Get Physical Folder Site Is Running Under?
Jul 11, 2011
I am looking to get the folder that my website is running under. I have used many different methods within HttpContext.Current.Request but none of them were returning what I was looking for. I can easily get the value using substring but it doesn't look very clean and was wondering if there was a shorthand way of getting the folder.

I would like to transfer files from an FTP site to my folder on C drive. For instance, I have an FTP site 169.69.20.100. If I go thru my IE I can see the lsit of files in here. I can simply click on it and IE will ask me if I want to open it or Save it. I want to automatically download them into my folder on my HDD. can this be done thru VB.Net?

I am trying to use the filesystem watcher to monitor a folder on a ftp site for files added. Does anyone know how to do this? I have even read that the filesystem watcher was not meant for ftp's but rather local monitoring, which doesn't make sense to me.

I have a link on a VB.net aspx page that needs to open a folder in a subdirectory of a web site and provide read and write permissions so that files can be copied into and read from as well as deleted. ONLY from this folder.I have this funtionality working on a dev and demo PC but they are both on my domain. Clicking the link opens Windows Explorer and I can copy /cut & Paste, etc.The public/production PC is on the LAN, but not part of the domain. I know there are ways to allow folder read/write permissions on a public server like this but I am not too sure on the safest way to do this. The upside, the only users that need to have read/write/delete access are employees. Forms Authentication, ASP Membership directs non-employees to other pages within the site. Likewise, the membership directs employees to an admin section of the site.

I am using Skybound's GeckoWebBrowser to access some site and it works fine with http. If I use a particular https site with certificate it gives error."This Connection is Untrusted".
This site is opening through Firefox after I added a certificate provided by the site in Servers tab.
But when I use GeckoWebBrowser to access this site it gives "This Connection is untrusted" error.
What do I do ? How do I make this site trusted programmatically or how do I add certificate programmatically to GeckWebBrowser.

Ive got an app that holds a list of site we have, At each site there are a few devices. The idea is when they click on a site all the details for the site are loaded and then a second thread sits and pings each device to see if its live. Im trying to do this in a seperate thread so if they click another site while its still pinging them it doesn't wait before it switches site. This all seems to be workling fine except if you click through the sites quickly, when you do that it will eventually come up with
Quote:
{"Collection was modified; enumeration operation might not execute."}
The error flags up on the "Next" line in "ThreadedPing"
Thread stuff
Public Sub ThreadedPing(ByVal dt As DataTable)
Try
Dim dr As DataRow

I'm deploying a VB.Net app (VS 2010 Pro) that requiers the user click a command button to open IE to a financial WEB site and download informaion from the site. The app works fine in every detail when installed on the development computer. But, on the target computer when the command button is clicked an unhandled exception occurs which says: System.IO. FileNotFoundException:File Not found. My code behind the button is Shell("C:Program Files (x86)Internet Exploreriexplore.exe www,fidelity.com",AppWinStyle.NormalFocus)
This works fine on the development computer. Do I need a way to code this as a relative path? If so,can you tell me how this is done?Throughout the app I have written relative paths to needed files using paths like (Open(Environment. GEtFolderPath (Environment. SpecialFoldder.Desktop) + "File Name). They all work fine when deployed.

I'm being asked to maintain several internal-only web apps for my company. For testing, after making my changes, I've created some staging sites which make use of separate databases. As such, if my users were to mistakenly use this site as if it were the production site, they may enter important data and wonder where it "disappeared" to thinking it was the production server.
I'd like to create a big banner of some sort across the top of the staging site (which ONLY appears on the staging site) to remind my users that they are on the test site. I'd like recommendations on the best way to do this, with the following considerations:
IDE: Visual Studio 2008
Server: Windows 2003 with IIS 6
Language: VB.NET 2.0

So I wrote a VB.net project in Visual studio.I have a scheduled task that is set to run the program every morning at 10AM. If I use windows explorer and double click the application, it runs fine.If I open task scheduler, open the task properties, and browse to the application, then choose run, the program fails, due to Runtime exceptions.I know I have the path entered correctly, since I can debug the instance when it crashes from the task scheduler. VS2010 pulls up my source code. The exception is System.IO.FileNotFoundException, remember, it works fine when I double click the app. If attach a debugger to the process after it is executed from the task scheduler, I can then restart the debugger, and Voila!, The application runs fine.

I want to hook the keyboard and make some actions (in vb.net) when a specific physical key is pressed.I have found online several excellent keyboard hook dlls, but there is a problem: the hook dlls find the keycode of the pressed keys, not what physical key is pressed. So, for example, in a USA keyboard if I press the key on the left of the Right-Shif key I see the e.keycode: 191 (OemQuestion), in a italian keyboard I see the e.keycode 189 (OemMinus). This means that if I put in My.Settings the code "189", an italian user can see that has to press the key I want, an USA user see another key to press to have the same action because on it keyboard the OemMinus key is not on the left of the Right-Shift key.now the question is: how to determine univocally the keyboard keys? What do I have to put in My.Settings that determinate a specific physical key, the same for all the keyboard languages?

I'm trying to pull the total physical memory on a machine and have it show just like it would inside My Computer Properties.
I know I can use My.Computer.Info.TotalPhysicalMemory which will return it in bytes. This is where I'm getting stuck. I want to be able to divide it and then truncate it to where it would show like My Computer Properties would report it.

I'm sure this is a common problem, but I haven't been able to find it.
I have a website and I want the user to be able to print a rectangle on their printer that is 3.5 inches x 2 inches. Exactly (within reason).
EDIT: To clarify - I'm looking to print a bunch of multicolored Text within a rectangle that needs to be a specific physical size. I also need to print specific shapes around some of the letters.
I'd looked into some of the .NET Printing stuff and found examples of measuring/drawing strings and shapes; but I didn't see anything that would let me specify a specific size.
