View 2 RepliesI am building a simple windows form (using VB.NET) for a friend to use at work. His company has about 10 specific colors schemes (they have list of RGB values) that they use for the company logo, website etc.
I want to follow this color scheme in my application and, to simplify development, would like to build an enumeration of these colors to avoid hard coding the RBG value for every label, panel etc.
My initial thought was to do the following:

CompanyBlue = Color.FromArgB(0,111,198)
CompanyLightBlue = Color.FromArgB(0,145,201)

However, it's not that simple as a constant is required. I looked around on the internet and I found an example of how to achieve what I need but it seemed inordinately complicated for what seems like quite a common requirement for application development.
I'm wanting to develop what I perceive to be a pretty simple application. I want something that runs in the system tray that tests for the presence of a particular file on a network drive. If the file does not exist, the icon in the system tray is a green circle (like a traffic light).If the file DOES exist, then the system tray icon is a yellow circle (caution), until the user clicks it (the yellow system tray icon), and a record is written to another file, then the system tray icon changes to a red (stop) circle until that first file we tested for is gone.I'd also like to create "balloon messages" to go with the changes in the system tray icon.

View 2 RepliesI have to write an application that consists of mainly one main form, but several different things I wanna display. Pretty standard I guess. So there is a menu, some controls, and the main stuff below (ranging form graphs, tables, dropdown boxes, print preview, etc). I would like to use it like one would use frames in html, design an object that is limited to a box or panel that I define. The literature I have does not give me a clear idea of how to do this (yet). The most obvious seem to be the use of MDI, open a predefined form with no borders, maximize it before showing and remove all minimize/maximize options. But that does not work so well. The form inside the MDI parent does not fit the size that is given for it when it is loaded. e.g.

So my main question is: Is MDI the way to go here at all or are there better/easyer ways to achieve this? If MDI is the way to go, how do I sucessfully restrict a child form inside another object, without giving the user any opportunity to resize (i noticed that I have minnimize/maximize/close buttons, even if I disable them on the child forms themselves)

View 8 RepliesI've search the net in order to create a custom control but nothing I find is worth looking at, The main thing I want to do is create a skinengin via DLL and import it in my vb 2010 then using or creating some sort of skin builder where I can create a full setting file which contains all the details of the customization regarding the Form(Look, Feel and the controls such as a menu), I have used Iriskin and multiple apps doing this for me and when a user installs my application they still recieve a message about buying the registered DLL file, I would like to create it completely from scratch.

The instructions I found so far is to right-mouse click on the tool box, click 'choose items' and then select the Inkedit Control from the .NET Framework components.
View 12 RepliesIf I have a large number of classes, each similar to the other in certain aspects (they all share a common base class, but each does things differently), and I need to create Windows forms for each to allow easy changing of their values through a GUI? Create one matching form for each object in VS' forms designer, Or Use code to create the forms dynamically at runtime.
#2 makes the most sense to me, because a lot of these objects will share very common features of the form, notably "Ok" and "Cancel" buttons. But one object might need to draw a textbox on the form while another might need to draw a combobox. Not to mention, if I want to put icons on the "Ok" and "Cancel" buttons, I'd have to do this for each copy of the form in designer, and that sounds like it could get out of hand quickly.But is drawing forms through code sane? VS' forms designer is pretty sophisticated and designed to make life easier. Am I wise to consider ignoring its functionality and diving into the trench warfare of forms design through code? Or are there examples of automating form creation based on an existing object's properties?
Trying to publish a click once type app to a local directory and create a websetup with the published contents- so that i can give tat setup to install in two different servers. but as the publishing wizard takes a URL - separate setup is required for each server. Is there any way that i can create a single setup which i can use it in two servers..?
View 1 RepliesThe environment will not create a resource file for a newly created Windows Forms Application. When I add a button Visual Studio displays a dialog "File Exist". That'sall, plus an OK button. There is no file name or the file name is in unreadable characters.The dialog comes from Visual Studio because the title is "Microsoft Visual Studio".There is no resource file so it must be that the resource file cannot be created.I uninstalled and reinstalled Visual Studio 2008. It did not change anything.I believe the problem was caused by opening the same project rapidly twice on an i7 laptop. I have done this unintentionally before and I can testify that unpredictable

I am currently creating an application which monitors any errors that occur in the other applications I have developed.
One thing that I want to try and do is add a sort of discussion thread into the form, so this allows for each member of IT to add comments/notes about the error that occurred.
Normally I would just use a DataGridView or a ListView, but I would like to have the capability for the comments/notes to be multi-lined so that the user can see what has been written without having to scroll sideways.

For some reason I only see 12 forms out of the 6 forms I have in my project when the "Enable Application Framework" check box is True. When the check box is False I see all my forms, why?
View 9 Repliesi have a query of opening a new Application(eg. UgNx,Ansys)file with in a Panel (Which is already dropped on a Window Form).
For Example :-There in one Window Form and i have fixed a Panel there now with in the panel i want to open a new Application like other softwares UG NX or Ansys.
I only managed make the form always on top. But what I want is when the form is on top, user cannot access the other application in the windows.
For example : Some messagebox won't let users access the other application until the users hit the OK button.
As quick solution to the user wanting to be able to open a particular form from any other form (in a large application with many forms, not an MDI app), I added KeyPreview to each form and corresponding KeyPress event so that said form will open (ShowDialog) upon pressing F12 from all these other forms.
Since this update has been in place, the user has been getting intermittent (maybe 2 or 3 within the course of a workday) but nasty errors such as "exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation" and the dreaded "out of memory". Is there reason to believe (off the top of your head) that the KeyPreview could be causing this?
I have a button named button1 on form 1 I want it so when I click this button1 it will automatically make another form say form2 with say I dunno a textbox1 on this form2. The reason for this is because I want to make an application which will allow a user to create a form with certain things on it (what ever they choose).
