VS 2010 Folder Monitor And File Conversion

May 11, 2012

I'm unsure if this should be in Office Automation or here, but I opted for here because I'm creating a VB.Net program to handle all of the office automation and my questions are a combination of the VB.net portion and some of the VBA formatting. At a high level I receive a file in email, put the attachment in a monitored folder, import the text file to excel, format the excel, and then email the excel file to a list of recipients. [code]Obviously the items above that are not complete are the bulk of the work, but I wanted to get some advice on what some of you think would be the best way to approach something like this. The import and formatting of the file are causing me some problems because I just can't decide what would be the most efficient way to do this. Having a template excel that contains all of the formatting already done for me and attempting to transition the data to this document (no clue if/how I can do this). Is it even feasible? Have the template already created and then import the text file to a new excel file, then transition that data to the excel template?

Something I thought about, in terms of formatting the document, was to record a macro of me doing all of the formatting that I'm going to need and then attempt to convert that macro into my vb.net code, but I'm not sure if that will work. I will need to verify that the text file comes in the EXACT format every time correct?

Accessing A XML File In VS 2008?

Feb 11, 2010

I Am a new developer in VS 2008. I am writing a small program that reads an XML file. Here is a snipet of code.

filename =
"XMLPolicyList.xml"
Dim DR As XmlTextReader = Nothing

[code]....

My understaning is that the system looks for the file in the bin/debug folder, so that is where I put it. But when executing this program. I always get a FileNotFoundException. The file name displayed is (filename). If I hard code the entire directory name and file name I get the same error and the file name is displayed with the same slash in front of it. For instance I put the file on the C drive and the error displayed C:(filename).I don't have the problem in older versions of Visual Studio. The same program runs fine in VS 2003. I'm thinking that there must be some sort of setting within VS 2008, but I have been unable to find it.

VS 2008 Accessing Layers In A Psd File?

Sep 11, 2009

I was wondering if there is any way to manipulate layers of a psd from within a VB program. I would Ideally like to inserts just the psd file in and then once a command is clicked turn one of the layers on or off.

I know I can accomplish this inserting a jpg/gif for each layer and have that image be turned on or off by a button click, but I figured using the psd would save room and if something needs to be aligned differently I can just make a change in photoshop. Opposed to trying to realign the coordinates in VB

VS 2008 Copy File To Network Share With Username/pass Passed In The Code

Aug 4, 2010

I've been looking at accessing shared folders, read and write, via the network without being prompted by the OS for the username and password.

On this forum, and googling, I can find many things about accessing network shares, but none using code which also passes the username and password required.

What I'm basically looking for is to not have to map a drive on the users computer. Then using code, write or read files from a network share and at the same time pass the username / password required for that network share.

Creating And Accessing An Environment Folder?

Jun 6, 2011

I have written a data analysis program and I want to keep a list of recently accessed data files. I have kept this list in a text file in the same directory as my .ese file which is installed in a subfolder in my programs folder. But in Windows 7, it is not possible to write to files in the programs folder without assigning privileges to that folder which I found confusing to do. I would rather not subject clients to this process. It seems like a good place might be in one of the user folders. But I have no idea of how to go about establishing a path to such a folder in code. I thought it might be possible to identify an environment path such as %userapps% or some such thing that would work in both Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. I would also like to generate a .log file in the same directory to aid in debugging.

VS 2008 - Accessing File Path Without Knowing Full Name

Jul 16, 2010

I need to access a file path, but a part of the path is different on each PC. Mozilla creates a random profile name for each PC it is installed on. I can get most of the path through environment variables. I need to access the files inside of the default profile, but can't since I'm not sure how to access it.

Here's an example of the file path:
'C:Users\%USERPROFILE%AppDataRoamingMozillaFirefoxProfilesxxxxxxxx.default'
The only thing that stays the same with the profile name, is the '.default' part.

VS 2008 Each File Moved Into Corresponding Folder

Aug 5, 2009

Basically what I want to do is create a program with a simple interface where you select one or more directories, and it'll look for files that are in the directory that aren't currently in a folder, and make a folder to house the file in, with the same name as the file. But if they're already in a folder, I want the program to ignore them.Videos folder, there's 3 videos that aren't currently in a folder, 1 that is.Video A, Video B, and Video C.I want 3 folders to be created, and I want each file moved into the corresponding folder.I want the Video D folder/file ignored.I know how to do this in DOS but I'm having trouble translating it to VB.In DOS you would navigate to the directory and enter:FOR %i IN (*.*) DO (IF NOT EXIST "%~ni" MD "%~ni") & (MOVE "%i" "%~ni").I have no clue as to where to start.
