I am trying to use the filesystem watcher to monitor a folder on a ftp site for files added. Does anyone know how to do this? I have even read that the filesystem watcher was not meant for ftp's but rather local monitoring, which doesn't make sense to me.

2 problems: first, intellisense error saying: 'fswService' is a type and cannot be used as an expression. second, I can not figure out a way to pass on to the service the path of the folder to watch (which is stored at My.Settings.userPath).

I want to be able to monitor a folder, and anytime a file is placed in it (in this case, a .jdf file) I want to edit a string within the file (it's just a text file), then save the file onto a network path and remove it from the hotfolder into a "done" folder.

View 3 RepliesI have multiple .mp3 files that I have added to the resources of my project, and the thing is, that the mediaplayer won't play .mp3 files from the resources, so I need to extract them to the filesystem in order to play them, but I can't find any way to do this. All the things I've tried have given me the error saying that I don't have access to the folders I try to extract to. And yes, I'm on the Admin account of the computer.
View 3 RepliesI am in front of a great dilemma whether to store files in Database or doing it the standard way. I would choose the second option, but my application will be used by multiple users, so I am doing it by Web Services.
On the one hand, storing in database will be very useful as every user would have access to everything very fast, not caring about file paths, locations and so on.
On the other hand, if this table consists of 1000 files, wouldn't it be a bad idea as there should be some performance loss?
At the present moment, I am using mysql as database, but I am thinking of moving to SQL Server, but I suppose this is not DB Issue.
I recently came across a problem with My.Computer.FileSystem.DeleteDirectory(). It will not delete read only files.I found out by Googling that I could delete the read only files by changing the file attributes to 'Normal'. So I wrote a recursive function, as below.

It seems to work fine, but it would be nice if My.Computer.FileSystem.DeleteDirectory() had another parameter to delete read only files, or there was an easier way to do this.

in the current project im making i've decided to add in some tools, 1 of which is a renamer based of a renamer app that already exists (called scdtoolz), i want to build my own version of it so i can learn some new things, and build a nice GUI version of it.[code]So what i have managed to determine is that the current app scans the folders contents for the CRC32 Checksum, and renames based of that, since the 456.bin's CRC32 Checksum was 2274F80B, and in the text file 2274F80B is found here 'WWF - Rage in the Cage (T-81015)(U)#2274F80B#'So now i have determined game identification is based of the CRC32 checksums, how would i go about coding a similar ap in vb.net?first i need to make the app scan a folder, but how to return crcchecksum? and then rename if check = XXXX? If MD4 sums are easier/simpler i can use those instead, im lookin at a few hash app sources now, so i think i can see how to get the md5 but not the crc32 yet, or how to rename the 2 files and folder based of the text file.

I wrote an application that copies files from Folder(A) into Folder (B) First it checks if the files exists if yes it will copy them and it will over write the them in fodler (B) and is working great , but if I have a file in Folder(B)that is located in a subfolder the file inFolder (A) will not be copied to the new location.

I created a vb.net 2008 application to windows 7 with some functions that monitor a folder within "Programs". Folder you created during installation of this application. But every time you launch the software (the exe, after installing the client package) I get UAC and I ask for confirmation. I tried to edit the manifest (with admin user) but it always comes out. I would like to depart immediately launch the EXE application, without uac.

I'm unsure if this should be in Office Automation or here, but I opted for here because I'm creating a VB.Net program to handle all of the office automation and my questions are a combination of the VB.net portion and some of the VBA formatting. At a high level I receive a file in email, put the attachment in a monitored folder, import the text file to excel, format the excel, and then email the excel file to a list of recipients. [code]Obviously the items above that are not complete are the bulk of the work, but I wanted to get some advice on what some of you think would be the best way to approach something like this. The import and formatting of the file are causing me some problems because I just can't decide what would be the most efficient way to do this. Having a template excel that contains all of the formatting already done for me and attempting to transition the data to this document (no clue if/how I can do this). Is it even feasible? Have the template already created and then import the text file to a new excel file, then transition that data to the excel template?
Something I thought about, in terms of formatting the document, was to record a macro of me doing all of the formatting that I'm going to need and then attempt to convert that macro into my vb.net code, but I'm not sure if that will work. I will need to verify that the text file comes in the EXACT format every time correct?
I am looking to get the folder that my website is running under. I have used many different methods within HttpContext.Current.Request but none of them were returning what I was looking for. I can easily get the value using substring but it doesn't look very clean and was wondering if there was a shorthand way of getting the folder.

View 2 RepliesI have a link on a VB.net aspx page that needs to open a folder in a subdirectory of a web site and provide read and write permissions so that files can be copied into and read from as well as deleted. ONLY from this folder.I have this funtionality working on a dev and demo PC but they are both on my domain. Clicking the link opens Windows Explorer and I can copy /cut & Paste, etc.The public/production PC is on the LAN, but not part of the domain. I know there are ways to allow folder read/write permissions on a public server like this but I am not too sure on the safest way to do this. The upside, the only users that need to have read/write/delete access are employees. Forms Authentication, ASP Membership directs non-employees to other pages within the site. Likewise, the membership directs employees to an admin section of the site.
