I am trying to create a tuturial within my software in vb.net. The code will take the current mouse position, move it over the relevant menu header (e.g. file) and click, move to relevant item (e.g. New) and click etc.

I add a button to a form each time the user clicks a menu option as:

This draws a small blue line at the bottom of the button to show it is highlighted. Just like the mouseoverbackcolor property on a button except this will draw the line. It works fine until you slide the mouse very fast between the buttons. It is as if the mouseleave event doesnt always fire.
Would it be possible to add a .exe to my resources and when the user clicks a button on the form it will create a directory ( C:My apps ).then add the .exe from my resources and launch the .exe from that folder.
View 12 RepliesI've search the net in order to create a custom control but nothing I find is worth looking at, The main thing I want to do is create a skinengin via DLL and import it in my vb 2010 then using or creating some sort of skin builder where I can create a full setting file which contains all the details of the customization regarding the Form(Look, Feel and the controls such as a menu), I have used Iriskin and multiple apps doing this for me and when a user installs my application they still recieve a message about buying the registered DLL file, I would like to create it completely from scratch.

I can't install visual basic express on computer cause i'm on shared computer and such huge install is not possible on that computer. So i picked up sharpdevelop. After searching most of the tutorial, i found out that most of tutorial written for visual studio IDE for vb and vb.net. I'm trying to learn vb.net in depth from command line to gui programs. View 11 RepliesI'm writing an MDI app in vb.net vs2010. The MDI form has the default MDIMenustrip menu with several menu items. Each has some subitems. None of the child forms have a menustrip defined. I thought it would be easy to call a public subroutine in the MDI that would disable or enable the MDIMenustrip items. If I execute the routine from the MDI form, the menu items disable/enable just fine. THe problem I have is when I call the routine from a child form. How can I control the MDI menu from a child form?

The context menu has two choices: A and B. I want to set the value of the cell to A if they pick A, and B if they pick B.I would like to pass the relevant cell as a field in the event args passed to ContextMenu's ToolStripItem.click. how to pass a custom event arg. Or if there is some easier way to do this? I can't just use the X and Y coordinates, because the context menu/mouse won't necessary by over the relevant cell.
For my program, I have a webbrowser loaded with a website which contains flash elements. I'm trying to simulate a mouse click (using coordinates) and have the user not need to have the form highlighted (I believe this means the physical position of the cursor shouldn't need be changed either). This is what I'm looking for however, paired with the ability to simulate the click while not being on that form. I believe this would require the coordinates to be relative to the form itself also. I'm not sure if this is all possible in Visual Basic, however I've seen it utilized in Actionscript and Java.

I have a combo box and use the SelectedIndexChanged event. I noticed when I assign a value to the combo box that this event fires even though the user does not click on the control. Can you tell me how to test for when the user clicks on it and actually selects a value from it?
View 19 RepliesI am new to VB.net, i did a course in it about 5 years ago, and could do simple programs, but lost most of my knowledge, because i have not used it in such a long time, now i want to do something and cant seem to get it right, i have this game that i a play online, and i have a few accounts for it, so i would like to make a account logger, wher the usernames and passwords will be saved in a text file, and then i just open the vb program, select the username and the vb program will automatically set focus to the game window (which is windowed, not full screen).
Problem is just, the game client has 4 buttons, New Account, Play Game, About and Credits, i want to get a way for the VB program to set focus to the program(bring it to front, and then move the mouse to the coordinates of the play game button, goto coordinates of the username text box, click and write the username, same for password and then move to login button coordinates and click logon, wait a sec or two and move to either character 1, 2, 3's login button and click)

how to clone the menu items and then bound it to form context menu.
On each of my form I have put an 'Exit' button. When user clicks it, another form is displayed (I don't want to use 'MessageBox') asking user whether he really wants to quit. If user clicks yes the form closes. If user clicks no, form is redisplayed.
However, out of 4 forms only one form refuses to redisplay. The code is exactly same on all forms. I have included 2 Express 2008 projects showing one form each in the zip file apps-ssk.zip
We have an application that has a main form with a map on it. Right now the paradigm is to have forms that are displayed using menu items to display information to the user. Most of these forms are modal forms, but a couple are non-modal forms that interact with the map. For some of the forms, it really would make for a better user experience if we could dock them in the main form of the app and allow the user to see both the form and the map. For instance. We could have a list of map features in a docked window, and select one of the items on the list and have the map zoom to that feature. Or do the reverse: let the users select a map item and have a docked window that shows details of the feature. Sounds great, but I wonder about what sort of gotchas we may encounter. In particular, what if we have two windows docked at the same time? Could we get tangled up in our event code?

If I have a large number of classes, each similar to the other in certain aspects (they all share a common base class, but each does things differently), and I need to create Windows forms for each to allow easy changing of their values through a GUI? Create one matching form for each object in VS' forms designer, Or Use code to create the forms dynamically at runtime.
#2 makes the most sense to me, because a lot of these objects will share very common features of the form, notably "Ok" and "Cancel" buttons. But one object might need to draw a textbox on the form while another might need to draw a combobox. Not to mention, if I want to put icons on the "Ok" and "Cancel" buttons, I'd have to do this for each copy of the form in designer, and that sounds like it could get out of hand quickly.But is drawing forms through code sane? VS' forms designer is pretty sophisticated and designed to make life easier. Am I wise to consider ignoring its functionality and diving into the trench warfare of forms design through code? Or are there examples of automating form creation based on an existing object's properties?
