I have two functions written in VB.NET:
1) The first function (call it GetValues()) returns values in a SQL database as a list via a stored proc. One of the fields is DateTimeSubmitted. All of this data is displayed on my webpage using a repeater control. It works fine.
2) The second function (call it NiceDate()) I created to change the DateTimeSubmitted to a nice date such as "one minute ago" or "yesterday".
My problem is I have no idea which is the best part of the process to do the conversion (at point of data extraction or in pageload etc.) or in fact how to do the conversion.

In VB if you prompt the user for a number between 1-20, then a word, how do you get a text box to show the word the same number of time as the number selected using loops?... Ex: please select a number: 4 / select a word: cat....the text box should display ::: catcatcatcat ........
I am doing this for a class and my brain has locked up. Prob. just over thinking it though. Thanks in advance for any help!

The Now() function in VB.NET returns date and time which is different from the system time that I see on the right-bottom on the notification bar. It is 15 hours slower than the system time. Has anyone ever met this problem? I'm using .NET 2.0.

I heard that you have to add some code to a random number generator
results(1) = Int((5 - 1 + 1) * Rnd() + 1)
so that if it is used again and again it keeps generating new numbers as apposed to what this piece of code does by itself which is creates the same number every time.what is the code?

I am throwing some data out into Excel and am having some formatting troubles. I have 5 columns (date, time, a long number I don't want displayed in scientific notation - text is fine, text, text). I can get it all working with numberformat, however I have to do them different ways.
Date works this way cell.numberformat = "m/d/yy" and it formats it to say 3/1/11
Time works this way cell.numberformat = "h:mm AM/PM" and it formats it to say 8:07 AM
For the long number cell.numberformat = "@" and it doesn't change the format and it gets displayed in scientific notation
BUT if I use cell.style.numberformat = "@" it works as it should, but it messes up all of the date and time cells. Apparently when you use style.numberformat, it doesn't just apply to the cell you're working with. If I try using style.numberformat with the date and time formats, they don't change and are entered as if I didn't change the format at all.

If i have a variable '12'
and a variable 'hello'
how can i double the '12' each time the variable is used?
What im trying to do is have a textbox which the user writes in a number, the number they enter then determines the amount of times a variable is written in a textbox.
so if the user were to put '3' into the textbox and click go, it would print hello12hello12hello12, how can i increase the number 12?
what i want it to do is look like this when the user presses go: hello12hello24hello36

I am developing a form where I want the user to enter a complete recipe. In any recipe, I have no way to know how many different ingredients or how many steps will be involved. So if I am using a row consisting of a textbox, a combobox, and a textbox to represent 1 ingredient. how do I generate a dynamic number of these controls at run time? I have the same problem when I store the steps in creating the recipe. I need to create a dynamic number of textboxes to record each step.

if this is a dumb question. I don't ever have to write anything in VB.NET.But I am passing variables named "name" to a function and sometimes it may be 1 name or 2 names, etc. I want to check in the function if its only 1 name don't add a comma, if it's 2 names add a comma. Is there a way to get how many "names" there are?
EDIT: Added my ode to make my question a little more clear. sorry for not doing it before.

I need to ensure that the user has selected an option from the gbCalcType and cboGrade first, and then the randomize function should run when the user clicks the button named btnBeginGame. How do I do this? I have this so far that generates the random numbers when the btnBeginGame is clicked:

I created a access table with three fields, CustomerID, FirstName, LastNameI set the CustomerID field to the primary key and the type of AutonumberIn my VB app I dragged the three fields over to my form.I clicked on the plus sign at the top and it displayed -1 in the customer field, I entered a First Name and a Last Name and press the save button. I repeated the process 2 more times and the CustomerID field went from -2 to -3.I looked at my table in acces and all three records showed 1, 2 & 3 as it should. When I exited the form and then open the form again it shows record numbers 1, 2 & 3 as it should. How come it takes exiting the form and then back in to see the correct CustomerID's ?
