I need to figure out the code to to create a folder, a text file in that folder, and then to write specefied information to the textfile. Now I know the code to write to an existing textfile, however, i need to figure out how to create a folder and a text file with a title the users can make.

i did this for now, i am able but i am able to copy all the text from the note pad and put it in a textbox for now..

i am working on the MSDN tutorials through virtual labs and am encountering a problem with the very first tutorial regarding consoles. I am required to create two notepad files: Module HelloWorld & Public Class Person which I have done without errors having triple checked them. When the files are created I compile the HelloWorld.vb file and a .exe is created
I follow the rest of the steps and encounter an error when i try to compile the Person.vb file using the line vbc Person.vb/t:library/out:HelloWorldLib.dll as i am getting the following errors:
vbc : Command line error BC2001 : file 'HelloWorld.vb/t:library/out:HelloWorldLib.dll' could not be found
vbc : Command line error BC2008 : no input sources specified
If I have a large number of classes, each similar to the other in certain aspects (they all share a common base class, but each does things differently), and I need to create Windows forms for each to allow easy changing of their values through a GUI? Create one matching form for each object in VS' forms designer, Or Use code to create the forms dynamically at runtime.
#2 makes the most sense to me, because a lot of these objects will share very common features of the form, notably "Ok" and "Cancel" buttons. But one object might need to draw a textbox on the form while another might need to draw a combobox. Not to mention, if I want to put icons on the "Ok" and "Cancel" buttons, I'd have to do this for each copy of the form in designer, and that sounds like it could get out of hand quickly. But is drawing forms through code sane? VS' forms designer is pretty sophisticated and designed to make life easier. Am I wise to consider ignoring its functionality and diving into the trench warfare of forms design through code? Or are there examples of automating form creation based on an existing object's properties?

I am currently creating an application which monitors any errors that occur in the other applications I have developed.
One thing that I want to try and do is add a sort of discussion thread into the form, so this allows for each member of IT to add comments/notes about the error that occurred.
Normally I would just use a DataGridView or a ListView, but I would like to have the capability for the comments/notes to be multi-lined so that the user can see what has been written without having to scroll sideways.
I am trying to create a tuturial within my software in vb.net. The code will take the current mouse position, move it over the relevant menu header (e.g. file) and click, move to relevant item (e.g. New) and click etc.

View 1 RepliesHow to create a data forms with the data forms wizard in VB 2005
View 6 RepliesI've designed my own encryption application in VB 2008 that has a free tools section where users can choose a particular wizard to use from the drop down. The javascript wizards display the code required to put in their own sites. I already created wizards that users can well, use.I see people have their own "contact form wizards" on their websites all the time. Where users can use the wizard and get the displayed code to copy and paste on their sites. But trying to locate source codes to these things is very aggravating on the web.So what I want to do is create my own "form wizard" like out of javascript, that allows the user to put in some information then get the displayed code to put in their own websites. I'm not looking for the generator such as the online form generators. But the javascript source code(s) for the generator itself. Then I could simply put a form generator inside of my VB-app, that will allow the user to use the wizard, then get the html code to paste in their own sites. Preferably not the PHP one because the php backend is very difficult to put in a VB app.I know that it can be done. For example copying a web pages source code then putting it inside a string, then calling that string from a button click that will open the javascript page in the webbrowser inside the VB app.

View 2 Replieshow to pass value from one form into another form...? for example if i have 1 mdiform and 2 form (form1, and form2) for load form1 i'm using system.reflection.assembly here is the code for load form1 :

Private FrmNama As Form
Public Function GetForm(ByVal FormName As String) As Form

after form1 load i call form2 from form1 and from form2 i want pass value, here is the code from form2 to pass value into form1 :

I have used VB (versions 2 - 6) through many years; however, I am crash-course training myself into the VB2008 / VB2010 world kicking a screaming. I would like suggestions as to what SQL database access method should I focus more on in my learning process without making me feel that I'm a million years behind. I know I have WinForms where I can create a datasourse and drag / drop fields or tables on a form to create a grid (not really what I'm looking for).
My trouble isn't so much designing the form but in how I access the database. Theres XML, LINQ to SQL, ADO.NET, and many other methods. Not only do I need to grasp these methods quickly but I also need to know what type of projects I should create. What I mean is...I was thinking that I would design a WinForm app; however, I see that there are WPF apps and others to chose from. This is getting deep. I know it depends on the project that I'm working on. My plans are to write an app based off of either an SQL Express 2008 or SQL Server 2008 database. This first app will be standalone for now but may later become multi-user. I know I'm far behind on my learning curve coming from VB6. I have read a bit on VB2005 / 2008 / 2010. I own
both VB2008 and VB2010. I use VB2008 at work. I know ADO.NET is still alive but by what I read online, it's a dying method and is only kept for backward compatibility. XML and LINQ to SQL and other methods are all pretty new to me.
[Code] I want like to check if a file exist on main form, if not: force open settings form. And then when the user is closing the form with exit button = check if the file exist again. If it doesn't exist, close application. It's a huge application and I need optimized on most parts. Also, the settings form is asking the closing question two times.
View 1 RepliesFor a while i have been playing a guessing game with this line of code.
If Sdown = True And Shooter.Top >= Me.ClientRectangle.Height Then
Shooter.top += Shooterspeed
End If
Basically i have a shooter on the form and whenever i press the down key the shooter moves down the form and disappears off of the bottom of the form. I have been trying to get this to stop for some while.
I'm upgrading a project from VB6 to VB2008.I have a routine that clears a combo box, named 'cmbDataTable' which could be on any form. I pass the form and the combo box is cleared.
[code]...
I assumed it would be the same in VB2008 but I get the error.'cmbDataTable' is not a menber of 'System.Windows.Forms.Form'I am working my way through the project, first updating the global procedures - this is one - I haven't written the calls so cmbDataTable doesn't yet exist.
I have a program that uses two forms. The program opens to the Main form, and the user can navigate to the other form from the Main form through use of a button. Here's the way I've currently written it: When the Main form loads, it declares and instantiates the other form during the load procedure. When the user presses a button, the second form is displayed by means of the ShowDialog method. On the second form, there is a Return to Main Screen button which closes the second form, bringing the user back to the Main form.
So, here's the structure of the code:
Code:
Public Class frmMainForm
Dim frmSecondForm As New SecondForm
Private Sub btnSecondForm_Click(blah, blah, blah) Handles blah, blah, blah
[CODE]...
Here's my reasoning: Originally, I wrote the code so that a new instance of the second form was created every time the button was pressed. The problem was that whatever data was displayed on the second form, previously, was lost when the user returned to it a second time. Since the user would be switching back and forth between these forms, frequently, I needed that data to persist.
What is the best practice for accomplishing this:
1) Declare and instantiate the second form on program start, as I have done, and use the button simply to show the form?
2) Declare and instantiate the second form each time the button is pressed but maintain the variables on the Main form and pass them ByRef to a custom constructor for the second form? Is this even possible?
3) Something else?
How can I update and get values in a Windows Forms application while moving one form to other form (like cookies)?
I need to update the values to some variable and again I am going to refer stored values and need to do some calculations.
I have used cookies in ASP.NET but I am not able to find out the same concept in .NET Windows Forms (C#).
How can these issues be resolves?
In the main form the user can choose to download information from a device.Since this request takes time, when "download information" is pressed I open new form in a separate thread: Private Sub RunDownload()
[Code]...
