Sep 24, 2010I have a splash screen, the default from Visual studio. It loads up, is shown for a few seconds, then, when it disappears, the main form is loaded. Now here is the problem: the main form appears in the back, behind the windows explorer window I load the application from.
The weird thing is that this only happens on some computers, particularly Windows XP machines.I tried a lot of things like BringToFront() or TopMost = true in the on Load event of the form but nothing seems to change this.

Feb 6, 2009I am relatively new to C# and winforms, although I have been using Java for years, so forgive me if im asking something relatively straightforward!I have a DataGridView, it needs to update regularly so I wish to provide a Collection of objects as its DataSource and NOT a database table.So far I have a List<MyObject> which will be constantly updated via a BackgroundWorker thread. I want my DataGridView to update when a change has been made to the List i.e. if the objects are resorted, added to or deleted from etc.Currently my DataGridView only displays the first object I add to the List, if I add more the DataGridView doesn't update to display the new objects added.This is a basic overview of how im coding it:
private List<MyObject> myList= new List<MyObject>();
myDataGridView.DataSource = myList;
Then my BackgroundWorker thread updates the list, e.g.

Aug 8, 2008Is the ContextMenu control strictly to offer choices when the user right-clicks some object, or can it be used to offer choices in general?
In my situation, when a user opens a certain type of file, I want to offer a selection of specific subfiles (line ranges) within said file as choices. The presence of subfiles and their number is variable, so this would be a dynamic situation. (No subfiles: use the whole file; three subfiles: present three choices ...)Would ContextMenu be appropriate, or should I offer a list box or combo box or frame of radio buttons instead?

Feb 15, 2009I put my standard About Box and Splash Screen into a code library along with a number of other stadard things I use. The about box works fine in that I can instantiate a local version and then show.
My question is how can I select the splash screen out of the dll? The drop down box on the Properties page only shows forms in this project.
In C# I can instantiate the splash screen manually before the intialization process and then hide afterword. Is there a similar way in VB?

Mar 30, 2010I have an application with a main form, on loading the main form asks the user to select a file to work with. I have now been asked to add a splashscreen to the project so did the following:
* Right clicked in solution explorer and added the splashscreen
* Went into project properties and added the splashscreen to the dropdown for splashscreen and then clicked "View Application Events"
Within here I have added the following

Now when I run the application the splash screen shows but within, a second the openfiledialog has appeared and hides the splash screen.

Dec 28, 2011I have an application with a splash screen which gets shown before the application starts. One of the requirements of the application is to allow users to restart (or atleast clear the form) so that other test cases can be ran. Because there are so many forms and variables, we elected to simply call Application.Restart() to accomplish this.
What we would like to do now is disable the Splash Screen when Application.Restart() is called. That is, only show the Splash Screen when the application is initially started, not when it is restarted.

VS 2008 Dynamic Timer In A Dynamic Form
Feb 19, 2010Ive managed to dynamically create a form, and dynamically create a timer, but i have not been able to create the timer on the dynamic form. Specifically, i need to be able to have the timer itself create another form with a timer. (I realize that this would create a new form every interval on the timer, that is what i want to do)
1. A way to add the timer to the dynamic form, and maintain the timer sub on my main form.
2. A way to create the whole thing over (dynamic form and timer) through the previous dynamic form and timer.
I was thinking i could use a collection/array to store the forms and timers, but i'm still having trouble figuring out how to add entire forms or timers into a list. (A timer is not considered a control, so i cant use a controlcollection...)

Splash Screen will be active for several second, and then the main of application will show in full screen. Before the user use the application, user must Log in first. This works but the problem is that it loads the splash and login form twice. To worsen the situation, the second login form that appears gives access to the system even when the cancel button is clicked while the first login form just works fine.
