.If I read the file like this:

Then the semicolon is not presented in the listbox and I don't have any alignment per column. As the names of the woods are not equally long the prices and the quantity are not aligned directly below each other...
My questions are:
1) How to add the semicolon in the listbox as seperator of the columns
2) How to align the 4 columns in the listbox (as I have an array Item(3) )
Later on I need to be able to change the quantity (last column) from 0 to > 0 (that's why I have to use an array)

May 6, 2009I've been trying to get my head round a problem for days now, I want to read 'File.ini' line by line checking if specific text exists in the file and then display on a windows form weather particular settings are turned on or off.
So far this code works if "TargetText" exists but if it doenst I get an error on the code line: "If line.Contains("TargetText") Then".

It works if "TargetText" existin in a line in the file but if it doesnt exist I get the 'Null Reference Exception. Object reference not set to an instance of an object.' Any suggestions greatfully recieved!
