Oct 6, 2010

I'm trying to create a form that accepts names (or any strings) as input and stores them in a object. See attached form sample.Form Image:

Operations: ï Initially the NumericUpDown object on the form should be disabled.The user enters a value (string) in the textbox and clicks the Add button or presses the Enter key to activate that button.The application then stores that name in a List object, and displays the last entry in the Label underneath.The NumericUpDown should become enable after the first entry. The user should be able to move between all the values entered using NumericUpDown.

List Of T Find Date Or Other Property In A Object In The List - Then Return Found Object?

Sep 3, 2009

After reading all the examples for list of T exists and Find and find first, none show how to handle multi-property objects. Below is bare bones example maybe someone could flesh out to show how this should be done.

Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Dim DatePriceList As New List(Of DateAndPrice)
DatePriceList.Add(New DateAndPrice(Date.Parse("1/1/2000"), 10.12))
DatePriceList.Add(New DateAndPrice(Date.Parse("1/2/2000"), 11.12))

VB Code Case Statement - Added A List Box With A List Of Names

Jan 13, 2011

I am used to C like languages such as C#. I added a list box with a list of names. In the code behind I added the below code. When I run the code I am getting the MessageBox but it will state "UserName favorite color is " but does not show the color. I thought it might be misspelled or non-matching names but this is not the issue due to the names being correct.

Public Class Form1

Private Sub lstData_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles lstData.SelectedIndexChanged

Display A List (Of Object) Which Has Single Objects And Child List (Of Object)?

Sep 6, 2011

Limited to using v2.0 of .Net framework (we use VB.net) due to environmental constraints on our servers.I've got an ASP.net webpage which pulls data from a webservice that performs checks on user accounts in active directory. Operators can check multiple accounts at one time using the web interface. The webservice returns a list(of AccountCheck) objects which themselves contain single properties like username, email address, and List(of AccountError) objects which contain multiple properties.[code]What I want to do is using some kind of repeater, create multiple panels or divs which contain labels showing the username, email etc, and a gridview which has the accounterror list bound to it to show all the errors. The users could be checking 2, 5, 7 accounts at once, and is dynamic.

How To Quickly Transform A List(Of Object) Into A List(Of "Object.field")

May 29, 2012

Suppose I have a list of Cat.

Public Class Cat
Public Property id As Guid
Public Property name As String
Public Property race As catRace
End Class

How can I quickly transform this List(Of Cat) into a List(Of Guid) using the id property?

I could do :

Dim newList As List(Of Guid)
For each item in catList
newList.Add(item.id)
Next

But I think there must be a way to do this faster (1 LOC). I just can't find how.

Construct Object Names At Runtime?

Jul 15, 2011

Is it possible to construct the name of an object (in this case, a Panel control) at runtime?

What I want to do is change the Backcolor of one Panel that is a member of about fifty panels. I can get the string of the name from the Sender in a RadioButton CheckedChanged event. So what I want to do is something like:

PanelName = sender.parent.name & ".BackColor"
PanelName = Color.Red

(I realize that the syntax above is invalid. I'm just using it to try to get the idea across.)

I can do what I need with big, fifty-element Select Case blocks, but the code is so repetitive that I was hoping there was a more elegant way.

VS 2008 Field Names Of A SqlDataReader Object?

Mar 2, 2010

I want to write a routine that loads a table (or query) and outputs it to a text file, with the field names in the first row.If I load the data via an adaptor class into a datatable, I can access the field names by something like DataTab.Columns(i).ColumnName.

As I only want to read the data from the table, using SqlDataReader would be more efficient. But how can I then find what the header or column names are? The following code fails with a message that the SqlDataReader class does not have a member called 'Columns ':

Dim sqlCmd As SqlClient.SqlCommand = New SqlCommand(SQL, Connection)
Connection.Open()
Dim Reader As SqlClient.SqlDataReader = sqlCmd.ExecuteReader()
Dim FName0 As String = Reader.Columns(0).ColumnName() '<==FAILS
Is there a way to find the column names of an SqlDataReader object?

Compare List To File Names?

Jan 12, 2011

So in my Textbox I have a list of (folder) names, such as:

Folder1
Folder2
Folder3

I want to compare THAT list to another folder somewhere in someones documents (no specific folder). So let's say we compare it to the 'Arts' folder, which contain these folders inside:

Folder1
Folder2

I want to put all of those folder names in the Art folder into a list. And then I want to compare the folder names in my Textbox to the folder names in the Arts folder, and Folder3 is missing in the Art folder, so I want the textbox to contain:

Folder3

...to tell you that you are missing Folder 3 in your Art folder.

Get List Of Process Names Running?

Jun 15, 2012

I am trying to find out if an instance of an application (not vb.net) is already running - because I will want to start it but I don't want to start it if it is already running. I have found a solution to check if a process is running:

Dim proc As Integer = Process.GetProcessesByName(ProcessName).GetUpperBound(0) + 1

and return True if >=1 (or just the process number). My problem is, this is a third-party application, and its process name is not just a name but it contains a version number (which I may not know at run time), and it also seems to add a *32 (so probably a *64 if it is installed in x64 ?).

I need to get a list of running processes, by name, and test if "processname" is a substring of the name.
But I haven't been successful in getting a list of names, only process id's.

How To Get Clean List Of All Column Names From MDB

Jun 16, 2011

I have a table in a Access Database that I'm loading into a VB.NET program and I want a way to get the name of each of the columns into a list of Strings. Googling has shown that this is much easier with a SQL database, but that doing so in Access is much more difficult. I came across this question Is there a query that will return all of the column names in a Microsoft Access table? Which gives a way to do it, but when I try the code it just populates my list with a bunch of "System.Collections.Generic.List'1[System.String]"

This is my adapted code.
Public Function GetColumns(ByRef database As String, ByRef table_name As String, ByRef columns As List(Of String)) As Integer
Dim com As OleDbConnection
Try
com = New OleDbConnection(database)
com.Open()
[Code] .....
My for each loop isn't printing the right string. Should be Console.WriteLine(holding)

Search List Of Names And Dates?

Feb 2, 2012

I have a list of File_Name, File_Date.

I need to check this list sometimes against a file name and sometimes against both a filename and a file date.

I've been doing a for each loop and checking each value, I've tried a hash table keyed on file_name which is much faster, however I also need to check to see if the file_name and File_Date combination exist.

Is it possible to have a list that I can do a quick search on using either the filename or both the filename and filedate.
